SKY POKER TEAM!

edited June 2011 in Poker Chat
I have just been playing £1/2 heads up omaha where i lost about £200. Someone i play with luckily came to the table and informed me the person i was playing was a sky poker pro. I was disgusted there was nothing to highlight this his in his avatar etc as i clearly would not have sat with him if i had known.

Disgusted,

Jake. Sky Poker Team and a Sky Poker Pro are 2 different things.

There are many Pro's on here that make a living out of Poker so they are regarded as Pro's

Do you mean Sky Poker Team as the guys you see on TV Channel 865?

Pro's do not show anything on their Avatar but most of the presenters do.

Surely at this level quite a few players are pro players.

If he's not played any players at this level before how is he going to know how good they are until he's played them ?

    Jake,

You've not been cheated.  You're playing a game (HU PLO) at a level (£1/£2) where there aren't many mugs.  Most of the people sitting at these tables will be proficient players - and many of them will be pros.

For the record, Gliterbabe is both a professional player and a member of Team Sky Poker.  No offence to Wayne, or any other member of TSP, but I don't think the latter detail is important. There are many talented pros on this site who aren't (currently) on the TSP roster.

no its not all my roll (not that it has anything to do with you) i just think it should be obvious who these players are. i would never have sat with him/her otherwise.

Take a seat in any poker game (live or on-line) and you have no way of knowing which of the players are skilled professionals.  Until you start playing against them!

No-one wears a hat or selects an avatar that says, "I'm a professional."

Granted, there's an argument that TSP members should be identified* (outside of THIS page).  But, as I mentioned in my earlier post, many excellent pro players are not members of the team.

    * For marketing purposes!

    I think so...

Imagine his reaction if he'd found out he'd been playing heads-up against a member of Team 51!!!

But if he played Tikay or Richard Orford H/U, he would defo win!! (because them two always finish 2nd!)  :))

Some advice for you Jake (take it or leave it, your choice)

You are obv smarting a bit after losing. This is a trait in most of us. Try to learn from your mistakes, and do some research before sitting at a table H/U with an 'unknown' opponent. There are various ways you can do this. Checking the poker league/watching 865/sharkscope etc.

I hope you stay and enjoy Sky Poker and run well in future.
