    Steve Ball (AKA, Ice_tiger) was a great supporter of the trial run of this competition. So much so, that he requested that we played it again sooner rather than later.
    Unfortunately, as I am sure you all know, Steve is no longer with us.
    I'm sure many of you feel as I do, that Steve would still want us to play this. So we will do so, with a heavy heart in his memory.
    I only knew Steve as Ice_Tiger.
    I had the honour of being drawn against him twice in the trial run. It's clear from that experience, and comments made from all those who knew him, that he was a loyal, kind and caring person who played poker with great sportsmanship and a generosity of spirit. He will be sadly missed.
    It was also his suggestion, to run the whole competition on one day, which we will. That day will be: 2nd January 2017.
    I do hope however, that on 2nd January he will be looking down from wherever he is, and enjoy watching us play in his memory. No doubt cheering for the North to get revenge.
    The monies raised from this competition will go to two charities close to Steve and his family's heart. Namely:
    The Hilbrae Rescue CentreSevern Hospice
    MacMillan Cancer Support (Max's Web Page) will also receive donations from the TLB comp.
    RIP Steve, I hope we can do you proud on 2nd Jan 2017. You will be in our thoughts (Northerner and Southerner alike) throughout. 

    Please can players that played in the trial run, recruit and explain the rules to new members, many thanks.

    Nearer the time I will re-confirm player availability, so if you can put yourself down to play provisionally and I will confirm the final teams on 27th Dec 2016.

    On 28th Dec, the captains will select their teams for the initial foursomes only. I will post the times of the various matches. (The total number of matches will depend on the number of players involved)

    The Captains will then select the remaining parings and their respective orders on 2nd Jan after each of the preceeding rounds completes.

    Lets serve Ice_Tiger well and do this with a generosity of spirit that he so clearly exemplified.

    Hi Max, what times would you be available on 2nd Jan?

    Under the current schedule, we could make arrangements for you to play between 11am and 1pm (and/or) between 4pm and 6pm.

    Are either of those time slots possible for you? I would really like you to be able to play.

    If not, we can consider changing the times to enable you to play. What is you general availability on 2nd Jan?

    Hi.

    I have received a message from Misty4Me and unfortunately, due to family commitments, he is unable to captain or play for the ICE_TIGER Ryder Cup Southern team.

    So I shall be a playing captain for the South.

    May I take this opportunity to thank MISTY for the sterling job he did on the trial run. If I can do half as good a job as he did, we'll be OK.

    Donna and I have agreed that:

    THE NORTHERN STEEL OWLS charity will be: The Severn Hospice (which looked after Steve)

    THE SOUTHERN ICE TIGERS charity will be: The Hilbrae Rescue Centre (where the family got their beloved pet dog, Splashy)

    70% will go to the winning teams charity and 30% to the runner up's. In the event of a draw, the funds will be split 50/50

    Great to have you onboard Mike!

    I will explain the rules etc, nearer the time, but effectively you will play a series of heads up matches, some "doubles", where you have a team mate and combine your scores, then a singles match, with a scoring system similar to the Ryder Cup.

    Here's the link to the trial run. The results spreadsheet should give you an idea of the format.

    Just a quick shout out for more players.

    We certainly have enough players for it to go ahead, but we can still  accomodate more if anyone else is interested.

    We particularly need Southerners.

    Players need to be happy to contribute £20 to Ice_Tiger's charities and be fully available between 11am and 6pm on 2nd Jan 2017.

    I will post details after the competition finishes of how payments should/can be made.

    The payment details will also include the required information for competitors and sponsors of the other TLB2017 charity initiatives.

    Hi guys, please find the spreadsheet template below for the Ice_Tiger (Xmas) Ryder Cup on 2nd Jan 2017.
     
    (This assumes eight a side)

    This will give you an idea of the intended structure of the tournament.

    Please note that at 11AM on 2nd Jan 2017, proceedings will start off with a (one game only) Turbo Sit & Go between the two captains. (DarkAngel7 and myself)

    The first blind level will be three minutes and we will sit out until the second hand of level two in memory and respect for Ice_Tiger. Please do join us for a 3 minute "silent" rail, and post your respects in chat as level two starts.

    If you would like to play/are available to also play PLO and/or PLO8, please message your captains so that they can ensure that players that are scheduled for the PLO/8 games can indeed play it.

    Please note, other than the captains match, NLHE games will be Heads Up £1.05 Speed SNG's and the PLO and PLO8 games will be the standard format (only format available)

    Just before Xmas, I will ask players that have registered for this, to re-confirm their availability. Please do this no later than 28th December, as the captains will pick the first fourballs pairings on 29th December 2016.

    The fourballs pairings and singles match ups will be declared when the previous format concludes, or is close to concluding.

    Hope this all makes sense. I'm sure I will not be alone in remembering Steve Ball on this day. RIP Ice_Tiger.

       play  for). I am familier with both charities & both worthy causes. BTW I have no idea how it works so if someone
       could  briefly put me in the picture it would be helpful.

    As it stands it looks like either Sir_Gary or ItOver4u (or possibly both if 9 a side) will need to join the Southern Ice Tigers team, to balance things up. Although it will easier to see where we are when we have the final list of confirmed players on 28th Dec.

    I think Sir_Gary is from Leicester. Where are you from ItsOver4u? We will take the most Southerly player.

    Also, I was persuaded to add PLO and PLO8 games into the schedule, but no-one has come forward as yet to volunteer to play these formats.

    So I have removed a couple of the PLO/PLO8 ones, as I do fear we may not have enough specialist players in both teams.

    We previously needed at least three on each team that could play the PLO/PLO8 formats, now we need at least two on each team. So please post here if you are on the list and happy to play PLO/PLO8.

    I did say that people who wanted to play were to come forward by the end of November, so we could plan things. However we do have some flexibility should anyone else want to join us. (Especially if you are from the South)

    Hi David, great to have you on board and yes you are definitely a Southerner :=)

    Just need to double check with you that you will be free on 2nd Jan between 11AM and 6PM, and that you are OK with the £20 donation to charity. I will give details regarding how to pay the charity money on the 2nd Jan, so nothing needs to be done until January.

    If you are OK with the above, then you are all set! Nearer the time, I will ask players to re-confirm their availability, so if you could keep an eye on this thread over the Xmas period that would be great.

    LOL, no golf clubs required.

    All that is involved is playing a series of heads up poker matches between 11AM and 6PM on 2ND JAN 2017.

    The schedule will list your ID and your opponent and the time that you need to play your match. (The captain's selections for the first round of fourballs will be made on 29th Dec, so you will have a few days to "stew" over your first match)

    The format is similar to that of the Ryder Cup. So in the "foursomes" and "fourballs" you have a "team mate" and your scores are combined to determine if your team gets a win, a half, or a loss. The third round is singles, so it is just your own score that counts.

    It sounds more complex than it is, but if you look at the scoresheet from the trial run version (link a few posts back), it should hopefully make some sense.

    But don't worry if it's not completely clear now, it will all make sense once the captains pick the order and the pairings. (he says hopefully)

    If we get teams finalised by 10pm on 28th December, perhaps we can synch up and post the initial foursomes at midnight on 28th, before you go to Rose's? (If midnight is too late then perhaps 11pm on 28th)

    Is that doable?

    We just need to order the first four matches, the rest we'll do round by round. If midnight on 28th is difficult then we can work out a time on 29th. The idea is that we post our pairings as simultaneously as possible, but as long as we have each finalised our pairings and don't change them before we post, that will be fine. Just so that in effect we have no idea of each others pairings.

    Hi, it's been a while since we started scouting for players to represent the North and South respectively.

    Please can ALL PLAYERS RE-CONFIRM their availabilty for MON 2ND JAN 11AM-6PM.

    We will finalise the teams on 27th December and then post the initial foursome pairings by midnight on 28th December.

    Can players also please post if they are available to play PLO and PLO8 or just NLHE.

    So, to start the ball rolling, I re-confirm my availibilty for the South and also my son's (Limp2Lose) availability for the North.

    I am happy to play PLO8, PLO and NLHE, whilst my son is just a NLHE man.

    Can play NLHE and PLO (if needed, but no expert). Dont understand that stoopid PLO8 game though so in the style of the Dragons....I am out for that.

    Hi Max, the initial foursomes start at 11.16, 11.31, 11.46 and 12.01 respectively. (The full schedule is a few posts back) If these are too early for you, please let Donna know so she can just schedule you for the fourballs and singles.
