"Away" at the poker table

Surely this option should be disabled at a final table.  Just played a satelitte, im short stacked with 3 left, and 2nd place player goes away, leaving myself at a massive disadvantage

Yeah if you can't beat an away player something is wrong with your game.

Having said that, how do you know the player didn't have connection problems ?

It is their money, they may play as they wish, with an away player, it is easy to steal the blinds, just raise them, they will just fold automatically, incedentally, was the timer bar green?, or, Red?, if it was red, they had disconnected.

sorry, the player went "away" with me and top stack left, i had 5 bb against 40bb, the "away" player didnt want to risk continuing to play against the big stack.

TBH like Acebarry said, the player can do what they want really. Even if they stayed they probably wouldn't have played another hand.

Its easy to just say ' steal their blinds' BUT you do in fact HAVE to be in the correct position on the table to do this xx

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Even if he doesn't technically put himself 'away' that doesn't stop him folding every single hand he gets. Wouldn't you prefer him to be away and you be able to take his blinds with no risk rather than not knowing he's away?

Going away is just the same as folding every hand. if you take it off as an altrenative the guy can just fold, fold fold
and as previous poster says it gives you an advantage you shove your only getin 1 caller max instead of 2.

i think once you get to a final table, play should be paused while a sky representative travels to each persons house and makes sure each person is there and playing all hands they think they should play

serious response, hoping 2 big stacks collide when youhave 5bb is not really the way to go about qualifying unless the 2 big stacks are both idiots who have no clue how to play


1 player being away gives you much better odds to be shoving and stealing the blinds knowing only one hand is available to call you instead of 2

If I was him I'd do the opposite, and go all in everytime you were on the big blind no matter what I was holding.

If you shoved, I would call with whatever I was holding, and check it to the end with the big stack, giving you even less chance of surviving.

One problem I have experienced with people using the 'away' feature is they can sit back in even after the action has started which to me is wrong. Recently put in a min raise in the small blind to take the big blind of a player who was supposedly away but he sat back in just after I had made this action and re-raised me. In most casinos in live play if you are not at the table when your hand is dealt it is deemed to be dead. I think this is a weakness in Sky's software. Has this happened to anyone else? What do other people think?

I think, when he has only 5BB left, no matter what position he is in, it is either, push or fold, I am pushing with any PP, any Ace, even as low as Q9.

Just shove your chips in the middle everytime that player is in the blinds.

Tbh with 5BB's left three handed he should be shoving his chips in the middle every hand.
