Thurs Night Live Show with Fowler and Tikay 7pm CH861 ***official show thread****20K Bounty Hunter t

"teacakes"?

My name is tikay. Or Tony. Or Concrete Kendall. Mr Kendall if you wish to be deferential. It is NOT teacakes.

"velvet jacket banned".

You think so? You think I'd not rise above such petty instructions? My apparel shall be velvet. Because I can.

#skypokertv for you tweeters (not twerkers)

I am so very happy to have my lovely teacakes with me tonight for a full 5 hours of  ranting, latte slurping, dozing (only slightly in the breaks), popular culture critiquing, rambling and velvet jacket watching (oh no sorry it was banned).

    We would like to know:

Who taught you to play Poker the first time you played?  And who taught you the most about playing poker?

Looking forward to seeing some good action on the tables especially in the main event tonight!! Keep in touch, let us know how you get on, whether you are new to SkyPoker, new to the Bounty Hunter, or new to the show...

    Enjoy..

A and T.. abit like a G and T, but far less depressive

    xx

Who taught me to play poker?

Well you know that information card that you get in a deck of cards which lists the order of hands from best to worst?  That was essential when i started playing poker with mates on the odd Saturday.  Other than that?  I dunno... i've just taught myself really through playing a load and learning from my mistakes.

Don't forget, with THREE hours of Main Event coverage tonight, there is a good chance of a shout out on the Show. Just Post on this thread (or e-Mail us @ skyopen@bskyb.com ) if you are playing & you want us to show one of your hands.

Too expensive? Yeah, understood. But there must be around 80 (EIGHTY) Satellites running for it, (go count them!) from as little as £1.60 & £1.80, with SEATS GUARANTEED. Worth chucking a fiver or two at these, if you can afford it. The Prize pool tonight will be at LEAST £20,000. Better than winning the Lottery. Almost. More chance, too. Deffo.

Easiest way to find the Satellites it to click the Satellite Tab in the Tourney Lobby, then click "status", & it puts them all in order, all together like.

I know I may be jumping the gun a bit but are there plans to run similar quantities of satellites on a non-double guarentee week of main events?

Two reasons why I think the guarentees have been smashed:

    1) Bigger guarentees attract more runners
    2) Loads of sats (a lot more than usual) aimed at all bankrolls with guarenteed seats.

Would be good if this was made a monthly promotion - there appears to be enough demand!

    Hi gazza,

I have no idea, in truth.

Been quite an interesting week so far, but I imagine they'll want to take a step back after the week is over, & have a look at the numbers. I would imagine quite a bit of subsidy has been thrown at all those Satellites, though I've not checked. A LOT of behind the scenes Promotional buttons have been pressed, too, with mail shots, texts, & various other things.

Think it has been a really interesting thing, overall. Still 4 days to go yet, too....it might fall flat on it's face tonight, though not if effort by everyone counts for anything. We shall see.

Can't wait for next week, me, Double Rewards on DYM's. Oooooohhhhh.

What will tonight's Prize Pool be?

The Guarantee has been doubled to £20,000. Eek. Safest answer is obviously....£20,000!

Here's the tale of the tape so far.....

Monday, (Bounty Hunter) doubled from £8,000 to £16,000. Made £22,080

Tuesday (Turbo Wurbo) doubled to £8,000. Made £9,260

Wednesday (Rebuy), doubled to £8,000. Made £11,500.

Tonight (Bounty Hunter), doubled to £20,000. .........

So, biggest test so far, tonight.

Fail to meet the doubled Guarantee?

    Just about cover it?

    Crush it?

Post your best guess in the thread, & we'll try & read out a few of the more interesting replies.....

  • edited October 2013

    My guess?

    Tonight's Prize Pool will be.....£20,010. (667 players).

So if it fails to make the Guarantee, I'll only be £10 out. ;)
  • edited October 2013
    £24k is my guess.

My guess for Turbo tuesday an hour before it started was 900+ and it got 926.

    Reckon about 800 tonight.
  • edited October 2013
    Guess 745 players
  • edited October 2013

    745, 800, I'd take either right now!

It really is fun in the office on weeks like this. The Business could be made to look seriously silly, & like all good businesses, it has stiff weekly, monthly & annual targets & forecasts to meet. There is a real buzz this week, because it matters a lot to not dust off a 5 £igure sum in Overlay & subsidies.

    Scary, but fun scary.

BIG test tonight - it's a Bounty Hunter, & we all know that a lot of people think BH's are not popular. Monday's BH went nearly 40% over the Doubled Guarantee, Wednesday's Rebuy Open (also often said to be unpopular) slightly more than that.

All very interesting, & great fun.

Meanwhile, while overseeing that, they are approaching the final fence with the new software for Tourneys & DYM's, prepping for UKOPS, Double Rewards all month, SPT Grand Final, & some other very exciting stuff which is currently under the radar. Exciting times.

Think you will crush it £27.9k ;)

all these sats during the day help :) i can see it getting 850 runners easy

    have a good show :)
  • edited October 2013

As to how many runners the main event will get - I'm going with 888. No doubt it is a very popular draw, and with the amount of sats in the lobby, even that number may be short.

I think I taught myself how to play poker, which probably explains my supreme lack of knowledge and ability, and also why it was a few years before I realised I didn't have to take my clothes off every time I lost a hand :)

3rd post after being shown on the TV tables on Tuesday - I'll try to answer as much as I can:)
My first games of poker was a £20 home game that was agreed on the night (no time to research!) As you can imagine, it was a disaster as I looked at hands like J3o and thought "this is good, i've got a Jack and Jack's are big cards!" Afterwards, I decided to try and research and as I (and my mates) got better the stakes got lower - Obviously the guys who invited us realised we weren't atm's anymore!
SOme of us then began to take the game more seriously and delved into "online poker" - we shared hands that we played and discussed them. That was OK, but I guess I really didn't get a feel for things until I started playing online regularly. Had a fantastic run on PKR after Christmas in 2009 and spun $50 into $10000 in about a month - didn't understand BRM back then (and probably still don't on most occasions!) The guys thought I was a legend and might go pro - nah I cashed it all out coz the missus learned how much I had, do'h! $10000 better off but never really reached those heights again but have gone close with some 50-2K spin ups on odd occassions.
Finally, the topic about the double guarantee's - I think this week so far has proved that doing promotions like this will attract the runners and can only be good for the site. On another forum (which I won't name) it is sad because the guarantees have disappeared to cut costs, but as a result the runners have dipped dramatically! Many regs have suggested countless really good initiatives, but only to be ignored. As a result, the site is dying a death rather quickly. Kudos to Sky for taking the risks - but it appears to be paying off:)

    Ty bud,

Kinda similar to F_Ivanovic' story in a way but I sat down at a $50 with my whole $50. I doubled through and sat at a $100 table, same story and up to $200 table in one night. Next night doubled through and at $400 table. There I stayed for the month occassionally dabbling with the odd $1000 table playing the likes of Beyne (Vladimir Geshkenbein) and co. I must've run like God at the time to do this!:)
I'd never read anything about BRM at that time and still frequently ignore it:) (only really play for fun in small bursts when work allows) - but Hey! I did get a look on top of the pots here last year in the summer! £1305 pot:) and I do remember Tikay commenting on it and calling my every move - so I must've played it as optimally as poss!

However, you may see me probs at £20NL later if i'm not too knackered from work:)

Hi Tikay and Anna.   My main education came from a book that cost me about £3-50 called Texas Holdem Poker Win Online by Paul Mendelson. Nothing too advanced but gave me a good grounding in ABC poker. Also when I switched to Sky TV and discovered 865 I lapped it up and was watching about 3 to 4 hours a day, learnt a whole lot more and eventually signed up to the site. I spent a few days trying various formats without any great success then found the deepstacks and won 2 in the space of a week. Been here 2 1/2 years now all from an initial deposit of £25.

the thing that got me taking poker serious was when someone showed me a post made by doh on how to beat the micro stakes.

    Hi Teacakes and Anna

    Learning poker?

Well i came across 861 by chance 3 years ago and used your video lessons as a grounding but then came across the book  'Harrington on hold 'em' in a charity shop. Ten days after getting it i'd made the Survivor final from the monday and decided to visit my local casino in Liverpool for a live game. Would you believe it when i say i won!!! When i was asked how long i'd been playing i said "oh about ten"....it was mistaken for years thankfully, not days! Winning was probably more luck than judgement but the die was cast. I invested in more books being a ex maths teacher and studied as well as using the poker clinic and spotting the very good posters and i could see my game improving more and more.

Funnily enough i'm not a gambler but i do enjoy the game as there is, to my mind, a skill to it as well as  great banter with team mates from The Hitsquad.
