Coming soon…

A new tournament league running every Tuesday in late May / June.

Full details will be revealed in the coming days and weeks, but here’s the essential info:

* Players will need to pre-register to take part in the league.

* Registration will be open from Saturday 14th to Saturday 21st May.

* The league begins on Tuesday 24th May and runs until Tuesday 28th June.

* For the first five weeks, all players will enter two events randomly selected from the evening tournament schedule (7pm-10pm).

* These tournaments could be No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha or Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo.

* Each tournament will cost no more than £5.50 to enter.

* That’s a total of ten tournaments over five weeks, costing a grand total of <£55.

* Six players will win prizes and advance to the “play-offs” – to be held in the sixth and final week.

If you have any immediate questions about the SKY REGIONAL LEAGUE, please ask.  And remember: registration opens on the forum this weekend!

    Good question, Rob.

For the first five weeks, you'll be competing against players from your "region."

So, for example, we'll find out who's the best tournament poker player in the north ;)

Don't get too excited!  Wales will be part of the 'East'* - which will also include a fair chunk lot of England and, possibly, a bit of Scotland.

    * Before you say anything, someone's already spotted my appalling error!

Will there be sufficient tournaments each Tuesday so that you can play only Holdem and no Omaha?

  • edited May 2011

Sonded good until the Omaha Hi-lo bit

With so few ppl playing Omaha,  nevermind hi-lo on this site I think it  may of attracted more ppl by sticking with  NLHE, as the PL Omaha will put some ppl off and the hi-lo will put even more off

I do like the idea of mixing the 2 discsiplines as its not been done before on here but the hi-lo is a different game altogethor and one that hardly anyone plays on this site

I personally  think your trying to throw to many ideas into one competition

Ideally I would have liked to see a regional NLHE comp and a seperate comp for NLHE + Pl Omaha mixed togethor to get an all round champ

I will randomly select two tournaments each week.  All league participants will be expected to play both tournaments.

Over the course of the first five weeks of the league, I envisage a balance of 60% NLHE (including Deep Stacks, Bounty Hunters & Turbos), 20% PLO and 20% PLO8.

The mixing of disciplines HAS been done before.  And successfully!

Both the OmaHartigan League and the recent All-Rounders' League attracted a lot of players who'd never played PLO or PLO8 before.

But they were willing to give it a go - because the tournament buy-ins were low, the prizes up for grabs were awesome and they knew it would be fun.

However, I understand if people don't want to enter this league, because they don't like Omaha, or have an irrational fear of the unknown.

Actually James I think this "Regional" thing is a bit unfair.

As everyone knows all the best, of everything, comes from Scotland... including Poker Players ;o)

Just checked my diary.  Good news is that I play only three evenings a week, Tuesday is one of those, Hurrah.  Checked diary for any special events on Tuesdays throughout qualifying and, Hurrah, I have no commitments.  Checked diary for the date of the Final on Tuesday 29 June and, Bum, my girlfriend has a significant birthday dinner party for 30 people.  Bum.

Options are (a) enter the competition with complete pessimism of not reaching finals, (b) take netbook to the restaurant and play the final, or (c) get a new girlfriend in July.

Give me a minute to decide.

    Good question.

It's not compulsory to play every tournament.  But, if you fail to enter an event, you will automatically be ranked last.

So, for example, if the tournament has 79 runners, you will be regarded as the 80th place finisher.

It's short for Pot Limit Omaha Eight or Better - the alternative name for Hi-Lo!

    (d) Realise that the 29th June is a Wednesday, meaning you're free to participate in the play-offs the previous day!

And before you ask: none of the tournaments will be rebuys!

Sorry, Alan - can't play tonight.  I'm working in Madrid.  In fact, I need to switch my focus back to the EPT right now...

Please don't tell my producer that I've spent the afternoon chatting to you lot on the forum :)

I wasn,t having a go -I was just giving an honest opinion

As for the all-rounders league, was this a similar thing ( sign up before it started ) as i think i tried to play it but couldn,t ?

Also I don,t have "an irrational fear of the unknown". Its just a game i,ve tried but don,t think i,m any good at  and think my time is best spent on learning other things and couldn,t find the traffic to practise it if i wanted to. (as I only play on sky now )

As a result i don,t think there is any point in entering something I know i,m no good at and would probably lose at

Unfornately you can,t expect everyone to love every idea you come up with and I was merely trying to point out something I wasn,t  to keen on in a competition which in the main  is a good idea

Thought i had seen something similar to this b4.

My idea for a new tourney would be a Regional League which would consist of 6 MTTs running on Friday nights.  The Leagues would be ,lets say, North west, North East, Scotland and Wales,Midlands,South East and South West.
Each league to run for 6 weeks with the best 4 results counting for league position and the top 6 from each region   go forward to a regional final in week 7.
Regional finals would be 6 STT with the 6 winners going through to the Grand Final in week 8.The Grand final        would therefore be made up of the top player from each region and the winner would be crowned Sky NATional CHampion, or SNACH.
This setup may , i think, appeal to players from all bankroll levels and would certainly have a lively rail at the finals.
I would propose a small buy in for the league games of say 2 quid with the prizes in the finals being donated by Sky who i am sure could come up with something to make it worth winning.
ps. sorry about the title but best i could come up with and i am open to suggestion

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM  am i due a belated prize for this.?????????????
