edited February 2011 in Poker Chat
Im no longer going to be playing on sky anymore. I dunno, i just cant take the beats, dont know if im a bad player or just running bad, but ive had months of it. So i think its best to say bye.

I will return to the forums, but not the tables. I will be playing live and else where but not here. It may well but i just suck, but i need to know that.

I wish you all the best.

    Don't do it, Don!

You're a good player and we know it. You've got to be - you beat me in that heads-up thingy. Mind you, I am due two more rematches with you to win the series... *cough*

Seriously, lots of people come out say "I don't know if I can take the beats, this game is brutal, etc." Variance is a part of the swings, we all know this. One thing people tend to nudge to the back of their mind as they stare at their shoes wantonly is:

If you're getting bad beats, you're getting your money in good. This means you are doing your part as well as you can.

I actually take a bit of heart from bad beats, and that's nothing to do with the fact I am a poker player with a penchant for 7-high. It means I did something right and the cards decided it wasn't my time. Fate I can't change, but it does work out in the long run. Which is why you need to be around for the long run if you're going to beat variance.... Bad beats do hurt but that's a one hand thing. Play many hands, work your way through them and show variance you're good enough to see it through AND make money at the game, imo.

Good players ought to stay and play the game as long as possible to give them the best chance of overriding variance. Bad players ought to leave or cold deck DOHHHHHHH. Either way Don, you and poker should have a chat and sort it out.

Now, hurry up and give me my rematch.

    Great news!

That is two Scots who have 'left' this week. Now, if only if you can persuade some of the Welsh to leave with you.....everything will be crusty :))

On a serious note Don, PLEASE just take a break for how ever long you need mate and I hope to see you back here sooner than later.

Don as I posted on Jaegers thread take a break and come back when you've had a bit of time away from the tables bud (we can't lose 2 TKPers in a week)

seriously it would be a shame to lose you,and bad-beats do happen all over just ask anyone who played the SnG's at the end of The Newcastle SPT event.

if you want to m8 you can always contact me on FB

    Oi!!

Don, take a break m8 from online. I am doing that at the moment. Have been getting it in good just "the gods" have decided they are against me (I hope!), otherwise I am just playing bad LOL!!

You seem to have lost the enjoyment of it online at the moment which makes it seem worse. Take a break, get things in perspective and, hopefully, come back refreshed.

    just seen this lol.

At the min i play anywhere i ccan get a game, usually its just a text with a location and offer of a lift. Had my mate staking me for 20% for a while but made a few bob and went out of that deal. As a result i seem to get text less, might go back to that.

The other times is usually a venture up to Edinburgh;s Maybury or Circus Casinos. Not much goes on here really so nearest games. Only other games i find easy is the games at the end of the league games im tournament director for.

Most are pretty easy money in fairness.

Don, have a break and then you came come back in a different frame of mind...just don't press the RED button ok!

don, you def do NOT suck at this game, sounds like you're on a bad run that's all, have a break mate and come back, a player of your standard will soon have a change of fortune. i felt exactly like you are feeling now about 6 or 7 weeks ago, i lost 3/4 of my bankroll on a dreadful run (ask young_gun as i was moaning to him about it at the time) but runs like that don't last for ever, one nice cash and you'll get your confidence back and start enjoying the game again. hope you change your mind!

The correlation between experiencing bad beats and playing poker is direct........

Sky, St***, F*P, etc etc all run 'poker'. It's the same game in a casino or on tut internet, beats happen in all formats, you just get dealt more hands in some formats than others.

If you need to know if you suck try and work out why you are doing things and why it could be wrong. Unless you are constantly striving to improve your game wont keep getting better and in this game where there is just so much to learn you need to always be improving.

Considering you made vids and posted alot you should deffo have the motivation/skills to improve your game.

Good ruck in whatever you decide to do.

    Hi beaneh

I stated on a later post i was making profit live. Just not on online.

Im going to assess my live game in comparassion to my online game as i know i make harder called live based on tells. Obviously this is an advantage live that ill never get online.

What im trying to say, is i need time to re-assess myself. As you said i have the motivation to improve, both DOHHHHH and Pod1 have said that i maybe assess too much, i let one bad or good desision affect my thinking for a little while thinking it over.

live = poker but slower than online

both have beats, both have silly play, both have luck involved with your results.

you shouldn't be basing your happyness with your game on your results but more on how you play.

I can play well ( in my own mind ldo) for a whole session and finish down money, you have to be able to completely shrug it off and be confident in what you were doing.

its overdue by about a month, they phoned me 6 times today asking for money, with the same reply lol. Its there when i get paid lol, but not until then lol. Thats about 2 weeks away lol.

Also thanks Beaneh for your comments, dunno why i lose confidence after a bad beat. Inparticular after a string. Im not tilting the way i used to. But, i think someone said this, and its how i get at times, "Whats the point I'm going to get outdrawn anyways"

    Does that make sense?
  • edited February 2011
Big shame to see you going Donny, your game seemed to have been coming on very well. One of the problems though with playing good is you get more beats as your getting it in with the best hand and you can't always win, basically it's just variance and you should win overall in the end.

Hope its just a break but good luck with the live stuff. :)
