Sunday's live show with James, Carlo & Jon Spinks (***OFFICIAL SHOW THREAD***)

edited March 2012 in Poker Chat
Hello - and Happy Mother's Day to all the mums in the Sky Poker community!

From 7pm
, you'll be able to watch five hours of live poker on channel 865, with special guest Jon Spinks in the studio from 8pm:

Jon's a Brighton-based pro who's been on the international tournament circuit for a couple of years. His recent results include two WSOP final table appearances, a win in the High Roller event at UKIPT Edinburgh and a 24th place finish in EPT San Remo.

Suffice to say, Mr Spinks is an authority on MTT strategy. So, your questions for Jon should be e-mailed to
skyopen@bskyb.com, tweeted using #SkyPokerTV or posted in this thread.

Between
8pm and midnight, Jon will analyse Carlo's play (!), there's a Sky Poker School lesson on playing mid pocket pairs in DYMs (please contribute your thoughts), plus highlights from this evening's Viva Las Vegas Semi and the £12.5k Primo.

Two other topics to think about...

Last night's three-way chop at EPT Madrid was met with revulsion from some corners of the poker world. How do you feel about deals in major tournaments? Should they be allowed? If so, should the details be kept private?

And, inspired by an "incident" at the EPT Madrid party (details to follow), have you ever made a promise, pledge or bet that you instantly regretted and then tried desperately to get out of?!?

See you at 7pm.

    (HAND REQUEST)

Hi guys. I'd like it if you could have a look at this hand. Did i play these small pocket pairs well?

So, after watching a previous sky poker school on small pocket pairs, when i found myself with 66 in position, i thought i'd try my luck. The hand played out fairly standard, with the pre-flop aggressor, being me, betting out on each street with my opponent check-calling. Then, the river came down 6 spades, giving me the set, but also completing any Flush draws. I bet 2/3 pot, and then for the first time in the hand my opponent Check-Raised, to 2x pot. I couldn't decide weather he had a decent hand or just air. In the end i decided to move all-in and my opponent called.

Did i play my small pocket pair correctly?
Should i have laid down my hand on the river after my opponent Check-Raised me?

    Thanks.
    -Josh.

    Evening gents

I have asked questions before about final table deals and Carlos always says he would do a deal!

While a lot of people will say they would never deal if you are on a final table and the stack sizes are shallow I can understand why people would want to deal and lock in more profit rather than potentially flip for large amounts of money. Also part of it must depend on your circumstances and what the sums envolve mean to you. On another site I recently saw a deal where someone did a deal that got them more than they would have got for first so you should never say you would never do a deal.

On the same site a deal was done in a large sunday tournament 8 handed when there were a few short stacks. If I was a larger stack there I would have been tempted to hold out for a couple more to drop out. (Although saying this and doing it are different things!)

I do however think the deal should be private.

Final table deals.  Why is poker the only sport(?) where "deals" are done?  e.g. would it/could it be done in darts, snooker?  Maybe it is and we never get to hear about it?  Personally, I'm against it UNLESS I get to the FT of the WSOP and then I MIGHT have a rethink?  ;-)

    Hi Josh,

Great message, we'd love to show the hand but need to know that it was on a TV table.  Please could you identify the table for us and we'll do our best to show it live this evening.

    Thanks,
    The Sky Poker TV Team

    Poker's NOT a sport!

Deals way more likely to be done in poker as the luck factor is sooooo much more than in sports

    1) Tough one. With the money, not to mention luck, involved you definitely should be able to make a deal. But if poker's being advertised as a product then making a deal dulls it. Imagine Rory and Tiger splitting The Masters with two holes to play. Tough one.

    2) Not yet. But I've sat'd into Primo for £2.64. If I win it I'll bare naked wrestle my little pony Carlo Citrone (nice one Orford) on the sun-bed of his choice. lol.

    Definition of SPORT:
"An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively"

As it as already been defined that "Poker" is a game of Luck/Chance as in many other forms of betting, then poker cannot be defined as a "Sport"

Personally I would hate to think I would do a deal in poker as i'm usually playing  to win and my competitive side to "Win" is much greater than thinking about the value i'm going to win. (If that makes Sense)

Good Luck with the show guys - Carlo is Tantastic as usual :)
