PLO & PLO8 MTT's - suggestions welcome.

People love BHs on here, so to attract new players it will have to be this format. To stop them becoming feeding-frenzies, the blinds must be kept very low for the first few levels: 5/10, 10/20, 15/30, 20/40 before ramping up a bit.

One idea that might play well though I've never seen it tried: have one re-buy worth double the stack. That is, if you get 3000 chips at the start and get busted, when you rebuy you get 6000 chips, but you must have zero chips before this happens. It would be interesting to see how this played out, especially in a BH format.

"....Macacgirls 100 challenge was popular so we could do with something similar? ....." For those unfamiliar, it was a 100 game DYM challenge (could equally well be MTT's) based on best ROI over 100 games. To a degree, it was run on trust, it was self-policed. No prizes, just bragging rights. It was immensely popular.

    Been thinking on this one.

How about a Mixed MTT Mash-up challenge.

Something along the lines of tracking 100 MTT results

Keep all the good things from Macacgirls challenge:

    self-marking
    no time pressure
    no complicated rules
for the bragging rights and banter - no prizes (especially as self marking) although exaggerated claims will no doubt get cross-checked by a s/scop user.

You complete and track your results over 100 MTTs - Freerolls and Rebuys don't count.

It's not your next 100 results that count, but

your next 25 PLO MTTs  +
    your next 25 PLO8 MTTs +
your next 25 NL freezout MTTs +
your next 25 BH MTTs (leaving that one open for any format in case PLO(8) BHs appear in the schedule.

To give a combined score based on 100 MTTs

To be fair to all bankroll levels result would have to be ROI based - which makes the scoring a bit trickier than the PLO8 dym win/loss ratio. I would be happy to create a tracking spreadsheet for people to use.

There would be a set start date before which results don't count - and no set finish date (or maybe a nominal one e.g. the end of the year)

Could have a leaderboard in play and for those in the clubhouse. Main bragging rights to overall champ but then there would be x4 best in category tables too for each format.

If there is a smattering of interest here I'll start a new thread.

Well the idea of the mixed format is to encourage NL players to try PLO(8) which I thought was one of the aims of the thread. Also to keep some PLOpper v NoLer banter going.

We might discover the next Matt Ashton?

Coming from someone who so blatantly splits their allegiances, I am surprised that you would think that this thread or any challenge should be PLO only ;-) (coming from a Stones fan/adopted nobbler, who also likes the Hammers)

    Some interesting ideas.

Think PLO8 has taken off remarkably well in a short space of time. Tikay's pushing of it has created interest but the Thursday Night PLO8 League has ramped it up a bit.

I know a fair few PLO8 players that play other sites & most are not satisfied with what is offered. The satisfaction rate on SKY is higher IMO but still across a small sample and at lower buy ins.

The analogy that there are two groups, those who like the current offering & those that don't probably holds true in most things in life and while change is inevitable, it is those that seek change for changes sake that invariably lose what is good in the vain search for somthing better.

The key is to build upon what is already good and try & attract more into the £1 games whilst experimenting with bigger buy in events & rebuys.

On the cash game front, my local casino doesn't rake pots if no-one wins more than 50% of the pot. Cash games could flourish if the same rule applied online.

     Interesting thread.

I would tend to agree with Rancid here. I think the two games can achieve different things.

PLO8 has a foothold...that nice little start is great and it can be built on to attract PLO8 players from other sites to come and try Sky Poker as their PLO8 home. Maybe the way to encourage that is to attempt a 2nd night...maybe Saturday and have a bigger buy-in mtt with perhaps a reasonably ambitious guarantee and a decent super-sat on Thursdays. I wouldn't be any more ambitious than that though, it's not like you should jump right in and have a big buy-in five nights a week.

Saturday is a funny night for online poker. There are three nights when recreational players want to play and obviously Sunday is the one that most people focus on as that is when the big events have traditionally been on. I do think it's very hard for any site to compete head-on with Stars on a Sunday though and I think a lot of sites miss the chance to try something different on Saturday.

A couple of years ago all we ever heard was that PLO is coming and that it might even take over from NLH. It never really happened and even if the top cash pros went down that route most players did not. I would say it's a great way for a site to encourage players who have perhaps tired a little of NLH to reinvigorate their love of poker. I would focus on PLO being a way of getting existing NLH players to experiment with the switch which means going for the same structure and tournament type that is popular in NLH and making it PLO. I would run this also on Saturday...make it Omaha night, and I wouldn't worry so much about having to go crazy to push the sats...I'd imagine this will fill more easily and you'll have a bigger player base.

Maybe you have an extra promotion of a jackpot for players final-tabling both Saturday Omaha events.

Some great ideas on this thread. Sorry if I've detracted from any of them. As someone who hasn't been involved in the PLO8 revival around here I maybe should keep my beak out.

Nice one Brian, I think it would be fantastic to see The ambo playing in the Thursday league.

Obviously, as the winner from last week, I'd take it easy on him if he was on one of my tables.

How about it Mr Ambo, up for a little PLO8?

    p.s watch out for AJMilton(PLO8Champ)

It seems inconceivable that if this can be done in live games, it couldn't be done online. Surely the marginal cost of an extra table online is negligble compared to the cost of an extra table at a casino?

Of course if it proves successful (as with anything in poker) it'll be copied (and probably done better) by ***s, but there must be some first mover advantage for Sky to implement something like this and sell it as a USP for as long as it takes other sites to catch on?

In response to Ivanovic......and Suzy correct me if Im wrong but I think what Suzy is saying is if it takes you 2 hrs to win £200 in a small tournament compared to 4 hrs winning £2k in a big one......the odds of winning the £2k in a bigger field are lower than the odds of winning £200 in a small tournament.....therefore when you take that into account it makes your overall winnings a little closer over a long period....assuming your a wainning player.

I'm now going to send this Upstairs, though quite what they will make of it I don't know, as we never reached much of a consensus.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, & let's see what, if anything, they come up with.

What about a tourney on the lines of  mayhem, or BH? That seems to have been very well recieved by the majority on the site. Make it a bit more appealing to the NLH players. Wel all know well most of us know that AJ is the king of PLO8 well why not have a larger bounty on his head for knocking him out? What about Tikay and Mr Channing joining in too as well as Mr Orford? I for one am starting to like Plo8 and it's great fun and banter on the tables. I wouldn't be as comfortable though with a bigger buy in at the minute (still clueless as what i'm doing but am not doing that bad) Get something like that together and get it posted on f.b sites etc and am sure the lure will bring them in. Just a thought, so don't jump on me from a great height with all technical stuff etc please.............lol I would be happy to spread the word for one if something like that could be started.

That is great Mr Channing  really think you will make a lot of people happy as this for a lot us is the only realistic way of being able too share a table with you and it will be great for the community.

Thank you for taking the time too play these as i know they are not the kind of mtts you would usually play

Well looks like it will be a good thursday(well better than usual)

Any1 fancy a 8 hour shift? Wonder what the boss will say if i ask for a night of 7 hours before i start

I really think it's time for Tikay and Mr Orford to dip their toes too. Maybe guest appearances and of course Mr Channing making guest appearances now and again. What other players would you like to see or have a chance to play on the Plo8 tables? Hopefully this may get more people to dup their toes and have fun. Good luck tonight gutted can't play.

been away for abit from this discussion but I think you have it there.
Build on the PL08 success, maybe with another night (such as some extra games on sun to support the league game.
the other suggestions around PLO/NLO are also spot on imo.
