Should the DTD tables be TV tables?

edited July 2012 in Poker Chat
Ok I posted this on the DTD facebook thread a while back and got some support so would like to now bring the suggestion here.

There are very few low stake tv tables. I think that a vast amount of the Monday night DTD players also comment to the channel alot for the TV competitions and general questions to guests and analysts.

I feel the DTD is also one of the better standard low stake tournaments and one that could help us all learn (is there actually a TV deepstack?). The best players have a stronger edge in deeper structures, as it helps level out variance because we have more BB (hense much of the debate about sitting with the max in cash).

Basically im suggesting that the DTD tournaments

7.15 Deepstack Monday nights
7.45 Deepstack Monday nights
8.30 Take on Tikay Monday Nights

are made tv tables.

Im not expecting an hour of a show dedicated to them. But often you hear the presenters requesting hand IDs for stuff like the poker clinic and poker school. If people where able to post interesting hands from these events i think it would help, and also get the lower stake tournament players some involvement with the show, in terms of hand discussion.

I've added a poll for this issue. Comments also welcomed.

Yes would be good to see DTD on tv even if its just once a month??
  • edited July 2012
It could make it a massiver version of the massive DTD that we currently already have!!!

    MASSIVE

I would imagine SKY wouldn't like to promote those deepstack tournaments in favour of oither faster style tournaments, because of the slow structure.

would definately love to see this happen even highlights from it.

I think that is an excellent idea, for all the reasons stated in the original post

Good to see the support people thank you all.

Can i just state aswell i didnt suggest this from personal gain i think ive played the DTD 2-3 times tops in 2012. I just feel that you guys deserve some telly time. Most of you have very good fundementals to poker and dont play cash or main events meaning any tele time you might get has to be in the mini ME's.

Not got a clue, i posted on my own accord. however if chris or michael disagree ill accept that. as stated i dont play the dtd alot but thought it would be good for the general masses of people that do.

My personal thoughts are it would only enhance the whole Monday night experience, and anything that brings more  players to Forum DTD could only be a good thing

That's a very curious statement, FlyingDagg... I'm intrigued.

I think it's a fair idea. I'm not sure absolutely everyone would love having their play exposed on the television but I'm sure that most would be happy with it. Another benefit would be the automatic addition of TommyD to the field every week. lol

I don't know if Sky would like this, though. I think a big part of their business model is to use the TV channel to lure people into playing the main events and the mastercash tables, which are much more profitable for them than £1.10 tournaments. The big-wigs may have reservations about cooling interest in main event satellites by making such low buy-in TV tables. (Though there are already the mini-mains which are TV tournaments, I think)

Perhaps it would be more realistic for the DTD tables to be TV tournies on a monthly basis.

Maybe I'm talking nonsense. I would like to see it happen.

Anything that gives low level players on SKY a bit of TV exposure is all good for them and for SKY imo

    +1

It's not a technology issue, I've sent tonnes of hands in for review from non TV tables, in the old studio and the new one, so it's as simple as getting this thread recognised and for someone to put the TV icon in the lobby.

The hard bit will be actually getting some coverage on the show though.

Most TV tables don't get much/any coverage anyway.

To be fair, I don't even think they need to commit to showing any of the tournaments without requests. They can put a TV icon on it, and never voluntarily show any hands, but what it does mean, is that when you get them asking for hand IDs for the Poker School etc, it isn't only people who play the MEs etc who are allowed to send hands in.

    Yeah simple workaround that.

Dohhhh in the past i requested many non-tv table hands that got shown but i believe they changed that so by entering a game with a TV table icon you had to agree that your play would be shown if they wished. If you enter other tournaments (about them all tbh) your hitting i disagree.

For Borin Loner - I posted on the Facebook thread what I didnt want to say on here. I just thought it was best if this thread was kept as positive as possible. ( And I have voted in favour)

I think this would be great.

Mainly for the reasons Lambert outlined.

    it ain't going to happen

Would be very intresting to see.I don't think some of the regs would like to see it though. As it might involve team members actually playing hands against each other.

Couldn't agree less. As someone said to me "as far as i`m concerned it does not matter if it`s a team member or other team we are all in to win it". First and foremost it's an individual competition. The team element is secondary.

i think it is a fab idea man

You should have had the pleasure of my table on Monday. Two regs who normally play much higher levels where on my table. The players in question where sitting button to BB for close to 2hours and where invovled in one hand the whole time.I always taught it was an individual game but that has changed my mind.

    Yes - I have thoughts.
You are well off the mark. Team players don't play as a team, they play as individuals. I will happily take any player in my team out of a tourny if I feel I have the best hand.

Also. it is beneficial if I can win the tourny as the team benefits overall, so all i'm concerned about is accumulating chips no matter who the player is. It serves no purpose to fold to a team mate as in the long run the team would suffer bad results in the league.

If you are not part of a team, I don't expect you will understand how the dynamics work, but if you ever want to try out your theory then join TPT and you will be re-educated as to how the teams work. You may also improve your game, which is also important to us and our team members.

    Good luck at the tables.

Also if it were televised, you would see just how far off the mark you are.
