What WOULD they say if this happened on Sky Poker?

edited October 2009 in Poker Chat

This happened yesterday at Brighton in a £500 Tournament.

I played for 9 hours, so, being Live, would have seen maybe 250 hands. In that time I also saw Quads four times, 2 straight flushes, & house over house 4 times.

And not ONE player threw a hissy fit, complained, moaned, threw a strop, said they were never coming back, "enough is enough", or said "bye".

wow..thats impressive...good point tho Tikay..too many people who moan about bad beats etc on here...bad beats are part of poker..could happen in a game with your mates, at the local casino..or on ANY other poker site..hate it when idiots think there is some kind of conspiracy against them on here

It must be a fix. The pocket A's held up, Doesn't happen here.
The toys would be flying out off the pram in every dirrection.
Saw Quads twice in one sit n go the other day.
Any two cards can win in this wonderful game.

    My prediction below :-)

Part 1 players would all start separate threads on the genral forum moaning about being rigged.
Part 2 the sky forum mods would then transfer over to area 51.
Part 3 the players would then be giving each other a virtual *high 5* stating they knew the site was rigged.
Part 4 us experienced players who use proper bankroll managment and understand variance will post that to them.

Live poker is rigged i tells ya ;)

Seriously though, that's colder than the arctic circle on a cold winter's day. As Austin Powers would say, "that's very ouch baby"

Nice hand. Flopped set over set over set is just one of those things that happen every once in a while.  I'm off to a cash game, good luck and hope to play with you guys again.  It was a pleasure.

Lol, I didn't see the aces in the top left corner until the third time I looked at it and was wondering what the fuss was all about.

    Pretty sick.

I've never believed that there is anything funny going on, but people DO have seriously bad beats and moreso online when there are more hands to play per hour.

The last three MTTs I've gone out:
    1. Anjie had KK against my aces and hit a K on the river.
    2. Unknown villain needed to hit a 6 on the river and hit it.
    3. Another villain had J7o, I had K9, flop was K92 rainbow - turn and river were 8 and T.

All three were terrible beats. In only one of them could I say the villain played well or anywhere near properly (that was Anjie who did play it well and had me covered). After playing on this site for about four years, I've posted two consecutive months of losses for the first time.

I'm not moaning 'fix' or anything like that, I'm just on a dreadful run. At times like this, which happen to all of us, people do get emotive. It's too dismissive to label everyone who lets off a bit of steam as a 'whinger'.

Ok, its not that relevant to the thread, but darn it I'm gonna say it anyway as I'm feeling quite giddy.  I have that deck of cards shown in the photo! Use them for my home games, very nice they are too.

Generally good post but a lot of people's idea of "letting off steam" is to scream "it's fixed" or "I'm never playing on this site again". That's not very realistic or mature. It also doesn't generally seem to stop them playing again the next night.

Four years is VERY impressive since the site only started in February 2007, I believe. ;-)

Given three starting hands with pocket pairs, the odds of 3 people flopping a set are:

    6/46 * 4/45 * 2/44 = 0.05% or 1897 to 1.

Not as big odds as you might think, I guess.

I must say to this point, I am always upset when losing with one of the hands mentioned before. While playing in a double your money sit and go today i lost with a full house 2 hands in a row. The first time walking into the quads. I thought to myself its my own fault for not folding when the quads where an obvious challenge.

The second time was enough to knock me out, The stack just bigger than me called my all in with 55 which was meant as a scare bet, he had 6 10. Was confused at the call and though well i must be around a 50% chance. flop came 992 so i was still ahead now with two pair. Turn card came with my opponent hitting his 6 and the other 9 on the river. Again i just thought it was Karma.

As many times as i will lose with these hands i will always live to survive another day, weather as it be on Sky poker, Live Tournament or Live cash game i will eventually hit my own cards and win with these hands and beat someone with that hand. Such as yesterday hitting my quad 5's to beat the 9 over 5 full house.

Clearly that Tourney you were at was fixed TK. The Dealer was in on it and you had a super-user playing the Aces. come on it is obvious!

Far be it for me to query the King of Stats, & in  fact, you may well be right.

    But....

The odds you quote are for 3 players each holding PP to each flop a Set. So you have - I think - calculated the Set odds.

The odds I'd be interested to know are not quite the same thing.

What would be the odds for three players each to be dealt a PP, AND to each flop a Set. Which is an entirely different thing.

I heard on another Forum it was in the region of 41,000-1.

    Sounds more like it!

I was watching High Stakes Poker (or one of those US shows) and I think it was Antonious and Lederer and they both held pocket Aces.. after the hand, which eventually was a split pot. Patrick declared that he, in all his time playing, had never been up against another pair of pocket aces. (Most of time Aces v Aces would go to showdown I assume). So that is another rare combination I presume?!

once in the pub I got Kings v. Kings, and I nearly folded on the river to a big bet (i am that tight lol)
