Noooooooooooooo you just don't understand you people.

Wait till we're chasing 380 on Sunday and Trott is on 60 off 80 balls.

    It's not good enough.

    You'll seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    ----------------------------------------

Bang were 140-4 when I woke up, feared the worst, but saw that Tamim got another solid 44........

Big score around the corner for him.

dohhh boy i can understand that you always dismiss my views about trott after all its just 1 guys opinion versus anothers, but now you have dismissed the biews of a guy who has played test crciket for england , a guy who im sure you will admit is much better placed to give a honest decent opinion that should be respected...in fact JJ your about the only person i have ever heard talk about trott like this. now i know you yorkshire boys are stubborn but even you have to admit maybe just maybe your wrong and everyone else in the world is correct

    ENGLAND NEED TROTT

England need a man like Trott that comes in an anchors the innings yes JJ he might had 60 of 80 but then people around him need to be upping the RR (run rate). If Trott bats through the innings and gets around 90 of 110 the rest of the team should be looking to scoring atleast 200+

Overall we need Trott to anchor the innings Strauss has showed that he can accelerate

Just realised Mendis isn't even playing for Sri Lanka today......

    ????????

    -----------------------------------------------------------

The Trott debate will run and run and run.

Nobody wants him to go out and win the world cup for England more than I do.

As for disagreeing with Ed, surely thats nothing compared to me disagreeing with Andy Flower and the selectors?

My point about that guy....not only is he in-capable of fullfilling the role he is required at number 3......

It's the pressre he puts on more talented players who have to wait around for a bat while he scratches his way to 60 off 80 then gets out trying to accellerate.

He doesnt score 100 off 120 balls anywhere near enough to justify his selection. The times he does, great. The times he doesn't (the big games against the best teams) he leaves the more powerful, more talented lower order little chance of recovering the game for England.

The guy has been unbelievably fortunate with his ODI career so far, he's scored sooooooooo many soft rns, 50/60 not outs against the minnows, or when we're chasing 200 to win and he can coast his way to yet another "average boosting" score.

I think after the world cup he should take the decision away from the selectors and retire from limited overs cricket.

Anyone remember how we won the world 20 20 cup less than a year ago??

Out and out attack, no fear cricket, packing the order with batsmen who can hit 6s and score 20 off an over.

But fingers crossed, Trott might come out on Sunday morning and do a Sehwag!!! Lol ;)

    Here it comes then.

    70/1 off 9 overs.

Openers got him off to a flyer....

Come in and express yourself Trott, what have you got??????????????????? ....................

How ul is KP btw :(

    FAIL

Least he failed relatively quickly, gg, now goooooooooo BELL!!!

dont really have any advice on bets for the tournament as i would not want anyone following my advice but just wanted to respond to what i have read about the england team, directed at you mainly jj...trott is our only world class batsmen on current form and our main hope of getting anywhere in this world cup...he should be the first name on the teamsheet, certainly ahead of bell and kp.

Poor effort Ed...not knowing that Strauss is one-day captain! Even Hartigan knew!

Now that Gayle has got a start, I feel this could be a "bet defining innings"

It's set up perfectly for him....

    Goooooooooooooooooooo !!!!

    EDIT !!!!!!!!! FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn batting powerplay. What a wasted opportunity that was. Still, 80 gets him back in the hunt.

What a game yesterday - gonna watch the highlights again tonight! 8- />

Obv Doh knows his cricket but he also thought Bresnan was useless a while back (although a lot of people did tbf).

However, Bres and Trott have an inner steel and belief which make them essential for England as the team is historically never far from exposing a soft centre as we nearly saw again yesterday when they did their best to throw the game away in the last ten overs.

Anyway, tournie is warming up nicely (even though it is too long and badly formatted - I would have liked to have seen 16 teams in four groups for round 1 followed by a super eight stage instead of quarter finals. Also play two games a day in round 1 so tournie is finished in a month - no WC in any sport should last longer than that imo).

I didn't say he was useless.....

Although If I wasn't a Yorkshireman I may have done, as he's a Tyke he gets a few "DOHH Points" head start on the rest.

I also think the commentators/pundits raving about his performance yest was o.t.t, it was good, but the damage was done. Abit like Trott scores "soft runs" that don't really matter - those were soft wickets.

    -----------------------------------------------------

On the subject of team selection, Bopara is a MUST at 5/6.

If we're playing Yardy as a 5th specialist bowler, I never thought I'd say it, but I guess we cud do without Collingwood......

I prefer Collingwood, Bopara and Yardy all in the team, and play just 2 "fast bowlers", but if they're gonna go with 3 quick men, Colly has to go, and Ravi in.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Agree with the criticism of the format, but it's more cricket to watch, so it's hard to get too upset about it.

  • edited February 2011

Yeah, it's almost like we've got to drop Anderson... (well we won the 20/20 without him right?).

I think Colly still has a lot to bring to the table to leave him out (bat, ball&field). So yeah, two pacemen should be the way to go with our squad and Asian conditions. Also, WHY don't we use Ravi as a bowler? Doesn't he have a golden arm as a partnership breaker in domestic cricket?

As for format - doing it my way means we get to see two more teams so we can squeeze in the likes of Afghanistan (it is good to watch the minnows sometimes, Charles Coventry is my new favourite player 8- />).

Also, we then have more games during the Super Eights between the bigger teams making a thriller like yesterday much more meaningful too.

i agree with mr dohhhh about bopara i feel we should def find a place for him but i would imagine the selectors would bring him in place of yardy, if this is the case i would prefer the sussex man..i would personally play 2 seamers and have colly/ravi and yards but i dont think they will, so presuming theey play 3 seamers it has to be broad/bresnan and shazhad...jimmy anderson should have a little break until the world cup is over...

as for tournament structure my own feelings were for a 12 team tournwy with 4 groups of 3,top 2 going through to finals...i think it is importnat the icc let the small guys have a go but i also understand they want to shorten the competition, this option has both..draw would be seeded so for example

    india/new zealnad/associate
    sri lanka/pakistan/associate
    south africa/west indies/bangladesh
    australia/england/zimbabwe

finally for all you guys that bet on the outcome of the game just want to tell you in case you dont already know that you win....you either get your money back or it will be settled as a dead heat as the draw was not offered...

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease dont let ireland beat us!!!!

I checked the odds after englands innings and the odds were so high for ireland to win i was going to put bet on but forgot!!!

England were 250/1 on to win too ffs!
  • edited March 2011
Yep OBRIEN going absolutely barmy, is there a ball that he cant hit for 6!
  • edited March 2011
Im watching it, id be loving it if it wasnt v England, just got his 100 in 50 balls quickest world cup 100 ever
  • edited March 2011

Amazing innings - yep Donkey, I was thinking of putting a pound on at 100/1 for Ireland at half time but didn't! 8-<

Edit - BBC says they were 400/1 at one point!! We need wickets fast!
  • edited March 2011

    I'm enjoying it.

I want them to get there.

And I've backed England to win the whole thing!

Shouldn't harm our chances of that happening tho we'll still qualify.
  • edited March 2011
    400/1 ?!?!!?!! Whattttt

Yeah sky bets odds were over 100-1 once there 1st wicket went!

My fiver would of looked pretty good right now!

    FML!
  • edited March 2011

And Ireland win by 3 wickets!!!

Amazing game - they may really regret losing to Bangladesh now, that could prove the difference between them qualifying or not.

Incredible knock by O'Brien - can't wait to watch it on telly later!
  • edited March 2011
I missed the Ireland innings as I was at work, but I'm genuinely gobsmacked. What an achievement by the Irish. I never thought they would get anywhere near it.

As for england, we have scored 290+, 338 and 327, yet only won 1 game.

Were we poor in the field again? Or was it just poor bowling?
  • edited March 2011
    Foooooooooooooook

I miss 3 overs of this mornings game, with my 2 star man going head to head, and Tamim's out for a duck.

Really struggling with the main bet now, especially if someone gets a big score for the Bangladeshis!

150 all out and Gayle to cruise to an easy 80 n.o ftw.

    :)

Just so depressing waking up to that.

Hope it's not gonna be a day of failure at the tables too :(

    What a result.

Great to see some beauties from Jimmy - hope he's back.

Drop Yardy for Colly and I think we've got a team.

Ok, now watch us lose under the lights vs the Bangles, lol.

nothing wrong with yardy mate has been our most consistent one day bolwer over last year, if u bring back colly you need to drop a seamer..but they wont so there you are....
