Feedback - MTT Payout Structures

edited September 2012 in Poker Chat

Inspired by another thread, something to get your feedback on please...

Different people like different MTT payout structures in terms of the number of people paid (some like 10%, others 20%) and how it is spread - i.e. 1st gets X%, 2nd gets Y% etc.

So heres a question for you - lets imagine theres a tournament which is a £10 entry, with 100 runners and so generating a £1,000 prize pool - how would you personally pay the money out?

Please show us place by place, so the community can debate it.

Thanks

Regardless of finishing positions, i would pay it Slykllist - £1000, everyone else £0, SIMPLES

I like 10% with the majority of sky fields... but imo you need to make it more balanced.e.g. in the primo the other week 30 got paid, and 30th-11th got VERY similar payments. Think it was like 30th- £68 .. 11th -  £80 or something like that, that's just off the top of my head but it needs improving

The tournament below had 100 players and even though I finished 11th, I made a loss of 18p

100 players and you have to finish in top 10 to make a profit

    £2.20 Entry ( minus 18p down)
    bandit66010£4.04 + 2 League Points
    POKERTREV011£2.02 + 1 League Points
    MACNEIL13012£2.02 + 1 League Points

    Deja_Vu018£2.02 + 1 League Points
    archdigger019£2.02 + 1 League Points
    COBRA207020£2.02 + 1 League Points
Anytime you cash in these type of tournament you should at least make a profit. An 18p loss for finishing 11th out of 101 players is pretty frustrating and a lot of hard work for a minus ROI

100% agree Trev, I'd rather not cash at all than to get paid out and make a loss, it just shouldn't happen.

so thinking 1 in 6, 16 in 100 good compared to the rest

My view on number to be paid is as follows - the first 3 steps mirror current structures:

    Runners

    Number Paid

    30

    5

    50

    8

    80

    10

    120

    12

    160

    16

    200

    20

    250

    25

    300

    30

Then continue in steps of 50

If you make them to top heavy mtt grinders(who think they have an edge) will be happy your average recreational player will find it -ev as they like to cash and will not play you all will loose out.

+1 to SoLacks post.  Pay the top 10%.  Rewards you more for coming first.

What % do they pay for 1st,2nd.........
Last i heard sky paid 1st higher than most and people want more?Which reduces the payout for all the other places.

Just to be awkward I would use Solacks structure with regard to the numbers paid

I would then prefer a payout structure more in line with that suggested by Slykllist
  • edited September 2012
top 10% is good, and don't start the pay out with a min cash - so annoying :(

seriously min cash payouts are just pointless imo

  • edited September 2012
Ahhhhhhh.... links to other poker sites........ Sky are going to pleased they started this thread, lol
  • edited September 2012
I don't think the payout structure needs much changing apart from around the min-cash area (Which is where I seem to spend most my time atm!) for example, 100 runners is normally 20 paid and like others have said 11th - 20th normally make a loss. If they changed it to 15 paid, up to maybe 150 then it can go 20 paid. All the extra moneyz can be split between the min cashers (so a 100 runner tourney it would go onto the 11th - 15th prizes) so they don't make a loss.
  • edited September 2012
It's pretty good as it is when fields are 99 or less, but needs more bands at 100+ imo. The ridiculously small min-cashes crop up when fields are just over 100, or just over 200.

In my opinion it's barmy that 10 get paid if there are 99 entrants, then jumps up to 20 paid if just 1 more player buys in (100 entrants).

I'd suggest more bands from 100+ with around 15% getting paid.

    Say;

    100-119 runners 15 paid
    120-139 runners 18 paid
    140-159 runners 21 paid
    160-199 runners 24 paid

    etc.

    Hi guys

Just to let you know that I have had to delete a couple of posts on here which gave links to other poker sites.  I can understand the reasoning behind the posting but because they were direct links to other sites i'm aftraid they had to go.

I've sent a PM to the poster to let them know

i dont like the fact in some mtts u get ya money bk for cashing always top heavy i know its always been like that but spread out more i like solacks idea
  • edited September 2012
like someone mentioned earlier primo payout structure is pretty bad imo 30-11th is basically £10-20 difference

i would suggest ~10% of field get paid, for 100+ mtt's make payouts jump every 6 (or multiples there of) places not 9. as all the tourneys are 6max
  • edited September 2012
On another thread the point was brought up that this is a 6 max site and pay out's go 5 to 8.So you can make a final table and be the cash bubble. If we are adjusting things it seem to make sense do away with 5 and make it 6 by moving next pay-out to 35 or 36.

    listen to this man

say theres a £10 200 runner 2k GTD mtt i think the payout structure should be like this

    1st   - 20% - £400
    2nd -  16% - £320
    3rd  - 12.5% - £250
    4th -  9.5% -  £190
    5th - 7% - £140
    6th - 5% - £100
    7th - 4% - £80
    8th - 3.35% - £67
    9th - 2.65 - £53
    10-15th - 2% - £40
    16-20th - 1.6% - £32

so a slightly 'flatter' payour structure than normal

Don't have miniscule bling jumps for hours then going from 400/800 to 600/1.2k too plz :(

As Sky tables are 6 seats, I would use 6 as the magic figure when considering pay out levels.

For example in the example set out in the OP, 100 runners, £11 entry, £1,000 prize pool:
    PlacePaid% of Prize
    1st£32032%
    2nd£17517.50%
    3rd£12512.50%
    4th£959.50%
    5th£757.50%
    6th£606%
    7th£454.50%
    8th£333.30%
    9th£252.50%
    10th£202%
    11th£151.50%
    12th£121.20%
This means in a field of 100, reaching the final 12%, or final 2 tables are rewarded, furthermore, when reaching the final 2 tables, there are no more bubbles or slow play to worry about, you can just get on and play poker, knowing you are already in profit.
  • edited September 2012

For fields of 30 -50 I would like to see reaching the final table of 6 rewarded.

Example of 50 runners, £11entry, £500 prize pool:

    PlacePaid% of Prize
    1st£17535%
    2nd£10020.00%
    3rd£7515.00%
    4th£6012.00%
    5th£5010.00%
    6th£408%
Again once you have reached the final table you are in profit, nothing is more frustrating than playing for a couple of hours, reaching the final table and go out in 6th, without a return.

So for a 'worst case' scenario with a smaller field of 30 runners, £11entry and £300 prizepool:
    PlacePaid% of Prize
    1st£10535%
    2nd£6020.00%
    3rd£4515.00%
    4th£3612.00%
    5th£3010.00%
    6th£248%
Rewarding all 6 players that reach the final table, ensures poker is played freely without the fear of exiting a mtt on the final table without a return.
  • edited September 2012
Taking the above '6' place levels for larger fields, say 200 runners, £11entry, £2,000 prize pool would give you:
    PlacePaid% of Prize
    1st£52026.00%
    2nd£30515.25%
    3rd£21010.50%
    4th£1507.75%
    5th£1306.50%
    6th£1105.50%
    7th£904.50%
    8th£753.75%
    9th£603.00%
    10th£452.25%
    11th£351.75%
    12th£301.50%
    13th£251.25%
    14th£251.25%
    15th£251.25%
    16th£251.25%
    17th£201.00%
    18th£201.00%
    19th£201.00%
    20th£201.00%
    21st£150.75%
    22nd£150.75%
    23rd£150.75%
    24th£150.75%

The ability to do deals on the FT of big events would be real progression.

I think the payout structure is often top heavy and in the nightly ME and special events ie. 25k gtd, you can often see it 3 handed with an average stack of 12bbs, flipping for hundreds/ thousands.

Just to specify this would be solely for the bigger events as it takes some mediation from skypoker staff.
