Hi Ned, I went with sky last year and I'll be going this year as a +1. You will have an absolute ball. The sky staff are great and I'm sure alongside the other players will make you feel at ease.
The tournament is just a bit of fun and if you do well, great. If not you will have a great time in Vegas.
I look forward to the bump of this thread after Vegas when you come back and say you had a blast.
In Response to Re: Viva Las Vegas 2016 competition qualifiers : I also have a background in tarmacadam paving, & will happily quote chapter & verse if need be. Don't suppose you like Bridges, Railways, Motorway Service Stations, or the GB Road Numbering system? If so, we can share many a happy evening in Las Vegas chatting & ruminating. PS - the legendary investor Warren Buffett owns one of the biggest USA Railroads - BNSF. (That's short for Burlington Northern & Sante Fe). His freight railroad passes through Las Vegas between the Rio Hotel & The Strip. I've spent many a happy day there, watching the trains. The number of freight wagons is often in excess of 100, with up to six (SIX) Diesel Locomotives providing traction, usually 3 at the front, 1 in the middle & 2 at the rear. I could go on if need be. If ned can win the equivilant of just one share in Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffet ) then me thinks he would have run mighty golden.
The most interesting fact i find about Warren Buffet is he pays less tax than his secretary .Its a strange old world.

I'll be happy to get home in One piece, I very rarely expect to win a hand and when I do believe I'm going to 9 times out of 10 I lose that hand, trying to chill ned
In Response to Re: Viva Las Vegas 2016 competition qualifiers : Ned won his package in last nights Final TONUP147 90741.50 1 £3.5k VLV package + £3.5k VLV package ned17 64778 2 £3.5k VLV package + £3.5k VLV package Okz10 30503 3 £3.5k VLV package + £3.5k VLV package ChipDiddy0 24587.50 4 £3.5k VLV package + £3.5k VLV package IRIRH67 9390 5 £3.5k VLV package + £3.5k VLV package I hope you do go Ned - and that you have a great time out there. The £1000 is supposed to be towards your flight but it won't go far if you're bringing a partner with you. Having said that I'm sure some of the others going would be happy to meet up at the airport/plane etc depending on dates you're flying out there. The Sky team will look after you well out there - and it would be the experience of a lifetime. If you do decide to go then perhaps you could try to play a few small local games to get used to playing live? Really hope you do decide to go. Posted by IrishRose
Hi not sure if I replied to you been lots of messages and I'm new to this sort of thing so sorry if I didn't, a quick update have sent my info to sky, so I've started the ball rolling, thanks ned
Hi all, I think I've replied to all your messages if I've missed some accept my apology it wasn't done on purpose, this is a quick update to all I have started the ball rolling and sent my information to sky, so thanks to everyone for all the help and encouragement you've given me, I will keep in touch and let you know how it went if I play before I go, cheers yes I've started drinking already
i usually make a stupid error once an hour. now i have a repertoire of fantastic stories of when i did this or didn't do that. my favourites include wanting to raise to 5,000 and threw one chip. that was taken as a call. i wanted to raise... with my quad kings. or the time when i waited 10 minutes for the player next to me to play and kept still staring at the chips in front of me. i heard the the tournament director count the clock down on him. once out, i looked up to play but saw everyone looking at me. the guy next to me had folded ages beforehand. both of those were in dublin. i still cashed but my stories of stupidity give me more reward. edit: in my first spt in glasgow i didn't remember my hole cards correctly, in fact i remembered the two cards from the hand before. thinking I had made a straight, i turned over my cards to reveal to the table J high. The stunned faces of all the others. I recall each one looking at me. I didn't explain. I cashed there too. edit 2: it might be that doing stupid things might actially help you cash. edit 3: my point is, ned, don't worry about failing. they can't shoot you and it's fun. Posted by aussie09
and the moral of aussie story is dont be afraid to have another look at your cards if need be. honestly tho i think most of us misread our own hands, ive done it with a4 thinking it was aa i also reraised someone that said allin with just us in pot on my second time in a casino. 1st was sky pokers boot camp. Not booked yet waiting for money to be placed in my account will letyou know
I managed to fluke a win in last weeks half time tourney so just managed to scrape in under the wire to join you.
My question to the more experienced huge field players should I be concerned about the fact its a rebuy and do not have the pockets to have multiple stabs at it. My instinct is to try and play tight unless convinced I have the best hand until the rebuy period closes and hope that the average stack is not way above me? All on the big assumption I make it that far.....
My biggest live tourney to date was a £100 freeze out over 2 days that somehow I managed to get 3rd but a 4500 field is pretty daunting and 60 min binds!!!
Any advice will be much appreciated and am really looking forward to meeting you all. Truth is I'm a pretty awful player who loves the game and occasionally manages to play sensibly.
I don't think the tourney will play like a normal online rebuy with loads of rebuys all over the place. Looking at the prizepool for last years event, it doesn't look like there were too many re-entries.
Starting stacks will be 10k or 200 BB's and while some will re-enter for sure, I think plenty people will be playing it without the intention of rebuying (myself included). I hope to play cash games and some other smaller MTT's over there and wouldn't use that money to re-enter TBH. I will have my stab at it with the 10k starting stack and hope it goes well.
Regarding the play in general, there is usually a bit of a wide mix of abilities. My approach will be to pay close attention to every hand whether I am involved or not and have an idea of what I can get away with and with whom at the table, get an idea of ranges, identify any betting patterns and see what I can do with the 200BB starting stack which allows a reasonable amount of play.
The 60 minute blinds are okay, they sound great but in reality it usually takes longer to get through hands than when compared to online so before you know it the blinds get quite elevated. It is certainly better than the vast majority of non WSOP live MTT's going on in Vegas which are usually 20-30 minutes blind levels. It is also better than most $1k events at the WSOP which usually have 5k starting stacks.
I'm going to have a good time regardless of the outcome, thrilled to be there. Its a trip I wouldn't have been able to make otherwise, who knows maybe this blind squirrel can stumble on a nut or two.
Well done spik1966, I was heads up with you! Very best of luck and let us know how you get on in Vegas. Ger Posted by gerardirl
Thank you Ger, was a fun game we both got the outcome we wanted and will keep you posted, smart money is on me not making past day 1 but you never know......

In Response to Re: Viva Las Vegas 2016 competition qualifiers : Chilling i've been to lots Vegas twice before and only played roulette because I was too scared to play poker this is a bad case ofavoidance behaviour because I should be called shaky Ned This could be so embarrassing I don't know if I can even pick the chips up I know this sounds pathetic but I'm just being honest I know I've got to sort this out quick so I might go to Southend Casino if so I will let it be known how it went thanks yan Posted by ned17
Hi mate, congrats on winning the package and best of luck should you go.
With regard to the shaky hand syndrome I really wouldn't worry about this at all. I have seen plenty of players, of all ages, shake as they go to count out there chips. It's pretty common.

Its good you have played live ned and appeared to have enjoed it.The more you play live, the more comfortable you will feel for sure. Note, i did see someone post something about taking ten minutes to walk from one end , to other, in a casino in vegas. Deffo on a grander scale, but just focus on your cards and chips, and not on the crumpet, lol. It would be nice if you kept a diary and enlightened us folk who may never visit vegas. gl gl. I wouldn't worry about that Ned! When you go into a single one off MTT you can't 'expect' to cash, even the very best MTT players in the world bust the majority of tourneys they play. In my opinion just go and have fun, play the best you can, enjoy the experience and if you manage to cash just treat it like a big bonus!
A high 'In The Money' rate would be 20% which would mean busting 4 out of 5 MTT's played, so no pressure.
Don't let anything bother you ned this is going to be something you remember for ever and there will be a lot of help from the rest of the bunch saviour the time and have fun anything else is a bonus
