Bank roll challenge, £58.71 to £200. Current bank role =£85.26

edited February 2013 in Poker Chat

After reading about GaryQQQ's challenge and Lambert's diary as well thought it would be a cracking idea to give it a go under the spotlight.

Brilliant what QQQ's doing

Tonight I have £58.71 in my account it's my challenge to get this up to £200, and see if it can be done and how long it takes. I'm pretty confident it can be achieved.

I really just play poker for fun, not really for money, so this is going to challenge me to see if it can be achieved.

My strategy is; 2p 4p games, multi-tabling, and also £2.20 bounty hunters. I will not play higher levels until such time as I have enough to justify it. I can play quite decent but othertimes play shocking!

I'll keep postin of progress.

    Cheers Mate!

Just had a quick session, up 2 £68.81,

When i'm playing the 2p 4p tables playin 4 at a time. No idea how people can do more than that!

I can only get 4 tables up at a time. Yesterday, lookin at a good hand missed aces on another table and was folded when it timed out!

There was someone talking about TommyD's diary it was good that a good player was doing a diary, and bored of all the low limit diaries.

I think it's a brilliant way for me to track what I am doing, and most importantly stop being throwing away chips by playing mental.

To be fair I dont think there is much difference between a 2p 4p table up to about 10-20p.

It's my plan when I have increased my bank roll to move up to 4p -8p.
  • edited February 2013
Also think there is better tables in the 2p 4 p tables, where it's easier to get paid. Outa 4 tables, i busted on 1, made a small profit on 1, lost a small amoun on other, and massive gain on another.

Thanks for the mention, best of luck to you.

4nl 8nl simlar in term of skill level from 10nl it get a little harder , so u should

Wow no offence but you really did butcher the whole hand lol.

Dont ever limp, certainly not at this stage of a tourney, you take away all possibility of picking 1200 chips free when the BB folds.

I dont get why youve done something really weak preflop then suddenly show strength on the flop. Calling the turn is fine. You can bet the river but shoving is never gonna get called by a worse hand.

Sorry, dont mean that to sound too harsh. Seems like you are going in the right direction so keep it up

Lol not at all, it was played shockin style lol

I've never really thought i could raise blind on blind with q 9 suited, tho here it would have got a fold.

Wht would you raise 2, min raise? If yer calledand missflop, do you continue 2 bet?

In the later stages Id stick to minraising like I do in all positions, but early when Im still 3x ing UTG, Ill 3x here as well.

In terms of what hands you do it with, I think Q9s is a lovely hand to do it with against anyone but it kinda depends what the opponent is like. At the start of a tourney theres not much point nicking 20 chips, but like here where you can nick 800, there are plenty of people so tight that I wouldnt even look at my cards before knowing Im gonna minraise their BB if it gets folded to me.

Other players might like defending their BB so everytime you raise, they 3bet you (although these people are few and far between) regardless of what they have to try to put a stop to you doing it.

As for carrying on, like other scenarios it really depends on board texture. From my experience the hands that most people like to call from the BB with are raggy Ax, connecting hands like 79, 8T, 9T etc and PPs. You just need to try to judge how nice the flop is likely to be for them.

For instance if they call and it comes 27Kr, thats very unlikely to help them at all and you can probably just bet and take it down. If it comes AJ8 (2 hearts) probably best to just check/give up

Cheers buddy, that's 1 of my area of the game that's not the best, playing in the final stages of a tournie, and not been aggressive enough at this stage.

That orfordable tournie the other day, I folded Ace King from early postion 2 from the bubble lol

I  had it in my head i needed to cash, but min prize was only 5 or 6 quid, I shoula just shoved it.

I hate playin a tournie and gettin knocked out on or near the bubble lol

    Good luck Larson

By the way, min raising from small blind is absolutely terrible advice
  • edited February 2013
Not at 400/800 it isnt (as in the example we were talking about). What do you raise to in that spot?

I think anyone halfway competent is going to make your life hell in this spot.
Min raising hijack cut off , button etc but oop in sb min raising any 2 as you suggest, I'm really not keen on.

  • edited February 2013
You guys are forgetting the importance of stack sizes when it comes to the sizing pre,,,

couple examples...if we have a 30bb stack in the sb and we min raise a 60bb stack we can be exploited  and put in tough spots(because he will call a lot and we are oop) on the flip side if we have 25bb stack and the big blind has 13bb then min raising is best this allows us to get away from the hand and when we do have a hand it gives plenty of room for him to make a mistake(a small raise will put pressure on a shortie an extra bb will not make a difference and will only commit you).

Down to £80.17, had a cracking start, nevr got going this morning and played shocking style!

Was missng everything. One of the hands i had a pair and a flush draw on the flop, guy goes all in, looks like an over pairwhich it was, I call and dont improve.

The good with the bad lol

That was my point about opponent selection though. My comment about minraising any 2 against a lot of people relates to the vast majority of people who arent halfway competent.

And yeah as WHOAMI has said, stack sizes are important too although on Sky its rare youll ever get to 400/800 and have someone with 60xBB lol. In most shorter stack pots, it reduces your risk for the same reward so your success rate of stealing the BB can be lower to still be +EV, can get away cheaper when necessary, can actually play some postflop poker if stacks arent too small, and as WHOAMI said, it allows people to make mistakes.

Hi, Good luck with your challenge.

I dont know if you have seen but I am doing a £200 ---> £2000 challenge at the moment, mabye when you reach £200 you could try to make it to £2000?

A bit of healthy cometition :)
  • edited February 2013

SJSpanky, i know mate cheers, but i would say it's clearly a lot easier down at the lower level plus it's such a small amount in the grandscheme of things.

Plus I am yoyoing madly. I know there will be a bit of that in poker, but i need to try and be a bit more consistant.

lol sighcall, once i get 2 £200, my next goal is £450-500.

I've had a couple of goes at £2.20 BH but so far have done nothing outside a fw bounties. If i can get a good run in a BH and final table it will add a good boost to bank roll.

A few weeks ago, i hada brilliant run in BH just not happening right now.

Good luck with your 200-2000 challenge! epic task i'll be looking out for your progress. What areyou playing?

Plus when i get to £200, i'll prob calm it down with the poker. Playing 4 cash tbles, is a pure grind. Tho im enjoyin it.

    Up to £99.61.

Some of the hands posted over on the poker clinic.

Played a shocking hand with an Ace where opponents flopped the nuts. I raised he reraised, and i called. Was an easy fold:D So done most of my stack.

Got back up 4k busting pocket kings with pocket 10s, next hand sittin with 10 bigs i shipped AJ into Aces:(

    Tho got 4/5 bounties.
