Tricky one KJ, if he's been doing it 5/6 times in a row then you probably are ahead of the range but without seeing any of these hands I wouldn't be happy calling, if it was like A10 I'd be more happy calling as I beat loads of random Ax's but KJ is behind to all them even if only 40-60. Also if he is doing it a lot surely you'll find a better spot eventually ? (of course hoping no one else takes him out) Posted by Dudeskin8
Came so close to my £160 NL8 target, when i say close i was 50p away and 5 outs to dodge with 2 cards to come. From that point on the session just seemed horrible and crewl, although i may have had a small amount of tilt in my desisions.

Lost a full tenner as of part of that KK hand onwards. Demoralized a little and the longer what seemed like a drought went on for the harder i was finding playing. The fact it was only 50p and 5 cards to dodge really hit me hard. I tried to plug on bt just couldnt regain momentum. Taking a break for now but will be playing later depending.
c4p should get you above £160 - crack on !!! Tell me when your having a go at NL8 and I'll give it a bash with you ) Posted by rancid
i only got a freeroll for last month. Due to illness, Dub;in and Gow3 i never got over 400 points. Good news is adding 2 more tables and an extra session per day and playing every day im already at 450. My highest ever weekly amount .
Nice stuff Don, keep it up mate, only a session or two away now . EDIT : Wicked !!! Posted by Dudeskin8
No had a brilliant start tbh but mostly note building and the hands ive lost i cant really do much about, the big one that hurt was AA v 99 but Q9x flop looked prety safe. whoops lol.
In reply to dudeskin, i wont change the title till im 100% sure on staying at N8. The first session was pretty cagey. I decided to start at NL4 with my £149 aiming for £160. The plan was get to £160 stand and go to NL8. Although about 45 mins into my session i done a mis-calculation. I thought id hit £160 instead id hit £157 anyways i decided instead of trying to get back onto tables for one buy in just move on up.
Im going to post slightly more hands than normal although £1.50+ win/losses for NL8 (i may change this as it seems easy to get £1 pots)
Im also going to show a few NL4 hands here.

I think overall im about 20p down for my first NL8 session. It didnt feel like a smooth ride at the time. Although i think alot of that was being bored playing just four tables again. I was really enjoying 6, and i spoke to a fellow player about playing NL4 along side NL8 but he said that wasnt the best of ideas as it may create false results and i could think im doing better than i actually am.
I think you should stay at nl8 now for good or until you drop back down to £120. This way ur giving urself a good shot at it and hopefully you will do well.

the plan was 4 buy ins so thats £128 i think but really want to take a proper go.
I'm finding this a fascinating read Don and I'm delighted you're slowly building it.
To read the likes of you, Dudeskin and Lambert working their way through this level intrigues me. The three of you think on so many levels above the norm at this level it's unreal. So am glad that you all are slowly building the roll. I sincerely hope you all progress and I have to say I'd be hugely surprised if you all don't.
This is the very thread that will eventually inspire me to tackle the true level of the game : cash.
You seem to hit worse bad beats than most Donaldo? Maybe it's a Scottish thing? lol
But you're progressing and as long as you keep your cool I think you're more than capable of going through the levels.
One bit of advice though : Accept the bad sessions. I've read LOL_RAISE talking of having similar. He accepts it and knows he'll win eventually. Learn from that my friend.
Other than that you NL4 boys are an inspiration. Best of to you all.
with regards to moving up. if the tables don't look good then look for a nl4 table. or if only a couple are running at nl8 and loads nl4 then have a couple at each going. theres nothing wrong in having a mix of limits going at the same time.

Yeah this is exactly how I tackled that tricky period between £160 - £200, usually never going to be enough NL8 tables to 5-6 table so filling in with NL4 is a fine idea .
Overall though Don great work and just run like God for a few sessions and you should never have to worry about beating NL4 again.

I was planning on trying to stay at NL8 till i got to £250. This is just to add few extra buy ins as cash will start to get trickier i expect going up towards the double figure limits. Although i am open to advice on this.
Scotty im glad you said that as tbh i felt i wanted to have 6 tables during my first NL8 session and could only have 4 (mostly shortys too) and i was getting pretty bored, ended up playing the ps3 while grinding which meant i was missing out on some information. Which may have been vital.
This session started with a pretty speculative hand im still not sure on. Ive posted it in the clinic for further anaysis and opinions, as tbh it was one of those moments i wish i had a timebank and secondly even looking back im not 100% sure on the +Ev play. However that said i went on to have a good session. The first half hour was a grind but the rest was pretty much a doddle. Really starting to enjoy cash poker the way i do with mtts and thats just a big pro for me now.
Ive decided to go for £3 W/L pots as £1.50 seems to show loads. Although i havent looked at losing hands yet it was a good 2 pages of winning hands over £1.50

Only one losing hand over £1.50 so ive decided to include this. Looking back i feel a little silly. but given the play i was fairly sure 7s where good. Made a note and moved on but comments would still be welcomed.

I think i have re-assured my desision to go to £250 before moving on up. Im less than 2 buy ins from the £200 recommended and ive only played 2 sessions. I really dont think thats enough game time at all to fully say im beating NL8. Im also making a few small adaptments within my cash game to cope with moving on up. Many have said that ill need to widen my range a little for NL10 and i started to add in high suited cons into my range for NL8. I think that will allow moving into NL10 much easier. Im also changing the way i play "pretty" hands in the blinds. A huge leak i had at NL4 was say 4 limpers and KQ. Im trying to plug that leak as i think as i develop that will really start to hurt me. Although i do expect less limping as i move on up, i still expect ill see it.
7th Oct Afternoon session This session started with a pretty speculative hand im still not sure on. Although i havent looked at losing hands yet it was a good 2 pages of winning hands over £1.50 Player Action Cards Amount Pot Balance TheCats86 Small blind £0.04 £0.04 £23.96 newtpots Big blind £0.08 £0.12 £3.87 Your hole cards K K JK79 Fold dgw69 Fold MavsDad Fold The_Don90 Raise £0.32 £0.44 £10.68 TheCats86 Call £0.28 £0.72 £23.68 newtpots Fold Flop J 7 9 TheCats86 Check The_Don90 Bet £0.54 £1.26 £10.14 TheCats86 Call £0.54 £1.80 £23.14 Turn 3 TheCats86 Check The_Don90 Bet £1.35 £3.15 £8.79 TheCats86 Call £1.35 £4.50 £21.79 River 5 TheCats86 Check The_Don90 Bet £3.38 £7.88 £5.41 TheCats86 Call £3.38 £11.26 £18.41 The_Don90 Show K K TheCats86 Muck 7 A The_Don90 Win Pair of Kings £10.41 £15.82 I want opinions on my bet size on the turn here. You will still see this a lot imo.
I think £250 before you move up is good plan, esp as you only been on nl8 for two days. Keep it up!
I had a go at NL8 when i hit $160 the first time and got coolered a few times in my first few sessions and dropped down again. Decided to get to $200 before trying again, just to give me a bit more of a cushion. I got coolered a few times since but they havent really hurt my BR and i am now healthily above $230 and taking the odd session at 10NL. I find NL10 easier to tell the truth. Maybe i have just hit a bit of run good.
As for playing NL4 with NL8 at the same time, its fine. I did/do it still on occasion now even. I only 4 table max and i find having 2xNL8 tables at the top and 2xNL4 tables at the bottom seems to seperate the two enough.
I am always a bit wary of how much of my BR is in play at one time. One bad session when your heads not on right can cost you if you have too much on the tables at once.

Drsharp i get what u mean lol. Ive just watched a nick weatherall seminar about tilt and other forms of mental psycoloy in poker as i really look to develop this part of my game. Most of it i knew but there was a little extra which has been great info so workking a lil at a time.

Afternoon session
Mixed session today.
winning hands
speculative call on river, but i had notes he was a fish
losing hands
played this terrible
closing balance: £151.01
KK - fine
J10 - fine to raise but I think 3x is fine here especially against shortstack where you have to fold if he shoves pre. Why no cbet on flop with draw ?
10's - Pre and flop fine, river sigh fold as most draws come in and dirty ace is out.
I QUIT
KK looks like tilt.
Night session attempt 2
Return to form. No losing hands over £1
Closing BR: £150.97
Afternoon session.
Came so close to my £160 NL8 target, when i say close i was 50p away and 5 outs to dodge with 2 cards to come. From that point on the session just seemed horrible and crewl, although i may have had a small amount of tilt in my desisions.
Closing BR: £149.58
Lost a full tenner as of part of that KK hand onwards. Demoralized a little and the longer what seemed like a drought went on for the harder i was finding playing. The fact it was only 50p and 5 cards to dodge really hit me hard. I tried to plug on bt just couldnt regain momentum. Taking a break for now but will be playing later depending.
EDIT : Wicked !!!
6th Oct
Night session, and NL8 intro
Whats ur thoughts?
Overall though Don great work and just run like God for a few sessions and you should never have to worry about beating NL4 again.
Scotty im glad you said that as tbh i felt i wanted to have 6 tables during my first NL8 session and could only have 4 (mostly shortys too) and i was getting pretty bored, ended up playing the ps3 while grinding which meant i was missing out on some information. Which may have been vital.
Ill defo look at having NL4 along side now. ty.
