    Hi all,

I've noticed a few new posters on the forum recently, and thought it would be a great idea to have a little 'get to know you' thread where people could introduce themselves. Feel free to give whatever details you'd like, for example... name, how long you've been playing, what got you started, what stakes you like to play, what games you like to play etc etc.

I'm not new here but I'll start off by doing a little bit of info about me to get the ball rolling and would really appreciate if all the forum posters took a few minutes out to just write a few words about themselves. Feel free to use my 'template' for your own.

Fingers crossed we get enough posters on here to keep this thread on the first page or two of GPC!

My name is Paul and I'm 25, I've been playing since I was around 13-14 with friends just chucking in £1 each and winner takes all. I start playing properly online when I was around 19 and have played on and off since then.

I joined Sky around 2009 and since then have played about every possible format you could do during that time, DYMs, HU SnGs (Hypers and Turbos), Cash, MTTs, the lot. I am a very low stakes player.

My best moment in poker so far has to be cashing at SPT Cardiff in 2012, getting £375 for 12th which was only my 2nd attempt at playing live (not counting home games and the like).

Great idea Lambo, maybe not just new comers but some older posters should post.  There is an old introduce yourself thread but it's pretty much been dormant for over a year I think.  Just like Superman, time for a reboot.

Yeah I had a vague memory of something similar to this when I first started using the forum many moons ago, but thought it would be so hard to find, might as well just start afresh. And yeah I definitely want current members to post.

    Hi I'm Tommy

Self confessed Sci Fi Geek and Comic book fanboy.  I've been on SkyPoker since nearly the very start.  Why?  Well it's cool to see yourself on T.V.

I've been playing poker for about a decade now, played on most sites you've heard of and some you wouldn't have.  I've had some lovely highlights here, and hope to have many more.  On SkyPoker I play pretty much everything, lately I have been mostly playing +£55 DYMs and NL200 cash.

Whoever you are, feel free to say hello to me at a SPT, I've normally there somewhere near the bar.

I never really introduced myself when I was a new poster, so may as well now.

When not on this forum, I go by the name of Will.  I am a student at Brunel University and for most of the summer I have been volunteering for a few Cultural Olympiad events and trying (and so far failing) to produce/write/direct a no budget film which has recently taken a turn to incorporate some Paralympians, but enough about that.

I started playing poker with my mates when I was 16.  I joined Sky pretty much as soon as I was old enough to, which must have been 2009.  That seems like a long time ago now.

I tried following Lambert's template but I can't think of a best moment in poker.  Although, I can say that I've played with a former Fulham and Northen Ireland manager, as well as Sam Trickett.

Hi my name is john wallace. i joined sky about 6 months ago. I joined when i started watching sky poker on tv everynight and really liked the fact they were teaching you profitable poker and not just selling the product. the forum is another reason for joining 99% of the people on here will help your poker and not harm it.

I have been playing poker for around 4 years self taught after watching it on tv late at night as it was only thing on. before i joined sky i was mainly a stt (sit and go) mtt (multi table tournaments) player but after reading alot of books i convinced myself to transfer to cash and now im mainly a cash game player.

im about to start a new challenge that you can keep upto date with especially if you new player maybe we could progress together and you could post your progress aswell

    Welcome to all new members.

I'm a 45yo milkman from Devon, father of three. Didn't play my first hand of poker until I was 40yo, and that was a play money game on Facebook. Fell in love with the game, dipped my toes into the waters of real-money poker here on Sky in November 2009. Haven't looked back since.

    Hi, I'm Steve.

I am 57 years old and have been a recreational poker player for around 10 years, playing exclusively on Sky almost since the beginning  I play MTT's (Multi-table tournies), usually bounty hunters or deep stack games, normally at around the £5 or £10 level.

For the last 2 years or so I have helped out as a forum moderator.

I studied there myself Will, stayed in the Faraday Halls.  Hope you are having a good time, and ehm studying hard:)

    I'm Nick, aka Stretch83,

I have recently started playing again, after a 8 month break.  The reason being I had a massive heater when I first started, I basically didn't even know hand rankings and would win every race and even finished first in a few low buy in tournies.  I spun a half decent role from being blisfully unaware of how bad I was playing and then I learnt about the downside of variance.  My decent role declined quickly and I withdrew the remaining cash scared of the downswing that I experienced.

I have since learnt more about BRM, Variance, read and studied online articles, blogs and books and am back to give Poker another go.

You will find me at the low stakes DYM tables, trying to slowly build a workable role so I can branch out and study other areas of the game.

I have never played live, but have made a promise to myself that I will attend at least one of the SPT events next season, even if it is to just rail, have a few beers and meet a few of the online players.

Nice one to Lambert for starting the thread!

See you on the tables :)

Great idea for a thread Lambert :)

    Hi all, I'm Dave.

Known as Sky_Dave on the forum, I work for Sky Poker which is handy as I love the game! Come from a poker journalism background and have been playing since 2006. I tend to play according to those around me - I have no problem being an uber-nit if people around me are going mental! - and my poker heros are Phil Galfond and Phil Ivey. Favourite moments from poker journalism: dropping toast on the floor at The Vic with Mike Matusow and having Jennifer Tilly introduce herself before making me a cup of tea.

Away from poker, I enjoy music and am a huge Radiohead and Elbow fan. I also like a spot of Call of Duty, although it makes me realise that I'm getting too old - my reaction times on that game are shocking!! :) I still dabble with chess too, which was my game before poker.

    I'm DIED.

I'm 25, and have been playing poker for 18 months.

I was sat one night and saw an advert for poker on TV, and realised i didn't even know the rules. I googled the rules and thought it sounded fun, so immediately started playing on FB. Typical story - won a few pots and thought i was Ivey. I've always been a Sky Broadband and TV subscriber so naturally the first site i chose to deposit on was Sky. I continue to play on Sky because of the impending updates which will hopefully bring it in line with a certain PKR*'s site and it's in £'s. Not to mention the games are the softest on the net.

My greatest poker moment is winning a $900 pot playing way above my limits on another site. Worst was then donking it off half an hour later.

My piece of poker advice is to study the game for yourself. It's ok people saying 'do this, do that'. You learn best by trial and error. Sometimes people can overthink things (see every post in the Clinic) and i think it's probably better to play ABC most of the time, but not enough so a decent opponent will suss you out.
It's a simple game - try to make your opponent put his money in the pot when you think you have the best hand, and try to avoid putting money in the pot when you don't. Simples.

I'm Jit (Random username was my University log in username), 28 years old, self employed from NW London. Been playing on the site just over a year which is roughly how long I've been playing poker. Mainly play live cash 1-2 now but started off with MTTs at venues across London. On sky I stick to micro buy in STTs and the occasional MTT usually if I can satellite in.

Hi, my name is Graeme, most of my mates call me Snedds

I am 40 years old and have been playing since Feb 2008.  It all started by my mate suggesting a home game for 6 of us, we hadn't played poker or even knew the rules before that, we had a brill time to the point that we still have a home game first Friday of every month.  I'd recommend them to anyone.

My first year playing poker on the net was trying out various sites taking advantage of the introductory bonuses whilst trying to learn the game.  I joined Sky Poker a year later and have remained here ever since.  I still play on the other sites odd times when Sky is doing essential maintenance, but prefer to stay here.  There are so many ways on Sky Poker to learn and improve your game, from the Poker Clinic on the Forum or from the commentary / hand analysis on the TV.  Even if you just have the show playing in the background sometimes an interesting hand pops up that can come in usefull for later on.  Also, if you're lucky enough to have your own hand shown, then you can see whether the experts advise whether you played it well or how you could play it better or get more value.

I have played through the levels of stt's and mtt's.  I started playing £0.60 and £1.15 dym's and then moved through to playing every level including £220.  The same with mtt's I used to stick to £5.75 BH's but since building up a decent bankroll always try and play the biggest and best games possible.  My most profitable game was the £220 Roller, so it makes sense to get involved in the biggest games.  My biggest win was taking down the first UKOPS game of the first UKOPS series which was a £20k BH winning over £5.6k.

I always play in full view rather than mini view, so say Hi, I am more than happy to help anybody that asks.

Good luck at the tables and run good

    Snedds

HI, I'm Padraig - Pad for short ;-)  I started playing about 18 mths ago after seeing my dads mates playing poker at his funeral in Ireland and realising that although he had played all his life, I never had.  Kinda regret now not getting involved when I was growing up as it might have brought us closer.   I joined Sky after seeing Tikay on 865 when I returned home.  The community here was awesome in helping/advising/berating me when I first started as I knew nothing about poker. (Sometimes I feel I still don't!)  I love the game now and wish I had more time to play/study. I've realised I have a LOT to learn BUT I'm gonna have great fun doing it! I joined Team51 about a year ago and they have been inspirational as have ALL the top players on Sky. (It can't be just coincidence that the same names appear regularly at the top of tourneys???)  I play mostly low-level MTT's & DYM's.

    Hey there guys, i'm Andy

I first started playing poker when i was about 7 years old playing 5 card draw with my grandad for matchsticks. (we did progress to playing for pennies) I didn't start playing holdem until around 2008 and first started online (on another poorer site) in late 2009.

I started on sky poker in Jan 2010 and hadn't played anywhere else since :) During the day I play with vitamins and minerals as an assistant manager for the chain Holland and Barrett having left university 2 years ago with a degree in history.

I've started to post in the forum more regularly, but it is the first place I come to each morning to read diaries and certain threads (good or bad) which has arisen over night.

I believe his community does have a fantastic spirt and for the most part is made up of amazing posters, whom are more than happy to help and give advice. I tip my hate to Lambert for starting this thread and I hope to become a more regular poster myself.

I almost only play MTTs at the mirco sakes, especially the mini events, though I do love to sat into mains (when lucky enough) and when I have the time to do it. I enjoy the friday night orfordable deepsake as I believe its one of the best tournaments play in the right spirit. (am yet to see anything negative written) I would love to get involved with a team at some point and def want to play the monday DTD soon too, though monday's normally aren't great for me.

Anyway I've gone on for far too long, so I hope to see you all at the tables, gl and run well (just not against me)

    Andy

I'm Emma, 24 (just had to check that), neurotic geek from rural Oxfordshire.

Used to watch Late Night Poker, thought it was sooo cool.. (lol)

Started playing poker about 5 years ago during a bout of insomnia.

I usually play low DYMs after 10pm. You'll also find me laddering for dear life in the forum DTD.

I have the attention span of a 5 year old - which is why I have never played live.

I,m Paul (mickey to my friends) and like Dazler into my films. I used to laugh off conspiracy theories and think these ppl had nothing better to do , although over the last cpl of years I,ve watched many documenteiries from Zeitgeist to the Twin towers and now take an interest in what the goverments of this world would like us to believe. (ps Got a cpl of interesting videos and ineterviews on FB page if your into that sort of thing and will be adding more soon)

I started playing about 10 years ago (on and off) on another site at FL Holdem until i saw the SKy TV show and wasn,t long before i was converted to Sky , which a lot do to with the forum as wellI,ve started to play more live recently in pubs and Casino ( My local pub has a league going which is mainly for a bit of fun and is always a good laugh)I play recreationally although i have been a constant winner at micro stakes for a cpl of years . I,m just waiting to bink that big one - Had a few wins on here and other sites for a few hundred quid but lost out on a few where i should have done better. I rarely buy into MTT,s over £10 unless i satelite in. Poker has also helped me to stop wasting money on other games such as roulette, Blackjack etc etc as i used to do. After growing up on the Golden Mile in Bpool gambling has always been in my blood i think

My top 3 tips would be BRM , BRM and BRM. U can,t go wrong and will always enjoy the game

Ps - I,m often found in punters corner and am always on the look out for value in any market from reality shows to Presidential elections ( still think Ron Paul should have got the Republican seat over Romney)
