edited September 2011 in The Sky Poker Tour
The new Tour is in the process of being finalised..post in here with questions and comments

In the meantime...

The 2010/11 Sky Poker Tour kicks off in Blackpool on Saturday 30th October, & all being well (fingers crossed) Online Super Satellites for it will start tonight (14th September).

A lot of Players have been asking for the Tour to visit Blackpool, & the famous G-Casino there, so this one is likely to sell-out pretty quickly.

Woohoo sounds good.  I never been to Blackpool Illuminations so sounds a good one to me.  Now for the hard part - to try and qualify....lol

    Hi Mr SPT,

Im sorry I cant be with you for leg 1 of the new Tour but i wish you all the best in Blackpool. I'll be away drilling for Englands oil:(:(

Just 1 thing that myself and others discussed since DTD........As all legs for SPT are qualify only and we all route for each other can we make a requirement that all players for the 2011 Grand Final must have held a skypoker account for a minimum of 3 months????

    yours....etc.......

Personally I think the concerns about new players to SkyPoker in the Grand Final are misguided

Alternates in Live comps under the auspices of the UK Gaming commission are a fact of life...it also increases the prize pool on offer. Alternates came into play at every leg.

A Grand final that offers a direct buy will also attract players to sign up to Sky Poker to buy in (must be an objective for Sky Poker I think) and to exclude them seems draconian to me

In the meantime all the legs will remain qualification only one day events.

Thanks for your quick reply Mr SPT sir and I appreciate your opinion and the rational behind it.......I see no reason why the alternates could not have been Skypoker regular players and also the direct buy-in is necessary for those that havn't qualified. However, I question how many of these so-called "new players" will actually play frequently on the site, but im sure the market research has been done. I also agree that it must be an objective of SkyPoker to attract new players...............Sorry for raising the issue, as you know myself and many others totally appreciate the fine work yourself and all the sky team do at all these events. I just feel that the current community feel a little disappointed with the current system.............I would put up a discussion post and vote regarding this topic , just so that SkyPoker ( and indeed myself) would get an accurate opinion, however I would not like to get into trouble with the mods.

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing you in future events...

    yours, etc...........

I personally see no problem with a seperate discussion thread sir, but I'm not a mod

I don't see how such a thread would cause any "official" problems

In my opinion the Sky Poker community should be outward looking and embrace new players, whether live or online...its what keeps the place and the site itself active and growing. No not all will hang around but some will. We all found Sky Poker in different ways, some will find it via the SPT....it's a bi-product of the considerable sums spent on the SPT that this should happen.

As to alternates, your suggestion isn't practical. If a player comes to an event, is a member of the venue and wants to play o n the day he has to be offered a place on a first come first served alternates list unless the event is restricted as some are eg "Amateurs only" "Ladies only" etc etc

    2) Take the camera off Dave Bland.

how about a slightly longer structure???? i find that with the current structure it all in or fold by 2nd break.. i know its a 1 day event... but they finish at midnight!!! i play in live a couple of times a week and they do not finish until 2 - 3am... maybe if sky were prepared to stay until then the structure could be improved.. maybe by adding the 75/150 and 250/500 blinds it would slow it down a little!! or even keep them as they are but a 45 min clock instead of 30mins...

dont get me wrong i have played in spukt events so far and loved them both, would love to play more of them but a couple of hours drive to play in such a fast tourny doesnt seem worth it..... i know alot of people i have spoken to think the same!!

    thanks

I am considering adding 150-300/25 in between 150-300 and 200-400/25.  250-500 isn't a level in UK live tournaments. In my opinion  adding 150-300/25 is better than 75-150, but ....

Will advise when that has been run past the powers that be

All feeback on this welcomed, and I can pass it on....

The issue isn't that Sky staff won't stay longer!! tikay is Mr Duracell and I'm Ever Ready (cheaper and less reliable than duracell)

Excellent work by all the sky team and a special mention to all the guys who work behind the cameras...everyone was so friendly and i have to say that both infront of and behind the camera's you all work really REALLY hard! You're an absolute credit to Sky and for the record i recon the multi-brilliantly-talented Dave Bland should get a pay raise and maxxy should burn that shirt (sorry pal x)

Personally i would love a few non-rebuys for qualification thrown into the mix this time round...

Keep it up guys and can't wait to see you all again as a professional railer at an SPT soon

    xx

Can you confirm once you know for certain when the sats will be up?

    Thanks :)

It's a good schedule. We have listened and ignored, sorry, taken notice of many of the comments from this year. :-))

I have to go offline soon, so keep checking that lobby for the sats

If not tonight, sorry, but they are imminent.

Ooooo while i'm at it...i saw that the DTD final table was an under table camera one...it would be fantastic if the technology could be used to televise the final table for viewing on 865....i'm sure it would be a massive success...

The final feature table is all ready for transmission yes, absolutely no (or not many ) reasons why Sky couldn't get a feed up of the final table and then have the FT repeated throughout the year etc.

Could also have a 'feature' table throughout the comp on a live stream imo :-)

another site which has started streaming tables with no hole cards has found it to be extremely successful with lots of people logging in to watch! You've already got the qualitaaaaay analysts for the job, lots of options for bringing in sky players 'to the booth' etc

I think that the final at DTD ought to be qualify only. I would accept that DTD should have the right to run a sat like they did the day before the event, but I think a direct buy-in should be avoided. Everyone I spoke to at the evnt that were DTD regulars stated that they never play on the site, but joined up to buy in. By making it qualify only, I cans ee that many regulars might not make it, but it will encourage more poker play on the site - surely a win/win.
  • edited September 2010
If the competition is capped then imo there shouldn't be direct buy ins at the last minute however i'm all for larger fields and bigger prize monies so gogogogo!!!

What are the chances of having qualifying packages.  For example say a £250 package to give enough money for 1 nights hotel and petrol money.  Could have these once a week say on a sunday and make it a deep stack.  £25+£2.50 so 1 in 10 win package?

Anyone else be interested in this?

    BigShann, cracking idea fella....

Reading through this there are some top ideas, especially the feature table...The International Poker Room in London has one on there website too. Works well.

Determined to qualify for SPTs this time!
  • edited September 2010
Personally prefer the 1 in 5 sats to the 1 in 10.  The petrol money and hotel idea is good in theory but then depending on where the winner lived would depend on how much the petrol money would cost so could end up being a lot of money.

I finished longitude on the saturday :)

where do you want it posted?!

I think shanns big idea is quality.

you could even have a package that you win whereby you get entry to any 2 or 3 spts of your choosing etc

lots of options for how to increase the traffic for the satellites.

imo you've got to get rid of rebuy sats unless the buyin is a quid or less no one seems to play let alone rebuy in them otherwise.

haha it's cool, people weren't as annoyed by me as i'd usually expect so that's all good :-)

fwiw I bought a 10 book series called 'stranger than fiction' for a tenner and longitude/fermats last theorem were all part of it. Best tenner i've spent in a long time. if you really want though I can nick a stamp from downstairs and send you my copy but I'd want it back!!!! (first class post obv!)
