Hi I'm going out to Vegas between the 17th and 24th of June. It's the first time i would have been there over the wsop and it looks like I can only play 1 event (38) as i can only play Hold Em and don't want to buy in for a $10,000 event. Just wondering if anyone knows if any of the casinos run more tournaments over this time or is it just the usual schedule they have that runs all year round? Thanks Barrie

    Hi Tony,

You can add myself and Paul (Pears27) to the 'We are going anyway, so there' list and I'll be doing my best to get on the 'Qualified on Sky Poker so far' list over the coming months.

First time in Vegas, can't wait.

Good stuff Leigh, will add you & Paul to the next Update.

First time in Vegas? Good Lord, you'll be blown away by the place, it's incred.

Another UKPC Champ is going too - Fraser Bellamy.

Can't imagine Alex Spencer, the third UKPC Champ will go though, minimum age for gambling in Vegas is 21, he's about 7 years shy of that by the look of him, not even shaving yet.

    Bromleys, formally checking in!

We're there for the first two weeks of June. Monster Stack Baby!!

In other news, I was with Young Spencer over the weekend in Malta and I'm sure he said that he was going to Vegas (I'd had a couple of shandys tho!) If I'm right then that's the full suite of UKPC champions heading out there.

    Boom.

James, aka DTM, asked me elsewhere about Sky Poker's plans for Las Vegas this year.

With 35 qualifiers, it'll be quite an exercise, though it's not a school outing, & players won't be expected to show up for Assembly every morning or anything like that. Someone from Sky Poker will be around if needed though.

    It'll work something like this.

    Base Camp Palazzo

At least one Serious Suit, maybe more, will be at Palazzo in a pre-arranged location at Palazzo Hotel every morning between 28th June & 14th July, to cover both waves of Sky Poker Qualifiers (30 x £3,200 & 5 x £10,000). It's possible they may head home before 14th July, but as long as one of our players is still in the WSOP, someone from Sky Poker will be, too. Not sure who it will be, but you'll have met them at the recent UKPC in Notts for sure.

    Base Camp Rio

Dan the Man, who runs Sky Poker TV, will be at the Rio Hotel (home of the WSOP) with a TV camera for, roughly, the same dates as above. He will be filming our players progress for immediate You Tube Uploading, & gathering a reservoir of material for Sky Poker TV to help take them through the Autumn.

I will be his deputy, to help with the interviews, "player finding" & pieces to camera. I'll also be responsible for running the Community Live Update, following our players in the WSOP.

We will both be based in the Media Centre, which is right opposite the cardroom areas, & we will be there or thereabouts every single day between 9am & close of play, which is roughly midnight. Any of our players who needs any guidance on anything can come see us there.

Personally, I'm hoping to be there on my own account from the end of May until "work" starts 28th June, playing all the funny 4 & 5 card games at Rio, Venetian, Golden Nugget, Binions etc., except for a week or so mid-trip when I'm having some private time away from poker. All being well, I'll be sending home a "Las Vegas Blog" most days.

    That's the plan, anyways.

Thanks Rob, though I'm sure plenty others could do as well if not better. I do know you were a little uncomfy with the Punta Cana situation, & I think Suit City know how important this is.

What with all the palaver, it's been quite an unsettling three months for many of us, & this arrangement was not confirmed until very recently, the last week or two iirc. In fact, it was only finalised in a Meet yesterday afternoon, though I expect the Business had made their decision a while back.

I was going on my own, anyway (fingers crossed), but planned to return home before the Main Event, as a player, I'm not really bothered about NLH, I just play the funny games these days. So we came to an agreement that I'd do some Sky Poker blogs, not daily, but as often as possible, on behalf of the Business.

Then it was confirmed that Sky Poker TV would go along, too, so at that stage, I was asked if I minded staying on, which of course I was delighted to do.

A lot of stuff is happening very quickly behind the scenes, "transition" (from Sky to our new owners) is a momumental task, & it clogged up the decision making process for a while when we were sort of betwixt & between, but the new peeps have the office keys now, so it's all systems go, SIG.

Now you just have to qualify........

Thanks for that Tikay.  It's great that your going to have a small team there.  We had better get some deep runs to keep you all out there.

Somehow your wise words make me feel slightly less stressed about flying too.

I spent 3 weeks in California/Arizona in Sept and didn't play any poker.  There is so much to do in surrounding areas and if your prepared to drive it really makes the trip and many more places accessible.

    Thanks again :)

Hi Barrie, There are 2 great apps that you can download - ' Poker Atlas' which is great for seing what tourneys are on in all the poker rooms in vegas.  Used it a lot last year.  There is also 'Bravo Poker'  which is great for finding out which tables have cash games going on, at what level and how long the waiting lists are - which can be massive, especially at the Aria.

I played quite a few of the Planet Hollywood tourneys last year - low buyin and great structure.  They regularly had 200/300 runners and for our first day there the 'Monster Stack was on at the Rio, so as people bust of that it inflates all the other rooms lower buyin tourneys so I think there was like 483 runners for a $100  buyin on our first night there.

Hope this helps and you have a great time!

If you bink your main event package get yourself out early.  There will be a few of us that have won the smaller package that'll be making the most of Vegas the week before your due out.

    Spring Break!! ;)

    That's a great post, Shanny.

There is usually a "Daily Rio Deepstack" series, too. These get monster fields. Last year's $235 Rio Daily Deepie averaged over 1,500 runners per day. Matt Bates cashed in a few, as I recall, as did MacMonster.

The Rio usually run 3 of these every single day, as follows....

    3pm - $235

    6pm - $185

    10pm - $135

These are stonking value if you enjoy that kind of thing.

They play pretty fast at the sharp end (I'm told....), but hey, it's a 1 dayer, with 1,500+ runners, so they are bound to. Think they usually have about $35,000 to $40,000 up top.

Wow - 24 runners already.  I still can't believe that I'm one of them lol but I'll give it a go on the night. As its already got 24 runners so far dare I ask what will happen to any surplus cash if more than 50 runners?  I just don't want the same confusion as the Punta Cana game for whoever bubbles this one.

I've no idea, Rose, but I'm sure that if that scenario arises, it will be made known in advance, & very clearly.

It is still some 7 weeks until the BIG Final, so I would suggest it is best to wait & see how many qualify, & then it can be made known in advance.

Well done on qualifying - now get the job finished.

    Morning Rose.

This has now been clarified, I had a long chat with the Suits yesterday, & they already had the matter sorted.

The £10,000 Viva Las Vegas will NOT have more than 50 runners.

So there will be no surplus cash or seats.

Once it reaches 50 runners, it will be CLOSED to further entries.

Even if it reaches 50 with weeks to spoare, that's it, no more qualifiers.

If, say, it got to 49 with weeks to spare, a qualifier with one seat will run, just to ensure that no more than 50 runners play the Final.

I've no idea what they would do if someone declined the package, or got disqualified or whatever, but I don't think that matters really - the Final will have 5 (FIVE) packages on offer, & will be maxed at 50 runners.

Close but no cigar for me, came about 55th with 40 paid I think. No heads either. My woeful run in Bounty Hunters continues! Not sure how the others got on, hopefully someone got at least a head prize!

Quite enjoyed the new structure. Always felt way too shallow before, where if you lost a key hand early doors then your demise felt imminent. Now you have a bit more wiggle room, can splash about a bit. The added levels gave it a good flow I felt.

Appreciate that this might make it a longer tournament than people ideally would like to play, but if you're in the money and hunting a top prize of £1,500 +, I'm sure the average player doesn't mind losing an hours kip for this chance :)

    Good morning all,

Looking for a bit of guidance in regards to this year's WSOP.

Quick background, I play regularly on here (GRINTLER) as it's my preferred site, I do ok but I never get carried away as i'm pretty sure i'm just an idiot that catches the occasional river.

i'm 25 and have been passionate about all things poker for a decade now (not even just playing, I get the magazines, have seen every youtube-poker-related video 10 times over, would be starstruck if I met Hellmuth, Brunson, Ivey, Negreanu etc... proper geek) and have had a fascination about going to the WSOP, like most, for as long as i've known about it.

I've been to Vegas twice before but both times were more 'holiday like' surrounded by people who have no interest in poker, so I only played one tournament whilst there.

This year, the $565 Colossus has really caught my attention and am lucky enough to be in a position where I can afford to go out there and have a couple of stabs at it. I'm self employed so getting time off work isn't an issue, I literally have no logistical reason not to go.

My only issue is that I will be going alone. I do like my own company but i'm just a bit worried that it's not going to be for me, hence this guidance seeking post. I've read a lot of stuff saying 'yeh Vegas is great to go, you can just go and start talking to someone at a bar and within an hour you're best man at their wedding!' but I know i'm not that sort of person and i'm just a bit worried that I'm going to be bored and lonely. I will hopefully be spending most of my time playing poker but I don't want to be staring at my hotel room TV for the rest of my time in Vegas because I have nothing to do or nowhere to go.

Has anyone been to Vegas for the WSOP alone before? If so, any advice? Recommended or not?

Thanks in advance for any tips which will hopefully help me solve this internal dilemma.

    James
