There are 42 days between now and 5th September There are currently 60 people registered... assuming you get 2 seats every single night (which isn't happening) that's an extra 84 runners which takes it up to 144 runners for a 250 runner event... Say you take that up to 160 runners to take into account various celeb invites etc that Sky give, that still falls 90 runners short of the cap which is obviously pretty terrible. You can draw 2 conclusions from this... 1) Direct buy-ins WILL happen... 2) A better satellite structure is needed. Posted by Lambert180
the sats will prob get more popular closer to the event
also the SPT @ DTD will be VERY popular with the outside poker community and DTD can handle around 350 runners easily. There is zero chance that the 250 won't be met. Poker players are generally lazy and will wait and wait and wait until the last minute.
1/10 sats aren't to everyones taste. my advice to anyone who doesn't like the 1 in 10s would be is to use cash/DYMs or an MTT bink as a sat, and save the buy in for when direct buy in is opened....or grind a lot more and save up your C4Ps etc.
I agree with you Waller. I'm happy to have a go at getting to an SPT but i'm not chucking too much money at a small chance. I'd rather pay a lesser amount but have to go through an etra round. It keeps me interested and would involve the whole community which surely is the aim.
In Response to Re: SPT sats : this is a very good valid point to be fair, as you can just play a normal game and if you win it you have the buy in for that more expensive sat and generaly this is what i do. If ive had a good day then i will treat myself to a bigger buy in sat, although saying that if your on a bad run and losing money daily then this dosnt give you any chance at all to play in the spt. I was lucky they did the one off freeroll otherwise i woulda had no chance at playing in one for a while. And im all for the underdog winning stuff and not just the big dogs. Posted by Dazler
Hi Dazler Many congrats by the way. A really cracking effort.. "a good day"? What might that be? I agree with the idea of a 'treat yourself' but still think smaller fee/more rounds is the way to go.

Of course it will fill via direct BI but I thought the idea was to fill the majority of the SPT final with the Sky community with the DTD regs making up minority, not the other way round?

Beat me to it Irene. I'm sure most events could easily fill up at DTD regardless of whether a single Sky player turned up or not, but that's not the point is it.
In Response to Re: SPT sats : I think you are missing the point.. the 1:10 sats do not generate enough players to fill a 150 player event without opening it up to direct bi (Luton, Cardiff etc.. ) with that in mind filling a 250+ player event is going to be neigh impossible using this method alone.. Also, using your logic - if a £110 SPT event is 1:5, the £220 is 1:10 then surely the £330 should be 1:15???? Dont know about you but I personally dont like those apples!! Its all very well and good allowing bigger BR's to buy in direct but it kind of goes against getting as many of the community players there as possible don't you think? Keep the 1:10 for people like you Mo who can afford and prefer the 1:10 method or direct BI but at least allow those who dont a different option.. even if it is only one day per week!! xx Posted by TRIP5
I certainly can't afford to buy-in direct to these events but have done for the last two events(£220) only because I bubbled the sat the night before, which was 1 buy-in short and the extra £22 to buy-in direct was worth not having to bother with the tedium of satellite play. I really don't think £8 is expensive (it's twice my current bankroll lol) for a shot at the semi final and instead of going out Friday night, i'll be using the money I would have spent on booze to trying to qualify. You are not going to fill a £330 buy-in tourney with Sky players alone and this level of buy-in attracts a lot of outside interest, so I don't think it'll struggle to make it's numbers. As Ryan says, poker players are lazy and only sign up at the last(players being turned away at the WSOP because they hadn't bothered to register springs to mind).Sky does run live events that are more aimed at the Sky community(£110 buy-ins) but as this is the final it is always going to be looking at the outside poker community for players and the bigger buy-in does this. If Sky want to run sats into the £8 or make a seperate sat structure that is 1/5 the whole way through fair enough. But personally, I prefer only having to play 2 sats to qualify and £8 for that chance isn't high roller money.

ty profman a good day is every day im a glass half full kinda guy, but yes its just what i do, i agree the sats are too expensive imo for players with small or smallish bankrolls so its just the option i use unless it changes, and yes i agree smaller fee/more rounds is the way to go
As we speak, a proposed new satellite structure for the SPT Grand Final is being designed, & if approved by the big suit blokes, will be introduced as & from Monday. I will advise before then, as soon as I hear.
It will be, sort of, similar to the Viva Las Vegas satellites.
Daily micro satellites will feed in to a nightly quarter-final (1 in 5), and that in turn will feed into a weekly (Sunday evening) Semi-Final, with a 1 in 5 structure.
That will give us five Semi-Finals, assuming it gets the green light, being Sundays August 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th, & September 2nd.
INITIALLY it will be on a trial basis if it goes ahead - probably just next week - but if it works, it'll stay.
It is likely that Directs will be available from around August 6th.
Enough seats for the regulars, the "Community"?
Absolutely. If we need to up capacity at the Venue, we can do so easily, they have plenty of caspacity, & we have left the door open to increase if need be.
Seats not going fast enough, it will not fill?
Whilst not complacent, we currently have no worries on that score. August will be quiet Online (Olympics, School Jollies, Weather), but it wil pick up in the week or 10 days before the Event. On every SPT Grand Final we have ever held, & many of the regular SPT's, demand remains low until near the date, & then everyone wants a seat, & we usually end up having to say "no".
"Outsiders" winning or buying Seats via Directs?
We have to adrress several criteria with SPT. First & foremost, our loyal regulars & Community Members always get first dibs, but we also need to atteact new players to the Site, & SPT is one of the means used for that.
If you agree with all of that, I'll take the credit. If you don't, I'll blame the Suits, or SPT Rich. Seems reasonable, yes?
Love the new satellite structure Tony, wasn't too keen on the current structure so was going to just buy in direct, but will definitely give the new ones a try next week, assuming they are approved.
Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the Sky crew at Nottingham.
Steve
PS a little confused that you no longer blame Orford when it all goes wrong:)
Hi Tikay. I'm not understanding what we have done here (I may be tired) but, does this now mean that anyone who is unavailable to play on Sunday Nights, is now no longer able to qualify for SPT Final online?

Some people are never happy. To enable as many people as possible to play this, they have to have prelim and 1/4 final on the same night. Running these in time for the nightly semi's isn't going to happen as the prelims will start too early for most people to play them, defeating the object of having them. Therefore, a weekly semi for these tourneys has been selected. If you can't play the semi on the Sunday then you have to qualify via the 1/10 sats.

If the 1 in 10 sats are still running nightly, then i'm happy. It may be the way I read it, but it just sounded like there was only going to be 1 semi-final per week.

Ok, perhaps i shouldn't be so grumpy, Night shifts and getting up to look after two pink money sponges doesn't help me disengage grumpy mode!!
I have no idea if the new & old systems will run in parallel, though somehow I doubt that. Lets wait & see.
If they DO drop the existing system to just run the alternative (as Posted today) remember that initially it will only be for one week, subject to popularity, & also that I'm reasonably sure they could run at least one week of both systems.
Bear in mind, though, that the existing system has not proven very popular overall, as evidenced by this Thread. Tough ask to tick everyone's box, in truth, as I'm sure you know.
The thing with liquidity is that it is always better to concentrate it rather than dilute it.
We shall see.
Hope you are well, & that your Orfordable is still going well.

An alternative Satellite structure to the SPT Grand Final will be made known tomorrow, I'll Post the details in the morning.
I note a seat that was won in a Satellite has been offered for sale.
Potential buyers should note the SPT T & C's which are here .....
Specifically, this...(my enboldenment)
All seats won through satellites are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for another leg of the tour.
I have no idea what line the Business would take here, but buyers should be aware - right of transfer is clearly NOT automatic.
Isn't it past your bedtime....or still jet-lagged?
If only we could dispense with sleep, eh?

Hi.
Busy busy today.......

More when I hear it.
A few other matters raised in the thread.....
Direct Buy-Ins.
It is likely that Directs will be available from around August 6th.

See you at the Grand Final - I hope!
Playing 3 x 1/5 tourneys to qualify gives you odds of 1/125 to qualify
Playing 2x 1/10 tourneys to qualify gives you odds of 1/100 to qualify.
just saying.
