I've decided to forego the jokes at Matt's expense, so I hope he remembers that
You're very much a player who 'goes hard or goes home', and - as I'm sure you'll admit - you're just as likely to bust in the first few minutes as you are to have a very deep run. Does your brand of aggression sometimes get the better of you in the early stages of a tournament, where you've found yourself getting involved in a hand that, on reflection, you perhaps should not have done?
I'd also like to say that I've met Matt a couple of times at live events and had the pleasure of picking his brain over a few drinks. Lucky, undoubtedly, but he makes his own. A great player, a genuinely nice guy to chat with, and a fantastic ambassador for Sky.
Matt, given this story about giant spiders taking up residence in our homes this autumn, how does a person of your stature cope with the threat of predation from common household pests?
In Response to Re: Sky Poker TV- live tonight from 7pm with Rich, Ross and Matt Bates ***official show thread*** : Surely he's been hard at work for it making toys all year for the bearded fellow? Posted by Lambert180
Good evening dreamteam, how are you all? I've heard a lot of speculation about the MTT king, do you play live events Matt or is it mainly an online thing? If so, what is your biggest buy-in and where did you finish? thanks in advance.
What's the biggest/most comment mistake you see people make in late stages of MTTs and how do you exploit it? (let's ignore limping)... people raise/folding too much? people giving up their blinds too easily? etc
As you know Matt, I am quite a fish and have had a bad time of it on the cash tables over the last two or three weeks. I rarely play tournaments and, as has been said, you rarely play cash. From your opposing point of view, would playing a few tournaments help me out a bit now or does it run the risk of confusing my "cash mind"? Do you find that the occassional dalliance with cash poker confuses your MTT play at all?
Second question:
Why are you on with Richard? Didn't they offer one of the ladies or would that have been too stressful?
You're playing the Roller and have managed to get to the final table with a decent stack. Still in the mini, but struggling as short stack aiming for jackpot.
Theres a knock on the door and Mila Kunis is there asking for help as her car has broken down.
Question for matt: i often suffer a fair bit of abusive comments in the chat box as i can make some debatable calls / shoves etc, what is the best way to deal with it, as it sometimes tilts me into mistakes.

I would just like to thank Matt for last month when he took the time to give me such good advice on making the transition between online to live poker.
Evening, Gentlemen! I would just like to thank Matt for last month when he took the time to give me such good advice on making the transition between online to live poker. Best advice I've been given - by far. Posted by Llamas
i have just gone out of the MTT i did post a question about spots like this earlier, i called the river and predicted Jx right away but it's the fact they do it with weak Jxs as well as strong Jxs makes it so frustrating.
what is your best way of getting the value with these against those weaker hands and also avoiding the loss of a whole stack from those that are better.
When playing in a non-bounty hunter game on Sky, how low in terms of number of big blinds are you prepared to get before shoving pretty much any ace etc?
..and do you prefer to shove over an open or to steal the blinds?
Do you play any other formats on other sites like 4max? Do you ever have issues when you have like 6max, full-ring, and 4max on the go all at the same time because obviously ranges change drastically.
Also I remember you saying that in yuor early days on Sky you struggled and you really had to adapt your MTT game for Sky... do you find you're playing 2 different styles when playing on Sky and another site at the same time and is that a struggle at times?
Some great advice and insight from Matt. I was bemoaning my luck when he took my pants down . (not in the literal sense I might add) heads up in a tourney the other week, but in hindsight I had played VERY fast & loose upto that point and did not put enough emphasis on my perceieved image... I did not know Matt, or how good he was and he obviously had me tagged by then or at least had a good read on me and I prob should have changed gears. Either way..WP Matt and it has been very interesting listening tonight,,the bits i managed to catch.
lIKE Matt I multi table mtts..however need to have a word with myself on the consistency front.
By the way .. coming after you next year on the sharkscope front!!
Also a question for Matt. Do you think there is more value in live play or online?

I would ask Matt for advice but i fear he knows very little of rollercoasters...
... you know, cause of his height.

Question for Matt
Larger or Cider ?
Just because when I started playing the suits were Black and White, it doesn't make me old. I feel hurt. Last question, Vegas next year?
