James Thanks for the offer but I'll stick to the rules as you make them up rather than be an exception. I do love these forum leagues and thank you for the time you taking to run this thing, and to SP for the prizes.

+2. This is frankly farcical. And that is quite aside from the fact that you appear to be trying to take a straightforward game and turn it into astrophysics.
i think that you overlook the fact that james announced before the league commenced that there would be a twist kept secret until after the first round of games. james has tried to ensure that interest in the SRL is sustained as long as possible and the twist is engineered to do this.

LOL! You should be a politician! ''engineered?'' - ''manipulate, massage, hatch, dream up, plot, scheme, wangle, fix'' and many other adjectives i would deem more appropriate than ''engineered'' lol. A twist is one thing, this is a wholesale fabrication of the scores for 40% of the competition involving more than a third of the players, saying that i will defer further judgement until i see the end result of these ''twists'' but i do really believe this could end in tears for some very unhappy bunnies at the end of the competition. I would like to add, this maybe a fun competition but it involves a possible outlay of £55 which is over 10% of mine and many others bankroll, so i do believe that it must be fair to all not just to some.If by some miracle i did actually win the thing, i probably wouldn't take up the prize anyway, the logistics of getting from N Ireland can be expensive so i would give my place to someone else but i still enjoy the taking part. To finish off i would like to say that i enjoyed the 1st night and hope to enjoy all the rest of the nights, these are just my opinions to the ''twist'' it doesn't mean i'm right, or others are wrong, its just an opinion and i feel that people should be able to voice their concerns if they feel uneasy with this scenario.
hi looneytoons... my post was actually in response to the "farcical" comment of RogueCell. i think you and i think similarly.
on the point in question, personally i would have preferred not to have any twist. nevertheless the twist means that 8 people will now continue rather than abandoning the league. the downside is that there are one or two who, scored badly and didn't have their name pulled from the hat, are miffed. i only they were more sporting and more selfless.

If this was the case i wouldn't mind! In fact it's 32 out of a total of 81 players not 8, thats why i feel its too much!!

i see your point. however, i think that fewer than half the number of entrants will remain playing at the end of week 4 and effectively all will have had the opportunity to swap. we shall see. one thing is certain though and that is it all is really unimportant. good luck matey.

4:02AM is far too late/early to be up playing poker - i'm off for a round of golf now:)
Why the "twist?" Simple answer: to do something different and introduce an element of fun to the proceedings. In a home game, I like to straddle, implement the seven-deuce rule and play the 'show one' game. Why? Because it mixes things up and stops the game from becoming too serious. This is a forum competition based on the results of a series of (high variance) poker tournaments. Therefore, I saw no issue with bringing in a further element of chance.
Now, while several players have taken the "twist" in the spirit in which it was intended, I appreciate not everyone feels the same way - and loonytoons is right when he says "people should be able to voice their concerns if they feel uneasy with this scenario." I'm happy to continue answering questions and engage in sensible debate on the subject.
However, I want to make one thing absolutely clear: I have no sinister agenda here - and deeply resent any suggestion that I am "rigging" or "fixing" results. What possible motivation would I have for making the weekly Free Agency draw anything but completely random?
Let me address another common misconception: every single SRL entrant is entitled to apply for a trade; this is an opportunity that's open to every single player. Obviously, not every trade request will be successful. This week, four players in the North applied for two trade spots. So, they had a 50-50 chance of winning - the equivalent of racing with a pocket pair against two over-cards. (I'm using this metaphor to highlight the fact that a huge element of chance decided the pre-existing scores!)
Finally, in a moment of characteristic self-deprication, can I point out that I'll probably play terribad poker over the next three weeks and have disastrous scores - so no-one will probably want to trade finishing positions with me! To quote loonytoons once again, can I please suggest that you "defer judgement" until the end?
So to clarify please James, If players have applied for a trade and have been unsuccessful, they can not apply again during the next few weeks of these League games?
If this is the case, can you please put a notation in the League tables indicating this so it becomes clearer for all. Thank you.

Yes, Alan - you are correct!
Thank you for the suggestion. In future, I will indicate who has traded and who is still able to trade when I publish the league tables.
In Response to Re: SRL: Introducing "Free Agency" : But you have deliberately avoided the most pressing concerns that the players have that are taking part in this competition - When you and your offspring do the ''random draw'' out of your hat, can we trust your 2 year old daughter not to cheat? (like father like daughter as the saying goes) ))) Posted by loonytoons
Forgive me for being humourless, but I don't like it when the word "cheat" is thrown around - even in jest.

I think this post refers to myself as i made a mistake in posting something without thinking first
I was in a bit of a mood, although its no excuse and would have apologised earlier if it hadn,t been for my 1 week forum suspension, which looking back on I fully deserved and was probably lucky not to get a permanent ban
I apologise for my remarks, which were out of order and hopefully no hard feelings

The draw is completely random. 'Nuff said
loony...your words (in the guise of humour) are childishly provocative, pretty shabby, breathtakingly crass and very sad ;-)))))))
you didn't find my words funny then? you are not being humourless, surely not? :-))))))))))))
