The reason why I said some people were close in their thinking was that some of you went for 109ss. I.e. I had a draw on the flop, I picked up extra equity on the turn, and got there on the river.
I'll buy you a pint mr ff55hh at next SPT if youre about... and maybe you too Double if youre lucky.
I once found a £20 note by the cutty sark but my success here is a close rival to that moment. Out of interest, if you were facing that bet with QQ and the same actions beforehand, would you still call?? Posted by ff55hh
Haha. Good stuff.
I really dont know tbh. It'd really depend who I was playing. Some villains would try this and others would just check back hoping their A highs are good/just give up. I've made the bet to seem massively polarised. Air or effective nuts. I cant have many 2 pairs in my hand, if any, and sets seem unlikely.
There are a few hands I could have backed into (such as 109 and 65), but its very hard to spot these when they come runner runner.
I'd probably call... especially v me. The most likely hand I have is a busted flush draw, but the price makes it a more difficult call. But yeah, totally depends on who im playing.
BUT... plans are in motion for a small trip to Vegas in the Summer with a mate. He's not a big poker player at all, but he wants to go. I think the plan might be fly to vegas, stay there for about 4 days... then rent a car and go visit grand canyon and maybe head into Phoenix or possibly LA for a few nights. End the trip with another few nights in Vegas before heading back.
Don't know how plausible all that is. Obviously poker time will take a hit, but id still be able to play a few MTTs and a bit of cash. After all poker wouldnt be the only reason im going.
Only issue is where to stay, what to do and where to go while im over there.
Well last nights cash session was interesting to say the least.
There was next to no 50nl running, so I ended up 2 tabling 100nl. I thought at about 11pm that id just play for an hour or so then go watch some tv.
An hour in and im 5 BI down.
5.
Now thats just not acceptable. I couldn't reward myself after a -5BI session with some House of Cards fun. Nope. I had to try and get it back. I had played pretty poor in that first hour, but I wasn't tilted. I was just trying to force it a bit too much, taking high variance lines and seemingly just picking the wrong spots.
There was one guy on my table who i'd given at least one BI to who was chirping up a bit saying how bad I was and that I was just giving my money away. I don't mind that at all. If they effectively tell you they are never going to believe you, then you just adjust your play. I tightened a bit, tried to make my big hands look as much as bluffs as I could and worked on getting my 5 BI back.
I had already managed to grab one BI back by the time this hand rocked around. My thinking behind this hand was simple. Opener is aggressive and will barrel worse. There are tonnes of people after me able to squeeze with worse, and ive underrepped my hand. I had said I was making adjustments... and it worked.

Shortly after, the guy who bust out on this table reloaded, but he changed seats and I now had position on him. He tended to limp all of his range. I isolated him about 90% of his limps, and after about an hour or two I found the right spot and got him again.

So that session that started at 11pm and was only supposed to last an hour, actually went on to nearly 4am.
However I managed to reclaim my 5 lost BI and actually ended in profit by about a tenner. Snap quit. I'll take that after the beginning I had.
It does make me wonder.... why can't I start a session by winning 5 BI? That'd be nice.
life would be much less stressful if we could just win the 5 buy ins from off. Say ta very much and sod off to the boozer. Take the positives though. Ending up a tenner in profit after being down a wedge is a way better feeling than going 5 buy ins up and finishing £10 up.
had a weird hand with the guy sandwiched between us in the deepstack. I 3bet KJ and he flatted. Flopped trips. He check calls all the way to the river. Then leads out for 240 into 2500. Alarm bells go off and I just call. He'd flopped the full house. Felt like I'd had a free rebuy after that. Nice guy.
Posted pics because you said you liked photos. Then you don't comment. Made me sad

Yeah I was pleased that I managed to claw it back. Although I don't think ive ever had such a draining session, both physically and emotionally.
5 hours grind to get a £10 profit doesn't seem great. However after the first hour you could argue I did a 4 hour grind with a £510 profit.
Different ways of looking at it can make you feel better or worse than it actually is/was.
I saw that hand you played. It was really odd play from the villain. If he checks and lets you bet again, then goes all in, I imagine you find it very hard to lay down trip Kings. It did almost seem like you got a 'get out of jail free' card when he lead 240 into you.
Sigh. I'll go check the pictures now and give you a lovely comment i'm sure . They werent approved last time I checked.
Well tonight has been OK ££ wise, but dissapointed in myself overall.... maybe I'll change my mind by the time i've finished this post.
I reg for the Primo, Mini Primo. £22 Deepstack and £55 BH tonight.
I managed to get into the Primo and BH for about £15 each so the night cost me about £55 in total, which isn't bad considering the prizepools on offer.
After about half an hour in the Primo I was down to about 850 chips... I was also down to about 2k in Deepstack. I wasn't playing great... it was evident. I almost resigned myself to going out both and just going to watch tv. The mini started and so did the 9pm BH... both ending swiftly.
Somehow still in the primo and deepstack come 10 o'clock, I was seeing the field thin out quite a bit and even though my chip stacks were well below average, 1.... maybe 2 DU was all it'd take to cash as long as I played sensibly.
Then come a spot in the Deepstack where villain donk overshoves a Kd Qd 5x board. I have K10 and find the call. He has the flush draw and misses and suddenly I have a stack.
I manage to run into FT of Deepstack and even manage to get to HU as chip leader after knocking out MattBates
However it wasn't meant to be after this hand gave him a dominant chip lead I couldn't overcome:

I still had the primo going though... hovering around the smaller stacks looking for a good spot to double up.
I managed to get it to secure a cash JJ v K10 on a 10 high board and was in the top 10 with 20 left.
After about an hour I was on the final table, as shortstack. I manage to ladder to 5th, but after my jam with 33 got called by A7o didnt hold up I was out.
I'm dissapointed in myself cause of my shove with 33 in the primo. It was over a button raise, but it didnt look like he was folding.... and I also didnt win the deepstack after getting to HU as chip leader.
Still.... considering I had almost given up circa 9pm... a +£750 night is good.
Actually £750 is a lot of money... maybe I shouldnt be so hard on myself.
Without a shadow of a doubt, I find it difficult to deal with losing. Im OK if i lose a pot in a cooler now and again, but bad beats, and more importantly, bad play (from myself) can annoy me to no end. Poker should be an emotionless game. A game of calculated risks where you innevitably end up a winning player if you make the right decisions long term.
Poker is more to me than that though. To me, poker is almost a sport. Its a competition. Can I beat the other guy in this pot? Can I take down this 500 man tournament? It's not really about the money. Yes, the money is nice... but the feeling of winning is just as important to me. If you ask me if I would rather finish 2nd in an MTT for £3k or 1st in an MTT for £2k. I definitely know which one would feel better to me - the one where I had proved myself to be the best in that field. Of course if these numbers were £3k and £300 then the i'd be silly to refuse the £3k, however I wouldn't finish with the same sense of pride compared to winning the £300 tournament.
If you asked any football player or manager whether they'd rather finish 2nd in the Champions League or 1st in the League/a domestic trophy... well isn't that an obvious answer? Any manager would rather have silverware in a season than none. Shall we ask Arsene Wenger his thoughts on this?
So when I do set myself up nicely for a tournament and look good to take it down, only to make an error, I do take it hard. I have impossibly high standards. Standards i'll never live up to. Standards that will make me feel rubbish for 95% of my poker life. But its those same standards which are going to help me improve. I try to learn from my mistakes and cut them out, and do find myself improving over a month by month basis as I start to plug these leaks.
I know I can't win every tournament I play... or every pot in cash. That'd be ridiculous. What I want from myself is to be able to say at the end of each tournament or cash hand that I played that the best I could. If I can't, then its my own ruddy fault. I will be dissapointed. I can't help it.
So im sorry if im a little moany now again and prone to a little tilt. Its more a reflection of my dissapointment in my own game, rather than others. Bad beats happen... I need to deal with it. It's my own errors I can't deal with. They simply must go.

Good post.
Any cash 1st or 2nd is a great result. The edges hu with massive blinds are really limited. You have had a phenomenal amount of wins (1st place) as well as many FT's under your belt.
Your drive and strive to constantly win/ improve have really bourne out in your MTT results. Without a shadow of a doubt you are one of the best MTTplayers on the site. Never played you at cash recently (clearly!) but in the last few months paying the levels you have been playing you will be constantly learning and your game will have improved no end comared to someone who plays exclusively 20nl and hasn't moved up.
Maybe you put to much ego into the game. As in saying i must win, win, win.
By the nature of it we are not going to win all the time, there will be the downswings, coolers and times we can't get anything going as well as the good times. During your bad spells you do like to talk about it and post hands.
Plus we are all going to make mistakes, it;s inevitable, like you said just learn from them and move on.
I was similiar used to moan "this is so sick getting runner runnered". Maybe i still do to an extent. But i've tried to stop doing that now, it's pointless and negative.
You are doing really well with the poker. Keep up the good work buddy
Played cash. Lost cash. Tilted at lost cash. Withdrew big chunk of roll. Convince myself its for Vegas trip this year. Actually cause I dont want to do something silly. Child.
Think itd be good for me. I grinded my but off last month and this month I'm still playing until 4am each morning and getting up for work at 8am. Im tired. A man needs his sleep!
Hopefully by taking a week off I can try and restore some sort of poker/life balance midweek.
Don't think the cycle ive got at the minute is sustainable and is certainly going to hinder me long term.
Las Vegas booked! Im heading off on the 20th May and getting back on 8th June. I'll be starting and ending my trip in Vegas with a fair bit of travelling around San Fran, LA and Grand Canyon in between. Looking forward to it! Anyone else on the Vegas plane? Posted by gazza127
About time! Sounds like a good trip in the making. Shame I'm back less than 2 weeks before you fly out.
Been looking into various tourneys on the strip. Unsurprisingly, there seems to be quite a few crapshoot ones (10 min blinds, or 40bb SS etc etc). The better structured ones look like they are held at the Venetian, Wynn, Aria, Caesars Palace and Bellagio. Buy ins hover around the $100-$200 mark, most have 30 min levels and a 200bb SS. They will probably attract a better calibre of player, so there could be some value in the crapshoot ones if variance is kind to us. Allvegaspoker.com gives you the lowdown....
Tip for San Fran (great city), if you want to go to Alcatraz, and you really should do it, then book it in advance. By advance, I mean this weekend! If you rock (no pun intended) up at the ticket office on the day you want to go with nothing sorted in advance, gg.

If you plan on surviving past your 50's then I would consider sorting this out lol

Might call it a night. Clearly the poker gods don't like me today.
Should have.
Played cash. Lost cash. Tilted at lost cash. Withdrew big chunk of roll. Convince myself its for Vegas trip this year. Actually cause I dont want to do something silly. Child.
TV now.
Have a great time in vegas btw
Alcatraz is on the list.
