Crash bang wallop - last night's Sky High Roller review.

edited November 2016 in Poker Chat

Here’s a quick look back at last night’s Sky High Roller, which is the current flagship event of the new MTT Schedule.

We’ll breeze quickly through the first few hours, then pick it up hand by hand, including bustouts, from the last 2 tables, all the way to the finishing line.

For those who expressed concern at the possible late finish to this, because most of us have to get up in the morning, this one was all over at 0054, so  allowing for a cup of Horlicks or Ovaltine, they were all safely tucked up in bed by 1.15am, doubtless rubbing pound notes over their more than ample moobs.

    9pm – 28 runners

    That was a good start, & suggests it will just about cover.

    9.30pm – 41 runners

    Going along nicely now, the first bustout has happened, being the Swansea nutjob, HAYSIE.

    Early pacemakers were DAVEMCDAID, Sticky Solly, & the comeback kid, jermaine99.

    First break, 9.55pm

    39 of 45 remain, & the Top Ten looked like this…..

    DAVEMCDAID 13795 Lottieloux 10852.25 SoLack 9974.50 MattBates 9571.50 TAPSOLAP 9190.50 TommyD 9163 MUZOWNED 8925 Matzo 8452 sean346 778.50 Perizoma 7754.38

    I am not familiar with lottieloux, but he/she mainly plays Freerolls, (cashed in a PLO Freeroll  earlier in the evening )or £1 & £2 games, so that must have been a thrill to be up there with the Big Boys. Love to see that sort of thing.

    Most of the others are familiar faces. If you are wondering where you have heard the alias Perizoma, he won a Punta Cana trip in 2015, & if I’m not mistaken (has been known) he cashed, or at least ran very deep in the Punta Cana Classic. Smashing lad with lovely hair & good manners.

    StayOrGo was near bottom of the Leaderboard, but Graham is a real cling-on merchant & plays a short stack with aplomb.

    Late Reg (is he ever punctual?) closes, & the Guarantee has been met – just - with 51 hopeful entrants, of whom 42 remained.

    So now we know the Prize Pool, & it works out quite nicely, with all final tablers to get paid;

    All change at the top, with Newcastle’s gonedoggin catapulting to the top of the charts, & young Vinny, aka CxE1 in the ascendancy, & these two will meet face to face in a fortnight as both have won packages to Punta Cana with Sky Poker.

    11pm, 2nd break

    29 of 51 remain, & now the tourney starts in earnest.

    The new chippy, ESTEROIDE is a high stakes heads up player on Sky Poker, so if he gets heads up in the Final, he’ll be nailed on to win I’d say. And if you are wondering what ESTEROIDE stands for, I believe it is Spanish for “steroids". But you knew that.

    Ominously, StayOrGo, who does such remarkable charity work here on Sky Poker, was sitting handily now, tucked right in behind the leaders.

    Midnight, 3rd break

    That was a brutal hour, with the field thinned down to just 10 of 51 now. Blinds are 400-800, & the average stack 400-800, so this might take a while.

    Gazshep, on the move after taking a big beat earlier, does the right thing at the wrong time & runs his 10-3 into Esteroide’s 6-5, & exits.

    9 left

    SICKJOKE limps in with the Aces, & TommyD has the Jacks, and Lord Luckbox himself (Tommy, obv) flops his set to bust SICKJOKE. As it happens, however they play the hand, SICKJOKE goes broke here. UL fella, them’s the breaks.

    8 left, so now they go H4H on the 2 tables. Some folks wonder why, with 6 paid, they go H4H at 8, but on Six Max Tables that’s exactly correct imo.

  • edited October 2016

    0016

    MattBates (Q-Q)& gonedoggin(A-K) get the lot in, inevitably, and an Ace in the door deals a big blow to Batesy, who is left with 12 Bigs. Doubt those 12 Bigs will be gathering much dust, Matt will be getting well busy now, & will widen his range maybe as far south as Jacks.

    Blinds are now 600-1,200, with the average at 32,000, so now is the time to google point of inflection.

    Doncaster’s finest (T & C’s apply) Granite89, third in this last week for £1,400 or so, gets it in with 4-4 v the Kings of gadgerno1. A 3rd heart on the turn dramatically increases the equity of Granite’s fours, but a blank river sends him plummeting down the order.

    TommyD 56862.75 gonedoggin 54200 ESTEROIDE 49123.50 Sir-Gary 32037 Granite89 22765.25 gadgerno1 20533.50 MattBates 9844 StayOrGo 9634

    Granite89 sets up with 10-10 to send gadgermo1 to the rail, & we are down to 7, with the double bubble (Final Table and cash).

    Who’ll take the honour of 2xBubble Boy?

  • edited October 2016

    0027

    StayOrGo is on the move with K-6 (top of his range I gather) & MattBates fancies a dance with 5-5 (another top of his range affair), in they go, with Graham needing to hit, which he did, & MattBates exits as 2XBubble Boy.

    The chat box & rail was well-natured, & MattBates types “off to the railroad tracks”, to which MAXALLY responds “don’t worry, it will go over you with plenty to spare”. Outrageously non-PC.

    So with Blinds at 800-1,600, & an average of 42,000, (about 26 Bigs) we had ourselves a Final.

    TommyD 57462.75 gonedoggin 57200 Granite89 52898.75 ESTEROIDE 41889.50 StayOrGo 23712 Sir-Gary 21837

    I’m pretty good at forecasting what time these things will end, & this looks like it has at least an hour’s play left, maybe more.  Or so I thought…..

  • edited October 2016

    Here’s the geographical line-up…..

    TommyD = London

    ESTEROIDE = LONDON

    SIR_GARY = Leicester

    Granite89 = Donny

    gonedoggin = Newcastle

    Stayorgo – Huntingdon

     Final Table Trivia – the combined ages of Sir_Gary, StayOrGo & TommyD amount to 176, so with Tommy at 49, & Graham 48, that makes Gary 79 years old. And they say old blokes can’t play?

    The Final has barely started when StayOrGo looks like Go-ing when he runs his A-8 into A-K, but a double paired board means he can Stay.

    That’s his Get out of Jail Free card used.

    Sir_Gary is on the move but gets his timing all wrong when his 8-7 in no match for the J-J of Granite 89, & we are down to 6, with Sir_Gary, who played splendidly, collecting £714.

    StayOrGo has been a busy boy but visits the nicking well once too often & his 9-7 is no good against TommyD who hits his flush & sends Graham packing, but with a handy £816 in his pocket.

    4 left, & this is playing crazy fast now.

    Just 2 minutes later, & another one bites the dust, another one bites the dust (that’s for Queen fans) when Granite89 is just a pip behind ESTEROIDE’s 10-10, & departs the scene in 4th for £1,122, one spot worse than last week, so a nice Donny double there.

    I missed the hand, but TommyD busted gonedoggin (probably a suckout knowing Tommy) & suddenly we are heads up, with gonedoggin pocketing £1,530 to take to Punta Cana with him in a fortnight.

    So, heads up we go, & with the average at 60 Bigs, this might take a while.

    And it’s all over. On a tricky 3 heart, straighty board ESTEROIDE missed all his draws having played it ultra aggro, but TommyD could not find a fold with Q-Q, & we have a winner. Sheesh, that never took long.

    So there it is, but a quick word about TommyD, who has been here on Sky Poker 8 years now.

    Tommy tells it how it is, & has been a harsh critic of Sky Poker at times - always fairly – but he understands balance, & always remembers that, overall, Sky Poker is a great place to play some poker.

    He does his charity work, Hospital Radio football commentaries on his beloved Arsenal, & is a genuinely top, top bloke.

    Rather fittingly, this £3,774 win takes him over £100,000 profit in Sky Poker scheduled games, so he joins a very elite club there, & deservedly.

    Well done Tommy.

    Traditionally, we need a puntastic headline in these things.

    Rock on, Tommy

    Tommy Guns ‘em Down

    Ton Up Tommy

    Think we’ll avoid Sky High Tommy, sounds a bit like he’s spaced out.

    If you can find a better headline, give it a go. If it's good enough, we might even find a little prize.

    That’s all folks.

    WP Tommy.

    How do you think he does it?

    I don't know!

    What makes him so good?

    Really like these write ups, cheers for your time and effort in doing them Tikay.

    As for the headline....

    Tommy the musical gave you pin ball wizard...while Tommy the player won a High Roller in a blizzard.

    On a serious note, anyone seen Batesy this morning?

    0054 finish? Luxury. That was well before the main finished (thin).

    Luckily having had the conversation before, I know not to ask Mr Bates about bubble insurance.
