a better term to use would have been beginner or just lower stakes reg.
one of the reasons i actually decided to play poker was to see if i could put my great maths skill to good use.
i think myelf their is 3 types of player their is the rec who plays for fun- if i was playing purely for fun i would go onto age of empires myself as that is a great game i like
their is a pro who has got all the skills-i'm certainly miles away from being one of these
the 3rd one i think could be described as a learner, someone who keeps wanting to improve his game and that's what i'm attempting to do.
The term "recreational" player.
We are for the most part on Sky, recreational players.
People think "recreational" player = losing player. This isn't true.
85-90% of players are recreational. 10/15% are "professional" out of these maybe only 2/3% make significant amounts of money.
Amongst the top 10/15% of recreational players they are winning players, whether that is £100 a month or £1000.
A "pro" imo would be someone who makes their living entirely from playing poker and from no other sources.
I never seen the Show, if they were saying a "rec" player won big £££ versus world no1 Morman, this wasn't to insult you - it was meant to be a positive.
Bear in mind that the TV show's main goal is to get new people to sign up to the site and spend money on the site to make more money for Sky.
What they would have been saying was to try and make it out like a fairy story, a normal player can take on the best in the world and do very well.
Both you and Clare (roguecell) did amazing in getting through such a tough field of opponents to finish 2nd and 3rd.

coolerA situation in which a player holds a second best hand so powerful considering the circumstances that they are destined to lose the maximum with it no matter how they play it. Examples of this would be K-K running into A-A pre-flop, a king-high flush losing to an ace-high flush on an unpaired board with only three of the suit present, or a nut full house losing to quads when both players have pocket pairs.
AA into A3.......not even even tepid, never mind cooler lol.

I would have made the same play myself with 11BB and the BB coming round, so i'm never complaing when the guy gets a bit lucky. it's poker and we just have to take it on the chin and move on. In fact I even remember saying "Nice hand" in the chat box, although my brain probably imploded at the same time

That is just a "bad Beat" sir
If he shoves with KK there and your holding AA and you win, then that is a cooler, cause there's only one hand beating him and you have it. The fact that he only has a small PP here and shoves the lot over the line pre-flop and outdraws your AA makes it a bad beat.
There are 8 other PP's out there that could be beating him pre-flop....it's not even close.
