Master Cash with Hartigan, Harris & Pickleman (***OFFICIAL THREAD***)

edited October 2011 in Poker Chat
Hello, everybody! Trevor and I will be on your screens at 9pm for three hours of Master Cash, followed by the sixty-minute thrill-ride that is Top of the Pots. And our guest this evening on channel 865 is...

Alex 'Pickleman' Rousso

Alex is a sponsored pro, coach, columnist and blogger. He recently wrote an interesting article about the challenges facing the on-line poker industry. If you have a question for Alex, e-mail it to skyopen@bskyb.com or post it in this forum thread.

Also, feel free to weigh in on tonight's hot topics...

UKOPS
How are you going to prepare for the series? How many events do you intend to play? Which tournament do you expect to perform best in? What event(s) would you add to a future version of the series?

Sporting triumphs
It seems everyone's a bit down today, because England didn't do very well in some rugby tournament or other. So, we're going to turn that frown upside down by focusing on GREAT moments in sporting history. What do you think is the greatest sporting achievement of all time?

greatest sporting acheivement of all time,,has to be phil taylor 15 times world darts champion with more to come. no player will ever get close to it. i know some people will say darts is not a sport but remember he was runner up for SPORTS personality of the year.

    Totally agree with this.

The man himself is awesome and surely no other person has ever or will ever dominate one sport the way he has done in darts over the last 20 years, not even the likes of tiger woods or tony mccoy could ever imagine being right at the top of their game for so long.

Also his 2 nine darters on the same night is probably something that wont be done again unless the man himself does it.

hi rich and trevor i was watching a replay the other day, when you brought up tha subject of free gifts at petrol stations you remarked about the tigers tail, then trevor made the comment that if anybody had a corgi car in good condition from that period they may be worth a packet. i thought hang on climbed into the loft and guess what trev, i,ve got the full set plus spares they have never been opened. until you mentioned it i had forgot about them so thanks mate. i will now check out there value

    Hi again guys.

As far as the UKOPS goes i think its a massive thumbs up to sky for putting this on and out of all of the events i am most looking forward to playing the bounty hunter, these are really fun tourneys to play at the best of times but a £100 buyin one sounds fantastic :)

My approach to the series will be to play all of the events and i am hoping that if i put enough volume in on the cash tables this month that my cash for points bonus will pay for it all but even if it dosnt i will be either trying to sat in or if all else fails will be buying in direct because these really are unmissable imo.

Also question for Alex: What 3 things would you say are the most common leaks you see the average cash game player making ?

well i know what`s mr trev harris great sporting triumph is and that`s some team called arsenal beat beating liverpool on last game off season at anfield and they had to win 2-0 for which they did to win old first division.

Regarding sporting triumphs, I'd like to recognise the person who I think has had the single greatest impact on their Sport.  Ty Cobb more or less single-handedly turned baseball from an American pastime or hobby into the National sport.  Not exactly a nice person, the over aggressive and uncompromising element he introduced into the game (sharpening his studs to take out basemen when he slid, learning how to play left handed so he had a slight edge getting to first base) gave him dozens of batting records, some of which I believe still stand today.  If people want to know more I'd recommend the film 'Cobb' staring Tommy Lee Jones.

I will try to satellite into the Omaha event, but the rebuy/add-on structure will make it hard for players with smaller bankrolls to compete. I will definitely rail as many events as I can and follow the series on channel 865.

Totally agree, I was going to say the same.

And to those who say darts isn't a sport.. well I'll get back to you right after I get my breath back. Just walked up a stair. Gimme a moment to have five pints and a pie during recovery......   Right, yes it's a sport! It's a sport for oval people (C) Dohhhhhhh, but it's definitely a sport. And I have a figure for it. So watch out.

Hand request from the 0.25/0.50 level -  Hand ID 422948428

Is it wrong that I put my opponent on his exact hand on the flop and still wanted to get it in?  Am I a little too gambley?

I'd consider flatting getting those odds tommy. Not sure how you put him solely on QQ on that board
  • edited October 2011
Why did I think my opponent had top set?  Don't want to give too much away about my reads on the actual player but looking back.

4x open and call of a big raise OOP puts his range as 88 to QQ, AK, maybe AQ.

Now to the flop, click back check raise on a board wetter than Jacques Cousteau?  Representing extreme strength against strength?  Hello top set.  Maybe could have been middle set as well I guess.  But yes if he had shown me the set of queens before I bet I would still get it in.  Gotta give action to get action.

I normally do the right thing and put people on a bucket of hands but it just felt like that was the only one.  However you realise if I posted it in the clinic everyone will at least say set ;)

and shop my hand while having my equity destroyed if I miss the turn?  Nahh, spin the wheel.

For sporting acheivements, tonight Brendan Dolan has hit the first ever double in double out 9 dart finish in the world grand prix in Ireland.  My personal fav is of course Liverpool coming back from 3-0 down to win the 2005 Champions league.

Just to remind Trev, Edd Moses won 122 consecutive races, a bit more impressive then the 70 odd you gave him credit for ;)

    Hi guys.

    Quick hand request. 423002668

The hand itself is nothing special but it just seems to be a situation i get myself into alot and dont always get out of.

Just wondering on this sort of a flop am i better checking because if getting called aswell as them having top pair etc and maybe not folding regardless they could also be calling with straight draws and once they call the flop bet you dont know where you are.

Carl Lewis in 84 Olympics and Lance Armstrong come to mind in terms of individual achievements. It's difficult to pick one occasion however, as most sporting triumphs are the culmination of immense sacrifice, hard work and ability in that chosen field.

I think a great sporting acheivement was Arnold Schwarzenegger being undefeated in all bodybuilding competitions from 1970 - 1975 (when he retired). Then when he had to put a bit of weight on when he filmed Conan so he decided he might aswell come out of retirement in 1980 for one more Mr Olympia and won it again...

Arnold is only 3rd all time for Olympia wins, and, between 1970 and 1975, he entered around 1 or 2 compeitions per year and there were very shallow fields so it's not exactly comparable to Ronnie Coleman (name sound familiar :D ), Haney or Yates beating far more competitive fields.

Of course it's a sport James!

Hey, I'm a bodybuilder and former junior world champion in powerlifting! The training aspect of bodybuilding is incredibly demanding, and the requirement to constantly eat the right foods requires great self-discipline. The competitive setting is relatively subjective, but the training and work behind the physique puts most other sports to shame.

As an aside, the 1980 Olympia was a fix, the sound of the audience booing was muted in the footage of the competition for the Pumping Iron sequel, it was awarded on reputation rather than merit.
