lol, just annoys me that people that obviously dont need that kind of edge have to do it.........i guess its a reflection on todays society..................and i shouldnt let it tilt me tbh......................class and manners maketh the man......or woman................especially when going deep in the main event.........but hey-ho, I guess poker is still a game played in the gutter lol

I dunno who ur on about jaeger, but i think fair enough they may be winning but try and gain every edge you can imo

i used to do it a bit to gain a little edge

I am with YG here - I don't blame him, though I concede your irritation xx

I'm with Jaeger here, I was brought up to respect people.

Banter is fine if you know the other person well enough and it's light hearted, but I will never use the chat to get under somebodies skin.

trying to tilt players in the chat box is fine imo, up to you if it effects you, ignore em and play your own game, as long as nothing personal is written then anything else is fine, freedom of speech and all that!

i wouldn't do it against a forum reg that i play a lot but against some random unknown then why not? if they make an awful call etc.....tell them, it's not a team game, if what i say makes them tilt then thats good

    SIMPLE play on MINI view,

also if he does tilt you then he has succeeded,so you are failing into his trap....

cmon boys poker is a mans game...:)

don't even need to play in mini just turn chat off.

I personally have no respect for these players, most i don't think they do it purposely to tilt people but just to act with there massive ego that they most likely have. Occasionally i say TY when winning a big pot but only if i know the guy on a respected level.

Ok i can see your side of view here, but surely as everyones getting better at NLH you have to take any edge you can get? they arent being unfair or what not but if you think you can easily tilt someone why not?

I would do it live vs random or online it doesn't make a difference anything to get easier money/chips, its not disrespectful its part of the game IMO

As DJ/Tobes pointed out we're not children if you get tilted learn to deal with it

    Hi

We all know Sky Poker's stance on abuse in the chatbox, they take it very seriously, we DO NOT have to put up with it, please report ANY ABUSE to Custmer Care.

    ............................................+1

Look everyone,...........once you lose any respect for fellow players and etiquette goes out the window, you really are taking out the fun side of playing and once the fun has gone, I for one will be damned or keen to jump back on a table.

Trying to get an edge on someone by being abusive on here is not the way to go........get an edge by fairer means.
One of the major reasons people join up on here is for the community spirit, lets not destroy it....keep it civil and fun.........rant over......have a gd day.

I hate TY from winner of big pot, winds me up a treat. Sometimes the simpliest rub down is the most effective

I think basically, there are 2 schools of thought on this

    1. Play with respect, class and dignity

    2. Do anything to try get an edge ( perhaps not having enough faith in one's own game?)

I think billyboots summed it up perfectly

And Yup, we're not children..............so why behave like one????

Good luck all at the tables, if i aint chatty its coz chat is off
  • edited June 2011
lol perhaps they dont have enough faith, its a game about edges so if you can get one take it

i dont think ive done of late but still would if i think it would work

Hi Young Gun, I understand where you are coming from, but I disagree pretty strongly with this point of view.

If you think putting any time  / effort into falling out with people in chatboxes is going to gain you 'an edge' then GL with that.

As for  doing it live..... why would you want to go to all of  the effort to play a live  game of poker, and then start having spats with people across the table.
Live poker is pretty slow, but this is compensated for by the opportunity to have a bit of banter with a group of like minded people.

And  you are right, we are not children..... hence why we shouldn't be having petty arguments over a game of cards.

NOT THE CASE IN MY EXPERIENCE

Im laid back and dont take much notice normally but have reported 1 player only because they passed the mark big time to me and fellow players i contacted live help copied and pasted the convo gave times ,tables , hands everything and this player still continues to roam the tables with foul mouth 3 months on so i gave up
  • edited June 2011
Lol i dont mean falling out with people live or online i mean putting someone on tilt it doesn't mean the same thing in my books

in a live game if you think you can tilt someone would you not do it? its not a strong opinion of mine tbf and i used to do it dont think ive done of late but its not personall or fall out with people over it just little things you can do to make the game easier :P

tilting somone is not the same as being rude or offensive. there are many many things you can put in a chat box that can tilt people, even showing a few bluffs is anough to send some people over the edge. if i can tilt someone then so be it but resorting to personal attacks is soooooo uncouth!

I think we have to make the difference betwen BANTER and ABUSE,i would never condone the use of abuse ,racially, religiously,or for any other matter, but a bit of banter can make the table more interesting...

a few times i have seen the chatbox come up with expletives, after a loose call, and sometimes they get very personal, indeed on one occassion i think it went along the lines of'i hope u drop dead of cancer' now to me, i just laugh it off,but to others who are less thick skinned, might get upset....

at the end of the day, if you feel that the language or subject crossed the line, you should report it to customer care...they seem to be top notch and very fair..

i had the "i hope u die" message not long after i started about 2 years ago - and believe me it doesn't tilt but it puts you off playing poker. I switched the chat off for months after that but thankfully most of the people i play are really respectful - they have got to be ther only ones worth taking any notice of - the abusers will just become worse players

+1, banter is a big part of the game.........as long as people don't cross the line and become abusive then anything else is fine, if people don't like the banter they can turn their chat off
  • edited June 2011
hmmmmm, I guess maybe some people dont know difference between banter and abuse..............

Personally, if someone I've never spoken with or met starts getting foul-mouthed insulting and rude then i certainly dont find that as "banter"

oh well, each to their own i suppose in todays "FU-society" :(

When I was playing the other night player to my right took a draft of chips off another and promptly said TY LOL. A few words were exchanged and other player seemed a tad upset. Maybe I shouldn't have intervened but felt I had to point out he had won the hand so there was no need to be ungracious about it. In my book the only thing worse than a bad loser is a bad winner.

couldn't agree more with you..........really shows how low some folk can get...........and usually find these guys are the first to moan and bleat when they are down on their luck and looking for someone to give a sympathetic ear.........hmmmm,...........hard to feel sorry for them me thinks !

Who wants to turn their chat box off if it's banter.............my understanding of banter is having a playful and light hearted chat with like minded ppl whether it's ppl on the table or ppl who are railing.
Some of the best fun times have been when ppl have railed on final tables etc.
This business about having the option to turn the chat box off has been covered in the past and it has been said many times b4, why should players be deprived of enjoying a major part of the package which is playing and having a chat if they feel they wish to.
If players cross the line ...it should be them that should be deprived of their chat box and not the innocent parties.........why should they miss out when they've done nowt wrong.
I get really peeved off when people try and defend or give some lame excuse for abusing other players........trying to get an edge etc. etc............poppycock, pathetic.........abuse is exactly that........rude, intimidating and spiteful and it's not funny when you are the recepient................banter on the other hand is good......and it's fun, whether you are giving it or on the receiving end or when it's in a group.
I'm not making this case for myself (I can dish it out with the best of them).........this is for those who really do get upset and or annoyed to the point where they give up or feel they don't want to play here anymore....and believe me ....it has happened and it ain't nice.
So to those who like to dish it out, I beg of you to stop and think twice b4 you do...........you're not big in fact you're pathetic.
