Meet the Manager - the SPT Manager.

edited November 2009 in The Sky Poker Tour

Running the SPT is a big undertaking, it was shared between a bunch of us last year, but this time, Sky Poker have appointed a Tour Manager, who's sole responsibility will be to run the Tour, & act as a bridge, or liasion man, between Players, Venues, & Sky Poker.

All the Tour Detail has been put together by this guy, in line with his Brief from Sky Poker.

His name is Richard Prew, & he's one of the most remarkable men I've ever met.

He works with me elsewhere, as CEO of a big Website, also as a Moderator there, & he's the Media Director of APAT, as well as being one of the cornerstones of APAT.

He, & myself, (always with others), have probably set up, run, & Managed, more Live Poker Events than any person in the UK. He's good, trust me.

He once won, I think, Mastermind, (specialist subject, The Novels of Ian Rankin), & he is about to re-enter Mastermind (& knowing him, win again), this time his specialiist subject being - wait for it - British Football Stadia Architecture, 1900 - 1950. I kid you not.

He's a football geek. Do NOT ask him as football trivia question - he knows the answer. He's visited all bar 3 of the English League Grounds, & spends hours at each one studying the Stadium Architecture, noting down the details in a little book. Well, a big book. A very big book.

He supports Leicester City (no, really!) & is a Director, I think, of Non-League Bedford Town. He also supports Leicester Rugby Club, & is an NFL geek. Well, he's an everything geek to tell the truth.

He has two little boys & a little girl. Eldest Son Ryan is a goalkeeper of great promise, & has been a Member of the Arsenal Academy for 2 years now. His other son plays rugby to a high standard. Rich never misses a match for either son, & he drives all over the UK  to support, from the touchline, his kids.

Pre his early retirement (in his thirties I think) from business, he was a Fund Manager in the City, controlling a Fund with assets of £9 billion or somesuch.

He's a quite extraordinary man, & I'm very proud to count him as a friend.

He currently plays a bit on Sky Poker under his alias, which I don't plan to publicise. In the next 24 hours, the Sky Suits will give him a Forum Alias to reflect his SPT Management, so he can Post on the Threads & help answer your questions. If he continues to play on Sky Poker he will do so on one of those aliases or the other - NOT both, as that would seem like Multi-Accounting.

But there's more.

Rich's alias elsewhere is "TightEnd", shortened by his mates to "Tighty". And he invented a poker format known as "Tighty Sit & Go's".

Let me tell you this. If you like a bit of fun poker, nag Rich to run a few Tighty SNG's after each Leg. You will go home with your sides aching from laughter. Tighty SNG's are the nuts.  Nobody else can run a Tighty SNG - only Tighty.

Let the fun commence.

So there, you've met the Manager now, & he'll be at every Leg, manning the Welcome Desk, doing the Live Update, thissing & thatting. And running, I hope, a few Tighty SNG's.

You'll know when you've watched or played a Tighty SNG what fun poker is.

Welcome aboard Rich.

He will have his Manager Alias very shortly - within 24 hours - so he'll be here as soon as thats set up.

Give him a special Sky Poker welcome when he arrives, please. He's a bit special, trust me.

Don't worry on that score - Rich Prew is like a sponge when it comes to work. I've rarel.y met a man in my life who manages to get through so much work. Or a bigger geek, to be honest.

There was a Picture Quiz running on another site last week, "Guess where this was".

32 seconds later, Rich had identified the players in the photo - all of them - the ground, the date, the score, the attendance, & the wind direction.

The photo was of a football match that took place in......1972.

    Hardcore geek, him.

I promise, it's true. (Except the wind direction). I could prove it if Links were permitted, but you'll have to trust me.

Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you all, and the Tour ahead.

p.s Some of the points tikay made about me are actually true.

First person to ask me trivia questions is disqualified from the Tour I am afraid. Once I start, I find it tricky to stop. Trivia is banned.

    Arsenal v Leeds

    Wembley

Frank McLintock, Pat Jennings, Allan Clarke, Mick Jones and I think (right hand side, facing us) Storey? Unsure about Storey.

    72 cup final? Leeds 1-0?

Yes, but the keeper is Geoff Barnett.

    thank you

Barnett is quite a tough spot really.

Year after Bob Wilson, and pre Jennings as it turns out

Is the far right player Peter Storey? That's a guess.

I'm 90% sure that it's Peter Storey - I don't know if Tikay can enlighten us.

Another point of interest for the younger ones.
Arsenal's match day 12 players consisted of 10 Englishmen and 2 Scotsmen.
Leeds were slightly more exotic as they included an Irishman, Johnny Giles and a Welshman, Mick Bates.

And how many Englishmen turned out for Arsenal this weekend?

    How times have changed, eh?

Fingersd crossed, in a few years time, the Arsenal Goalie will be Rich's son, Ryan, who is with the Arsenal Academy already. Doing very well too, I gather.

NFL geek, and a pic of my hero "Sniffer Clark" ( what a fantastic diving header in that very game, and Jonesy getting stretchered off.) Memories, my first trip to Wembley at 8 years old.
This could be the best thread i've ever read, welcome Rich, hope you enjoy this fine community.

Hi Rich and welcome aboard......the last time I heard Tikay gush about anything as much as he did in your introduction.....it had 3 engines, 12 carriages and steam coming out of at least 2 holes....could be wrong but is it Peter Simpson in photo?

Welcome Rich, hope to make it to the live events!!
Which NFL team do you support?
Are you a fan of NFL architecture or just footy? The new Cowboys stadium is out of this world!

Hello sir. That is a very unfortunate question for you to ask, if I may say so. I can bore for Britian on this one

I am a Dallas Cowboys fan, since the early 1980s. Been to three matches at the old Texas Stadium over the years and yes the new stadium looks sensational

I am a big NFL geek. BIG.

Did you know (well of course you don't) that three years ago an American NFL website called Football outsiders ran a competition where readers had to pick all 32 first round draft picks and to which teams in the correct order

I entered, and got 29 out of 32 correct. The website announced "and the winner is Richard Prew of London, England"

How to put 16,000 website members on tilt in one fell swoop!
  • edited October 2009
That's incredibly impressive if I may say so.
What went wrong with the other three?
Career ending injury or jail sentence between the times you made your selection and the actual draft?

    Groan.

You've started him off now, he'll never shut up.

We should have an "Ask Tighty" Table at the SPT!

PS - "Tighty"? Yes, his Forum Alias elsewhere is "TightEnd". It's some sort of football position, I'm led to understand.
