Primed for Primo? (***OFFICIAL LIVE SHOW THREAD***)

edited November 2010 in Poker Chat
The tournament starts at 8pm.  It's Sky Poker's premier weekly event: a £55 No Limit Hold'em freezeout with a guaranteed prizepool of £15,000.  Registration is open NOW.

The TV show begins at 9pm.  Trevor Harris and I will be following the Primo from start to finish.  Last weekend, I was treated to some top quality tournament action in Las Vegas - and I expect the same this evening.  So, don't let me down!  Let's see a display of first-class poker...with a few spewy shoves and bad beats thrown in :)

During tonight's four-hour opus, Trevor and I will also answer your questions (skyopen@bskyb.com), rail the cash tables and get to grips with some sophisticated strategy in The Poker Clinic.

Now, I've just discovered the 49ers game is on at 9.15pm as part of Sky Sports 2's NFL double-header.  Alas, I won't be able to watch it, as I'm bringing poker to the masses on channel 865.  But this unfortunate scheduling conflict has inspired me to ask the following question:

Have you ever double-booked yourself and had to lie your way out of the situation?

Promised to take your partner to dinner on the same evening as the monthly night out with your mates?  Said "yes" to a friend's wedding only to realise you're also meant to be attending a relative's birthday party the same weekend?

I'd like to hear your stories - especially if they involve some really pathetic excuses being imparted!

Absolutely James, nothing major but the number of times I've said that I feel a bit unwell so I could get home to play poker and watch 865 is crazy! Best bluff I've ever done!

How annoying on a scale of 1 - 10 was Phil Hellmuth when he came into the commentary area at the wsop. He didn't seem to understand heads up play or just how the young players were playing in general.

And why does my garph look like this

and Coxys' look like this for Sky tournies?!

After the show, I had to pick up all the names he'd dropped in the booth!

And to answer the question about your tournament graph: it's variance, innit?

Hellmuth ruined that webcast he was so tilting.

Cheong seems v cool, such an online player, doesn't care about the beats takes them in his stride, same with 6 bet bluff shoving and running into a hand !

It's like a 3 million dorrar 70/30..... mbn to hold that!

That hand was uber-sick.  Based on the specific circumstances (enormity of event, prize money, stacks, etc.) Surely even YOU think his 6b shove with A7o was poor?

    Hi James and Trevor

I have qualified for Primo via the semi tonight so will be playing my first higher entry Primo

Double booking myself - I'm way too organised although I missed SPT Luton last year as I was flying home from Vegas, bad planning on my part!

    POOR?

how could you ever describe that as poor? you watched all the previous hands where his 4 bets took it down?!?

I don't mind it one bit, I knew once he was called and winced that he had Ax and that's 30% equity. that's not that little!! he has tonnes of fold equity. it's rather hard to get dealt QQ+!!!

surely all the things you listed make it a good shove?

the ICM affects of Raceners stack meant something like that was bound to happen between the two of them because they were both trying to leverage massive fold equity.

Yes, his four-bets were getting through, so why didn't alarm bells start ringing when JD five-bet?  And was he not at all suspicious about the size of the five-bet?  JD literally clicked it back!

Fold equity?  Question: what percentage of JD's 5b range is he folding to a shove?  <5% imo!

    Hi James. Sky+ ftw!!!

Great move wrong time. simple! - Cheong was the best player at the final table imo

with the amount of 4 betting going on he can easily 5 bet fold. both their 3 and 4 bet ranges were FOS it's really not that far fetched for the 5/6 bets to be going in light when they both know how each other are playing.
for him to 5 bet get in QQ he must feel their both super light there.

the sizing itself of 3/4 and 5 bets doesn't have to be really big at all when it is such a large proportion of their stacks. As Cheong said straight away "if you dont click it back I don't have room to jam" so Duhammel played it well. they are both playing to win as can be seen from that hand. Cody won EPT deuaville 5 bet jamming T4o into KK and getting there, if you watch high stakes donkies online it's full of 4/5 betting tis not a surprise to see it in the big comps.

probably my best ever bet was at Romford dogs. Special bet over two races.  picked three dogs to come first second and third  10p ew.  original layout 60p Won the first leg so i had one choice of three dogs in the right order. I got it right paid out 147 pounds a lot of money in 1979.

    Romford dogs ftw!!

I had some good wins at Walthamstow dogs on trifectas when I didn't really know what they were. often would just bet on the dogs doing the biggest dump on the pre race walk round!
