Devise a show...

edited August 2013 in Poker Chat
Imagine you are Sky Bruce. You've got the power to make TV shows for Sky Poker. They obviously tend to be about poker, but aside from that the world is your oyster.

What kind of show would you bring to Channel 861?
Who would you invite onto the show?
And - the million dollar* question - what would you name it?

* - obviously this is the million pound question: we play in pounds, not dollars.

Best three pitches win a seat into tomorrow night's £4,000 Rebuy Open. Entries close at 9am Wednesday. Go!

    Hi Dave

And I would call it SKY POKER

I would not change a thing

I would like more programs you can learn things from and peoples thoughts throughout a game not just on specific hands, so for that reason:

    "playing the field"

Basically have a well know player play an hour. or whatever, playing a format of the game (can be their specialist of favourite area) but have it in real time and get the person to talk about all their plays, thoughts on other players, notes they take, reasons for raises folds etc everything really. Prob need them to play two tables at the same time to avoid any long periods of little action. Even in the periods they're out of the hands would interest me i.e. what they make of the other players play etc. But basically not just a highlight reel of the most action packed hands I want to see it all lol

Could do set of programs "playing the field: SNG", "playing the field: cash", "playing the field: MTT"

Obviously famous poker players doing it would be a bonus!

    My show:

Invite in two sky poker regs each week - people who are not on team sky or on the payroll.  Get one to play the main and mini event on a laptop on the side - can switch camera's when you want to speak to him.  Get the other to assess his general play.  I think it would be quite funny as both are in the same room - it'd create a bit of banter whilst also giving the player an opportunity to explain his actions and create debate about the hands.  Usually on sky you only see a hand and have no reads on history etc.  This would allow new people watching to get to grips with why certain hands can be played in certain ways.  It'd also allow people to come into the show and experience Sky Poker live and be on TV!  You could even create a small tournament for people to qualify for this.

And I think itd be called something like.... 'Suited connectors' - get them to wear suits :)

    Presenters v Analysts challenge night.

5 a-side sat in the studio all playing the Main & Mini on lap tops. All obviously kept apart with screens/walls.

Have two separate anchor men/women (maybe guests) to over see proceedings and interview them, while playing, about poker/life stuff.

Show key hands from all whilst also taking questions from viewers to be asked.

Run a forum comp to see who they think will win between the teams/best individual perfomer overall.

A £500 charity donation to be chosen by the winning team, to be paid by the losing team.

Captains to be chosen for each team and team strips to be worn on the night.

Definitely love the idea of an analyst playing on a comp in the room with the ability to go over and speak to them regarding specific plays and hands. However as they could donk out early they could then move to 3/4 master cash tables and continue there until midnight.

What I would say is 2 analysts play The primo and mini say.
(forum comp on last longer of the two in both tourneys)

Analyse their hands and get them to go through their own thought processes. Get them to talk about others games at the table. (I know this wont be too beneficial for the 2 players playing as they may give things away but only has to be done every now and then with different analysts!)

I think you should call it "The Jackpot Head2Head!" If they go out they can just go onto mastercash tables. You will also need a presenter and a further couch sitter to present the show!

I think this would be great to get the presenters/analysts back on the site I miss the days I could play Hartigan at Omaha or run in to Tikay and orford in the DTD's and mains! This is what made me play on this site the chance to play with these great characters and poker players! Be nice to get that back!

    - Live phone call players playing the main event that night.

    - Guests off the forum. Playing in the studio/analysing hands.

    - Bring back Ed ;)

    - Presenter v presenter/analyst hands as suggested above, (the 2 that r on that show)

     - Intense hour of advanced strategy, similar to what you'll find on the various training sites. Not necessarily involving many hand histories. Stuff we have to pay for elsewhere, you can give us for free :D

This is the main one really, but also the least likely to get implemented. understandably.

You sign up to a training site and theres hours and hours worth of material that isn't ever touched upon on skypoker TV. It's obvious why, but I'ts my show. I'm devising it, that's what I want! :D

Though the last i heard you are unable to show omaha hands on the show. I still think it would be a good idea to run a series of shows bringing people up to speed on this variety of poker.

Format would be simple. Hour long show firstly starting with the basics and then going more in depth. Before finally branching out into PLO8.

With no screen shots available it would have to be done with real cards on a table with a camera facing down to show the cards and board. Firstly it could be done with random cards to discuss the basics and then with preloaded decks to set up scenarios to follow through.

As far as guests are concerned early on wouldnt be necessary. Someone like Tikay could handle it very easily and his knowledge would be more than enough to get people to learn the game. As more in depth plays are discussed then a guest could be brought in hopefully with a differing style to tikays to give options and alternatives.

The edict of the shows on the channel are to educate and i think this would sit rather nicely in the current line up. 1 Hour a week for a set run would make a pleasant and diverting change to the shows currently running.

And as to the name. 4 Cards to rule them all.

luke schwartz back on the show please make him play the primo in the studio or something for the crack., maybe even invite the dave " the devilfish " ulliott on cos hes a funny guy, i can rip into him about his dodgy horse tips too.

liv borree analysing in her underwear maybe.

on a serious note though id like to see mattbates analysing the primo or something, i dont wanna lick his ring piece cos he gets enough of that on this forum but hes a brilliant player so that would be my choice.

Hey there, I'd love to see you guys doing a show on omaha. Maybe there is a reason why you dont already do this, I think I heard something about software issue for 4 cards?. I know you ran some incentives and extra tourneys for omaha which is great and I think the next step would be an hour or two slot on tv. Whether it is cash games, dym or tournaments anything would be cool.

Regarding who you would invite yeh I would agree with the previous posts. I think someone like Tikay and others that have played in the wsop in omaha events, mixed with top regulars and team sky players. Im a big fan of Ryan Spittles I think he is an excellent analyst and Jen (sorry forget her surname).

    The name? Omaheaven!

Big fan of omaha and would love if omaha in some form could be introduced.

    Thanks
    Ger

I would like to see two teams playing the main and mini in the studio.  Each of the individuals has  a £50 bounty on their heads and they would then really be hunted. The teams would be anaylst and presenters against some sky regulars.  Hands would be anaylsed.  They would all then be moved to different tables everyblind level to give everyone a chance. Now what would I call it.

I'd have a series of Analyst vs Presenter HU sit and go's, best of 3. Easy to film, as you have them there, you can show the best bits, analyse the play and help people to better understand HU play, as it is an art. You could have a knockout system and crown the winner. It would generate interest on the forum and the TV and I'm sure a lot of mirth, you could have Rich analysing Tikay's play for example or boasting "how he took it down" etc.
  • edited August 2013

Invite Davina McCall in as a Guest presenter.  Tikay is allowed to sit next to her, jabbing her forehead with his finger each time she annoys him.

    Name of Show?

    Poker Face

I would have 3 satellites with the top 2 advancing from each into a final table.

    • 1st satellite would be for professional players only
    • 2nd satellite would be for Sky Poker staff (presenters, analysts, producers etc.)
    • 3rd satellite for regular players

So final table would have 2 pros, 2 Sky Poker staff and 2 regular players.

HEADS UP LEAGUE WITH SKY POKER PRESENTERS AND ANALYSTS. ALL PLAY EACH OTHER ONCE OR TWICE 2PTS FOR A WIN £15-£20 BUY IN AND SKYPOKER MATCHES ALL MONIES.WHOEVER HAS MOST PTS AT THE END OF THE TOURNEY A PLAYOFF IF NEEDED THE MONEY GOES TO THE WINNERS CHOSEN CHARITY..COULD CALL IT SKY POKER CHARITY NIGHT
  • edited August 2013
I would invite a pro poker player to the studio (counts richard orford out then lol), and have them play the main event of that night, while they are playing you can analyze the play of that table and others of said mtt.

If the poker pro busts, he/she then can analyze other tables of said mtt with the presenter's of that night.

i would call it PLAY THE PRO.

But love idea of having pros play while show is on (it was great before, and would be great to see again)

Any show that actually concentrates on the poker, not Horse Racing, Football, Golf, Tennis or any other sport.

I mentioned this on a thread about the sky poker cash game.

It would be brilliant to involve  sky poker players in a some shows, or a series of shows, for 3 reasons:

    1) It would show that everyone can get involved at Sky poker, your normal person. Really a USP for Sky

    2) It would make for great TV, everyone wants to root for the "underdog", also it would be interesting to see how a regular player would  get on versus "pros".

    3) It would give someone a shot at a higher level of game.

My format, sky stakes someone from the site (regular sky player) £1000 to play in the Cash game. Really build this up on the TV channell get a good buzz going about it, would be massive boon for the site.

The person selected would be a winning player at lower levels, so would have a very decent shot.

It could run like the loose cannon where player has 2 play x amount of hands, and after that time they can walk away with any profit.

Just a tweak to Cash game Format, that would be a big boost to the site. Play the Pro

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Also love dohhhhhhs idea of including more high level content on the show, for even a hour every week/ couple of weeks.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Another great idea would be to introduce master cash 2p/4p cash tables.

Play from these tables could form the basis of a 1 hour session reaching out to new players, micro stakes players saying listen it's not all about the big cash games, this is the level where most people play on the site.

Contributors could be encouraged to write in with questions/ hand histories who otherwise might think it's not for them. This could be done along the lines of improve your play, get involved in the site like the other players playing right now. Where else would you see micro stakes getting publicised?

    Title, Cash My Play

    CALL OR NO CALL.

10 hands in a hour long show. Cards all covered except the hero making the decision's cards. Guest or resident analyst has to guess whether they should call or fold the river.

If they are right they get a score on a league table each week. At the end of a few weeks league the best scores compete for the overall title of best hand reader.

Hands to be submitted by viewers or selected by the producers

Alternative titles.. Bluff or no bluff?, Ahead or Behind?

An online stt featuring all spt winners of the previous 12 months or a mtt featuring all spt winners of all time, prize pool to be decided by sky.

    spt winners

    "Poker AM" (or "Poker PM")

"Soccer AM" but for Poker. To include:

    /> News, views, reviews from the world of poker;
    /> Guests (range of celeb poker players, celeb non-poker players, Sky Poker players from on or off the forum);
    /> Quick sketches;
    /> Other short features, "Taxi" for example, where light hearted banter is directed to a particularly 'bad' exit hand (repping the nuts into the nuts, mis-clicks, anything fair game, just good fun, can see the presenters featuring on a few of these);
/> Just general light-hearted banter throughout really.

The main thing about this show is it's complete emphasis on fun.

Superb work, I knew you guys wouldn't disappoint!

I've just read through each and every suggestion, and while I can rule out the Liv Boeree concept pretty quickly, the rest of them are all worth a mull. I'll be back in 15 minutes or so with the three winners. Nothing like a difficult decision to start the day...

Edit: Just to let you know, I will be judging these on the best concepts - in reality some of them can't come to pass in the short term (Omaha and four cards on the TV software being one example), but I am not going to count that against the suggestions. We were after some originality and we got that :)
  • edited August 2013
Right, we're there. As I said, some very good suggestions in there and about 5-6 who had a real crack at the seats. Here are the winners though:

Greghogg - for his Call or No Call show. Simple idea but something we've not really seen on 861 before.
jdallstar - for 'Playing the Field'. Again, a pretty simple idea but would be a different angle to the way we cover tournaments and cash at the moment and help people understand background/meta game in poker games.
skicowboys - for the 'Heads-up Challenge'. Really like this idea, the banter would be great and I think you could have input from the viewers about potential match-ups in the future, too.

Congratulations to the three winners and thanks again to all of you who took part.
