this was a BH and villain is a thinking/winning player whose game i respect [and a team-mate too]
on the turn i knew if i bet we would be getting stacks in, but after villain limp/called then xraised i wasn't sure that i wanted to. so when checked to on the turn is the check behind ok?
.
when villain checks the river i'm pretty sure i'm good so i go for a small value bet, it's still enough to fold out his air so i can remain consistant when i bluff. but i was considering just jamming. stacks are set up nicely and i can represent more bluffs and missed draws by just sticking it in and i can take a head prize if he heroes me with his bluff catchers. thoughts?

I think you played it right on the river. He's not calling a shove on the river with such a week Ace. although loads would on this site. With the reraise on the flop he may have your Ten outkicked but thats unlikely as he flat called pre. When he checked the turn I actually had him on a weak Ace before I saw his hand so I would have value bet too. One point I would like to ask about is you say you can represent more bluffs and missed draws if you shove the river. Why would you need to do that if you think you have the best hand? Surely you would only need to do that if you thought you were behind? I'm still very much a novice when it comes to poker theory. I follow a simple rule I heard once. If you think your in front bet, if you think your behind fold.
the reason it mattters is it looks bluffier and so is likely to be called nearly as often as the smaller bet size i chose.
even if he calls the bigger bet only a % of the time, the fact i get his whole stack [and a bounty] could make it more profitable. the reason it looks bluffier is because it actually is bluffier. with a bigger bet i can bundle more bluffs into my range. though that's a little beyond where i am at 'in game' atm.
but a jam kinda looks more like a missed club draw that's pressuring a weak holding, in fact a lot of the time it will be. as i say i can bluff small here and get folds against his air, but just wondering if jamming gets enough calls from bluff catchers to be even more profitable.

levels Dagg.
He thinks that I think that he thinks that I think type of thing.
If we think about what our hand looks like to our opponent it will help us decide what kind of hands we can and can't value bet, and also how to size the bet optimally.......etc etc etc.

Ok I get it now. I remember Ryan Spittles referring to different levels of poker thinking eg Level 1 I have this what does my oppo have and Level 2 what does my oppo think I have etc. I think I'm still between 1 and 2 but hey ho it works for me.
