We could play anything you like. I think the Rio has some daily and nightly MTT's with a buy in somewhere around $55. It usually only has around 50-75 entrants and lasts maybe 4 hours or so if you win it. It is a very relaxed atmosphere although you could be sat at a different table obviously.
The MGM also has daily and nightly MTT's much as above with a buy in around $70. Both these are NLHE.
Where we are staying (The Palazzo) is joined onto 'The Venetian' which has a lovely cash game card room called 'The Sands'. I think the lowest stakes they do is $1-$3 or $1-$2 NLHE which you can buy into from either $100 or $200. This would have the advantage that we could be sat at the same table and if you are unsure of anything I can help. You could also play for as long as you feel comfortable, whether it be half an hour or 8 hours. There are a mix of people at this card room too, from amateurs and tourists to regulars. A big mix of ages too, you certainly won't be the oldest at the Venetian card room!
If you prefer Omaha hi/lo then the above card room does a limit OH8 game at $4-$8 level which you can buy in from $100 upwards. It is all usually very friendly and the waitors/waitresses will bring you all the free drinks you want.
Regarding the timeframe... This shouldn't be an issue. There are 3 different days you can start your event on 'Day 1a' on the 12th June, 'Day 1b' on the 13th or 'Day 1c' on the 14th. I will be choosing 'Day 1c' on the 14th which if you also choose will give you a few days to get used to everything. You just let Sky know when you arrive which starting day you want to join the tourney on.
It is the £3,500 package I will playing the same as yourself.

To help Ned get started, here's #1 tip - never confuse cement with concrete, that's as bad as confusing trains & locomotives, roof & ceiling, tiles & slates. Different things.
Cement is a fine, dry, grey or white powder, the consistency of flour, & it comes in a bag.
Add aggregate & water to cement, mix & aerate it thoroughly, allow it to set, or "go off", & you get concrete, which is hard & inert.
Don't suppose you like Bridges, Railways, Motorway Service Stations, or the GB Road Numbering system?

PS - the legendary investor Warren Buffett owns one of the biggest USA Railroads - BNSF. (That's short for Burlington Northern & Sante Fe). His freight railroad passes through Las Vegas between the Rio Hotel & The Strip. I've spent many a happy day there, watching the trains. The number of freight wagons is often in excess of 100, with up to six (SIX) Diesel Locomotives providing traction, usually 3 at the front, 1 in the middle & 2 at the rear. I could go on if need be.
As the saying goes 'Gather ye Rosebuds while ye may.' That's the poem version of just do it. These sorts of opportunities rarely peak out and worst case scenario, you'll have a cracking time in Vegas. Literally no other place in the world like it.
As for playing live, don't sweat it. Firstly there will be people in the tournament actively trying to look stupid (and succeeding). Secondly, let's just say all the fears come true and you fumble the chips every time etc etc. What does it matter, really? When are you gonna see those table mates again? Who's even gonna remember after 30 minutes? No one.
Life's about just going for it and sucking as much joy out of the marrow of existence as we can. Plus there'll be plenty of people there to help and I would guess many of the qualifiers are in the same boat.

i usually make a stupid error once an hour.
now i have a repertoire of fantastic stories of when i did this or didn't do that. my favourites include wanting to raise to 5,000 and threw one chip. that was taken as a call. i wanted to raise... with my quad kings.
or the time when i waited 10 minutes for the player next to me to play and kept still staring at the chips in front of me. i heard the the tournament director count the clock down on him. once out, i looked up to play but saw everyone looking at me. the guy next to me had folded ages beforehand.
both of those were in dublin. i still cashed but my stories of stupidity give me more reward.
edit: in my first spt in glasgow i didn't remember my hole cards correctly, in fact i remembered the two cards from the hand before. thinking I had made a straight, i turned over my cards to reveal to the table J high. The stunned faces of all the others. I recall each one looking at me. I didn't explain. I cashed there too.
edit 2: it might be that doing stupid things might actially help you cash.
edit 3: my point is, ned, don't worry about failing. they can't shoot you and it's fun.
