I suggest we all get some guns and pitch forks and such like things. Then we could all drive round to his house, preferably in old battered pick-up trucks, ideally with those big lights stuck on the top of the truck. We would, however, have to wait until it was a foggy night. If possible I would like us to all wear dungarees and speak in a deep american accent. When we got there we could burn his house down and then run him out of town.

On a serious note, just ignore the idiot. As my mum always said give them no attention and they will soon go away.

    +1, really is that simple.

Amazing how frequently threads get closed nowardays. This 1 prob required a snap closure.

The thread I started 3 yrs ago asking for an employee to be sacked is still open, and gets bumped quite often.

    "lol sky"

If the abuse is reported, and dealt with in the correct manner,i.e through sky,and the
said offender is found guilty of abuse in the chat box, then where is the difference?

Because the police in conjunction with the CPS are powered by statute to enforce the law and declare specific behaviour as criminal or otherwise. Sky on the other hand do not have this power and nor do we as members of the public.  That's the difference.

Unless sky act on this with throwing their account out of sky poker it will continue, chat bans are all well and good but imo do no good coz after that time they get to continue their vile abuse once chat ban is removed.now we all love a bit of banter, god ive had loads over the years with players but that's all it is, but there is a point when banter turns vile, sky have to say that this wont be tolerated you are banned from this site,or does rake come before others enjoyment, which I think is the sticking point on this subject.

So you are aware, chat bans are very often permanent.

    A leading online poker room (with the initials PS) said the following on another well known poker forum just three days ago;

"........under various European data protection laws, it is illegal for us to publicly identify the names or User IDs of people who are alleged to have breached our Terms of Service."

    and;

"We have previously obtained legal advice on this very issue and our lawyers advised us that we cannot publicly disclose names or other personally-identifying information"

I'm pretty sure the same European laws will apply to Sky Poker, and therefore explain why the outcome of complaints about chat abuse (and just about anything else) are never revealed either on the forum or to the person making the complaint, and why naming and shaming is a no-no.

    Hey folks,

A couple of things on this one and then hopefully the thread can continue in a positive way.

We never want our customers to have to subjected to offensive language or bullying, either on the tables or on here. If someone is abusive towards you on the tables, please report it to Customer Care. Gary is absolutely spot on when he mentions we aren't allowed to discuss the resolution of cases, but I can assure you that ALL cases are looked into and dealt with accordingly.

As for abuse on the forum, it's here in front of us. You have a Report Abuse button next to each profile. Again, when someone submits a report on a forum user, it IS looked into. That is a fact. The outcome of that again can't be discussed and Sky Poker will NEVER support a name and shame policy.

Report abuse at the tables to Customer Care. If you don't there's a much higher chance that they 'get away with it' and subject someone else to the same unpleasant experience. What I can say is that, once reported, Sky Poker do treat all reports seriously. Frankly put, we don't want that type of behaviour on our site.

    Thanks all,
    Dave

P.S The one way this thread will get closed is if it turns into a "well last night I got called this...." list. That doesn't really do much for improving the situation - reporting the person who makes the comments does.

In Response to Not impressed : It's really frustrating Vespa. This thread will be closed and you'll be told to report it to Customer Care.  A number of people I know have done just that.  Then, next time you play,  you see them there again doing exactly the same thing. I find it so bizarre that Sky will close threads so quickly over trivial things.  Yet chatbox abuse seems to be constantly ignored. No doubt we'll be told that these things are taken seriously. Just doesnt seem like it sometimes.

Naming and shaming may not be an option, but what about letting the forum know how many incidents have been reported and how many chat bans have been issued? in the form of a monthly report?
That way, victims and perpetrators can see Sky have zero tolerance for abuse.
If figures reduce as a consequence, greater confidence in the site could achieve more enjoyable poker

Nice idea i like that Mr Dosh

I'm thinking maybe some pop-up messages in the chat box reminding players that chat abuse will not be tolerated.

Sorry I have to disagree somewhat. Are you saying ignore them and do nothing? If so that is wrong and it needs to be reported at least. I agree with trying to ignore them in the chatbox, if you respond it just eggs them on further but if you let them get away with it then it's unfair on the next person to be abused when it could have been avoided.
What I would like to see is the person making the complaint being informed by Sky what action has been taken.

Edited to say: Just read Garys post on the law so I guess the above may not be possible.

It's not always that easy though is it? Wether these people do it to intimidate or tilt others or they are just lacking that something in their genetic make up that allows normal interaction with others, the point is that it is incredibly unpleasant and ruins what is normally avery pleasant experiance. If you went out to play at a casino or even your local and there was someone in their spouting abuse at you every time you went in, how long before you thought "sod this i'm going to go somewhere else"
As ever the small minority ruin it for the rest. Though just because they are in the minority it doesn't mean that they should be allowed to get away with it.
Sometimes turning the other cheek just means you get slapped on both of them!

i certainly wouldnt be going elsewhere to play if i was being abused everynight in the casino, i would nip it in the bud straight away and if he wasnt prepared to listen he would be invited to join me for a scrap on the carpark, win lose or draw he wouldnt do it again now he knows you wont put up with it.  this isnt internet tough talk either its a fact and how i would deal with it!!! as for chatbox abuse i dont no how anbody could let it get to them so much, certain things are sick like  wishing cancer on people etc and they should be banned for life in chatbox but half the stuff like being g a y insults are just childish idiotic things born out of frustration cos there losing money. you just ignore it or fight fire with fire and ask them if there sweaty mother thinks im g a y. haha

thats my take on it anyway but everyones different with diffrent tollerance levels i suppose!!!

But surely the issue here is that no-one is taking them into the car park and giving them a slap!
Like you that is how i was taught to deal with these things but it doesn't mean that i want to spend all my nights in car parks!(well unless someones left an interior light on of course!)

Let's please not let a thread on abuse turn into a thread where people insult each other or argue too much. It's threads like this that are impossible to please all on, we've already been told to leave it open and also to close it. Please, please keep the discussion sensible.

Let's make this 100% crystal clear again, we do not tolerate the bad abuse. Examples like the one's people have highlighted will result in a ban, possibly permanently.

Again, we do monitor chat and have processes in place but we also appreciate help from players too. If you see something you do not like, please send details over to us and we will deal with it.

    Thank you

well im not trying to promote violence because its not big and its not clever but sometimes its the only language some people understand and if it stops them from spoling other peoples time at a casino in the future then you have done the world a favour in my opinion.. i could almost guarentee you that anbody writing things about peoples sexuality or race in a chatbox would 9 times out of 10 be the quietest person at the table in a casino and wouldnt dream of repeating such things so the car park would most likely not be needed. haha.

i wouldnt be against sky having names and address underneath aliases, lol. it would def make people think twice before they say certian things!!!
