VEGAS: who is going this year?

edited April 2014 in Poker Chat
There seems to be a quite a few people thinking about going to Vegas this year judging by some of the posts over the last couple of weeks.

I am also thinking of going around the end of May/Start of June - start of WSOP. Probably for 10 days /2weeks. Dates can change though - I dont have my heart set on anything. Hotel will be on the cheaper side (think $30-$40 a day)

I havent been before, but judging by the other posts, and my research, £2k would  cover everything except your poker. That includes flights, 2 weeks in a hotel, living expenses including a bit of partying.

I dont know about everyone else, but my circle of mate includes those that are not interested in poker, and those that have a vague interest (occasional home games etc). Going to Vegas for 1-2 weeks to mostly play poker wouldnt interest them. There is one who would be interested...but he has a gambling problem...probably best I dont mention it.

This got me thinking...Surely there are others in the same boat..

sooo...is any one else is interested in going as a small group with other sky players?

if you are interested, post below, and say when you would like to go as well as any other preferences you have.

Good post.  If i go (very unlikely this year, hopefully definately next year)  i would be doing basically exactly what you suggested in your other post.

Maybe not play poker every single day though, and do some trips 1 or 2 days.

Hopefully Sky run the Vegas packages, and then that would be an absolute ideal time to go, when 7 - 12 sky regs would be out there playing.

I'll throw my hat into the ring.  I wont be playing big tournaments everyday so wont need the poker roll similar to yours, but poker will be the main reason im going.

Your group of mates sound a bit similar to mine.  None of them really got into poker so would be interested in something like this, providing I can keep costs sensible :)

The Bromleys will deffo be there but prob mid-end June for 10 days or so.

Hope loads of sky players will be out there at the same time!

Im up for going to grind $1/2 cash and $50 - $200 tourneys ive done it twice before with a mate who just went there for blackjack and roulette. But with poker players that would be a quality 2 weeks!!

Im going March and Sept but might be able to squeeze another trip in.

I'm kinda in the same boat but after alot of nagging I've got some folk to come along.

Would be great to go along with poker minded peeps and make it a annual thing.
  • edited January 2014
Yep, both Bromleys will be present and correct.

Initial plan is to get out there in time for the WSOP Ladies again (for me, obvs.  Mr isn't playing!), but that may change depending on whether one of us binks a Main Event seat.

There has been a lot of talk on the site about a Sky trip out there this summer and all indicators point to a big summer out there for the community.

I am planning on taking a roll-call mid April, to make sure that everyone has a "Vegas Buddy"!

I may be going to Vegas this year, if not this year then definitely next year!!

Far too early in the year for me to make plans though as I'm currently in the process of job hunting and need to wait until all that is sorted out first :-)

1267 - thanks. Not sure if Sky will be running them or not. I dont think they did last year... but if they do this year, and we hear about them before anything is planned then that would be a good time to go.

I'm sure I'll be wanting a day or too off poker too - so some trips of some kind would be a nice. Any Suggestions?

Gazza - lol... dont believe you. if your record on sky is anything to go by, you'll not only play in  big tourneys, but you'll bink one too! ...Get saving! :)

Bromleys- I'm sure there will be people from Sky there pretty much the whole summer by the sounds of it. We may see you out there! GL on binking a Main event seat. Would LOVE to play that one day.

Timmy - "But with poker players that would be a quality 2 weeks!!"     Yes. Yes it will.

DTM - what do you play when you are out there? would be great to make it an annual thing :)

Peter - hopefully you can make it out, if not this yr, then next

    Personally would love to.

Probably Mrs P's idea of hell so wont be happening this year - she deserves a good holiday after what she has been through.

Now maybe Aruba - fantastic beaches and she might actually believe I never knew they had casinos there ;-)

Would he play if staked? Obviously if staked, we would decide on attire!

Poker wise I'd mix it up with cash and mtts but both would be coming second to partying!

Never mind attire for him, I think we should try & smarten Natalie up a bit. We could select something smart for her to wear, right? That Lidl Fashion range she wears does nothing for her.

When a load of the UK boys go over, I always hear them say they all stay in a villa or something, just off the strip. Is that the kind of thing you were thinking? Anyone who has been out there a lot (Ryan/Tikay/Julian etc etc) have any idea what this would cost. If you're thinking of going for a week or 2 then that's an option that should definitely be looked at.

Would deffo be something I am interested in if we got a few of us.

    Staying in a villa?

It's a matter of personal taste, Charles.

Generally, when lads go together, they like doing the villa thing, as they are all together, & there is a sort of fun atmo in the house.

But it is not to everyone's taste.

I did the villa thing one year, with Jon Kalmar (the year he finalled the WSOP Main), Paul Jackson, Marc Goodwin, Dave Colclough, & that crowd. The villa was lovely - swimming pool, the whole lot - but I did not enjoy cooking my meals, as I don't go to Vegas to cook food. Usually, the shops are a goodly way from the Villa, too.

Worse still, by definition, the Villas are a goodly way off-strip, usually a 10 or 15 minute drive. That means either you all travel to & fro to the Strip together, which is a bind, as we want to come & go as & when we please. Busting out of a Tourney & then waiting 5 hours for the geezer with the car keys sucks. And if we want to go play a Tourney earlier, or later, than the others, it all gets awkward.

Taxis then? No way! We often had to wait 2 hours for a cab to arrive, it was horrendous, we all got tetchy because we were missing the start of play, that sort of thing.

For me, it's a Hotel every time, not even close, but yes, others enjoy renting a sick villa. Note, all Vegas villas HAVE to be described as sick, apparently. I also like the fact that I can get fast food - or a sit-down meal - in the Casino, on my way back to the room at night.

Ryan & Co often rent a Villa, & I think they love it.

Each to their own personal taste, really.
