Can I send the same private message to multiple recipients or do I have to do it individually? (like I was told by CS)

Yes you can. You'll need to use either friend search or your friends list, both of which show when you're composing a PM. Then when you're composing your PM  Message you just click the 'tick box' next to whoever in your friends list (and however many) you want and they will populate the 'send to' box. Or use friend search and add from there.

As Noseybonk says yes you can (upto a max of 50 at a time)
