Yes i'm going Vegas this year with the girlfriend. We're going for 2 weeks in August as this was the only time of the year we could go. (we both turn 21 this year so it's a 21st present for each other lol) I'm not going to play poker specifically, more of a holiday, of course i'll be playing a little poker ;) We are staying at the Venetian, any advice from things to do to poker tournaments/cash games worth playing if i get chance? Much appreciated. p.s i've also heard August is a bad time to go due to the heat, anyone been at this time of the year?

July & August are almost identical as to weather, though July is slightly hotter, see....

     http://www.vegas.com/weather/averages.html

Have to say, it is unbearably hot outside all day, every day, & all night, too. But in the Casinos, Cardoooms & Hotels, they all have Aircon, & it is often a touch too cold.

If you plan to play poker (i.e., sit around for hours at a time) you WILL need a coat, or jumper, it really is very cold in some places, as the Aircon is set to max.

Don't underestimate how hot it is, though, in July & August. Jeez, it takes your breath away.

This may be the inexperience in myself, as I never knew of these unbearable temperatures when booking, but hopefully i'll still enjoy it.

I doubt i'll be playing poker for long stints given that i'm with my girlfriend.

I'm in a similar position to the OP and would love a Vegas trip. Married with kids, I'd need permission for 2 weeks but 7-10 days will be no problem as long as it's not a school holiday! Pencil me in.

Please keep this thread updated with dates/deposits etc.

    BB.

Would like to get on board but i'm supposed to be going to tomorrowland the month after and don't think i can afford both :( Haven't booked anything yet though so just posting an interest. Sounds like it would be a belter if we could get a lil poker firm together. I'm in the same boat regarding mates, there's a few that like to play a home game or an occasional trip to the casino but organising a holiday revolving around poker just isn't going to happen.

I waited in an online queue for over an hour to be told all the tickets had been sold out, FML.

These ticket tout sites like viagogo buy loads with different cards, there was a program on about them last year it's a joke tbh.

The tickets are on for like 3x face value, and i'm not getting raped like that, looks like i'm not going again sigh...

Defo considering jumping on this vegas trip though so not all that bad.

I have a smashing coat for this year's World Series Mr Kendall.

    You will love it!

Ps we are confirmed as being out there by the end of June.  Will land in time for the Ladies on 27 June 2014 and play from there. Probs be out 10 days to 2 weeks, depending on work.

    Excite.

Virgin have their sale on for the next few days so anyone sitting on the fence then be quick about it.  I saved about £250 from the prices of a few days ago.

Just had a look on the Virgin website, they have decent availability for mid June. A lot of return flights hovering around the £600 price mark. Can get as low as £587 on some dates (Monday 9th June to Tuesday 17th for example), which is a very good price these days for direct flights to Vegas on a reputable carrier.

Also try to be as flexible as possible. If you did Sunday 8th June to Saturday 14th, its over £2k return. Fly back a day later and its £640, ridiculous difference.

Just call me Thomas Cook :)

Also doing outward in economy and return in premium economy for the £870+ mark, again not bad considering you can sometimes pay that for your bog standard seats both ways, and it's a 10.5 hour overnight flight home, so the extra space will be very much welcome.

FWIW, PE return starts from about £1200, economy one way/upper class coming back kicks off at £1677, and if you win FT jackpots and Rollers on a weekly basis, mentioning no names ;), full upper class returns are £2800 upwards.

Its a bit late for this year, but for future vegas trips it really is worth joining the BA Executive Club or the Virgin Frequent Flyer program which I would be surprised if the pros havent already enrolled.

You get miles for flying and paying cash, but you can collect airmiles (avios) from partners such as tescos, hotel chains etc. These miles can be used to redeem flight seats or pay for hotel stays.

Just your normal weekly spend can build up enough avios for virtually a free flight to Vegas within a few years (unfortunately you still have to pay the tax). There are also sites out there that will help you maximise your avios stash to the extent that you could travel in style (either business or first class) which then opens up the lounges for free food and booze pre flight amongst other things. I should imagine you would see tikay in the concorde lounge at heathrow on his way to vegas every year!

The Virgin sale is over but BA have some decent deals on select dates but sorting ASAP is best!

I'm all booked up and ready to go - flight, condo and car sorted and also twisted Mr Nick Pryce's arm to join for a couple of weeks.

Who else is going to be there?

Lose her ticket but book her a 5 star spa package in Mauritious with her best freind instead? *May require winning and not railing WSOP*
