Sporting Emporium is just off Grafton St, so its really central and easy to get to. No shortage of accommodation in the area.

A really plush casino (i've played there many times)....in the top place in town  and a great choice....no need to book a 3*** star hotel as there are plenty of quality 2** B&B's and guest houses....hope the favourable exchange rate doesn't change much!

Hopefully if this is during the summer (after my May exams).....any golfers or cricketers could have a long weekend holiday as no weight restrictions on ferry routes from pembroke or fishguard to Rosslare, County Wexford. 1 hour by bus to Dublin.

Wexford is the sunny south east of Ireland. (I moved here in 2006)

Anyone interested or need info nearer the announced date...just give me a shout.

Looking forward to playing my first sky poker tour event !!!!!

PS I'm a mature business student not just an old geezer

Obviously everyone would like to have events local to them but it just isn't that easy. Some of the venues in the UK just aren't upto standard to be holding a large poker event.  It's only worthwhile as a tournament if they have the capacity to hold 150-200 runners and most casinos just don't have a poker room to deal with that.   And even if they have the capacity, it doesn't mean that Sky should go there.  I have played a lot of live poker in the last couple of years, and tbh there was one venue where the organisation of the room just wasn't that great....of course the event went along fine and everyone had a good time but it could have been better! When people are spening a large amount of money to buy-in/travel and hotels, they deserve a certain level of experience from the casino that is hosting.  It would be poor form for Sky to just put on a leg at a sub-standard venue just because it is in a good location. Then there are issues like disabled access/catering/location/hotels/car parking which a lot of people who pop down to their local card room forget about. Also there may have been scheduling issues where the venues just couldn't host Sky during the dates that were free. Rich Prew is the number 1 guy in the UK when it comes to knowing live venues and their suitability to hosting large poker events. I look forward to the new tour and also hearing the new plans for 2013.

i agree with this keep the spt as a good tour and not demise it by using substandard casinos.  Im guessing this is more aimed at the glasgow casinos as they arent well equiped for big poker tournies which is a shame but i totaly agree. I run a poker league in west of scotland and only 1 casino can hold the numbers we have for our final (150-250) and the location is terrible for parking Alea last year prob best casino in glasgow have to play large tournies over 2 floors which is rediculous wish we had a DTD up here

I'm afraid I disagree with this, I think it has to be a 220 rather than a 110 to make the travel & accom costs worth the trip. I fear the numbers would be pretty low if it was a 1 day (110) event.

Am I right in thinking this would also be the first time Sky had dealt in a non-£ currency?!

Excited for the tour, I can see myself at most of the legs!

Broadway is a poorly run venue. I live in Birmingham and Im ashamed of it. I have without a doubt had the worst levels of customer service from there than any other UK casino. Also the poker room or 'area' is tiny.

Star city would of been a better choice for Birmingham. Although its a bit in the middle of nowhere.

Coventry would of been much better. It has one of the best casinos AND poker rooms in the UK.

Its a digrace that there is no event again in Scotland. This has now happened twice in the last 4 years. The SPT tour is a 3rd rate event, and the Alea in Glasgow has no problems in hosting it. I have been there, and had no problems at all with it. I see Sky have dropped the UK part of the Sky Poker Tour, DUBLIN!!!!!!!!!!! A smack in the face to all the Scots who have no doubt deposited untold thousands into the Sky coffers. I play rarely on this 3rd rate site, I do like other parts of sky, but poker on here is a bit of a Joke.  ALSO DUBLIN!!!!!!!!!! SKY POKER TOUR UK !!!!!!!!!!! Dont even have the same currency!!!!! What a fekkin joke.

    Hi

It's not an anti Scottish, or anti Welsh thing (as Cardiff/Swansea is not on the rota this year either) at all

The Scottish market has been extremely tricky to hold third party events. Indeed some tours hire hotels, using casino licences, to host their Scottish legs, but that is not a cost effective option for the SPT. I know of a venue that is not suitable because of disabled access. I know of another venue which is 100% self deal and couldn't bring in dealers at acceptable cost to Sky for an SPT event

As for the Alea, where I have now done four events, lovely casino, good staff (dealers and Cardrom manager good) but both the SPT events were not to the standards we wanted. The first event encounted significant problems and delays in running over two floors, the second had lighting that was way below what was required for a major poker tournament

There are only 5 or 6 SPT legs a year

Its not the SP"UK"T either, not while I've been doing it and Dublin ( Sky Poker operates and is licensed in in the ROI) has been on the list to visit for some time and Sky Poker has many Irish clients too

As to the Coventry or Broadway choice, both would have been fine. The Broadway now holds 200 in one area.

So this year it is Newcastle, Birmingham, London, Dublin and Nottingham

2014 I am sure will see some new venues, and certainly a different mix, assuming the SPT goes well in 2013.

For a venue to be right for Sky

    - the venue has to be willing to host (some aren't in the market for external tours)
    - to host at an acceptable cost to SkyPoker
    - to be geographically suitable for qualifiers to access easily
    - to have acceptable facilities (size of venue, and quality, plus catering, car parking etc etc)
    - to have sufficient experience (management and staff) of running large third party events
    - schedules have to work

literally just read about the tour coming to dublin, fantastic news. i qualified for one of the first tours in Newcastle but was during the really bad winter weather and couldnt travel over was gutted. and never bothered tried to qualify again since. 2 and a half hour drive up from belfast ill hope to make it this time.

as stated the nightlife is wonderful and it wouldnt be the worst thing to get knocked out early for those never over before cos youll be assured of great craic if you are to venture outside of the casino!!!

in temple bar expect pints etc to hinge around the 5 euro mark

    It doesn't actually, now

The Refurbed Grosvenor Cardroom is a bit small and Les Croups signalled that they were not so keen on hosting us, going forward (down to resourcing and their costs, not down to a dislike of Sky Poker)

So, it can be trickier than it seems....

Of course, but not just yet (no event in January, so no pressing rush)

As soon as I have a release date will let you know

I've heard that it is about £7 a pint in Ireland.

    Is that true!
