"Every Hand Played" by Gus. Well, Dylan......

edited May 2011 in Poker Chat

Some years ago, Gus Hansen recorded every hand he played in the Aussie Millions, & eventually trned it into a book.

So, last week, young Dylan played the GUKPT Walsall & did a similar thing. Except it was quite a bit, umm, shorter.

He sent it to me, & so, with his permission, I am going to release it on here "level by level".

Depending on how much - or little - feedback there is, I'll release one Level every day or so.

The idea is to debate & discuss the play, could he or should he have played any hand different, better, or even at all?

Dyl will respond to your comments & critique where appropriate.

I hope we can do more of this, but it is important, even if criticising his play (which is absolutely fine to do) that we do so in a civil manner.

So, to set the scene.....

The Tourney was the £1,070 buy in GUKPT, & was at Walsall.

It was 15,000 starting chips, & a 1 hour clock all the way, with "all levels", antes kicking in at 200-400 I think.

There were two opening flights, the first had 100+ runners, the second a good few less.

The two Flights merged on Day Two, which was Saturday. But we need not concern ourselves with that......

One aspect you might consider here is that Dyl had sold a goodly part of his action, at 1:1.

This may or may not change how he played the Tourney, I don't know. I'm pretty sure it would affect me, to be honest, carrying the weight of other people's money, though it should not, of course.

I'll Post the first segment shortly.

This idea will either be brilliant, or sink like a stone. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.....

Sorry to be stupid, 2nd time youv'e said this, but what does it mean, is 1:1 selling 50% of himself?

i believe it means say he sold 30% of him for 30% of the buyin. often players will 'mark up' if they think they have an edge and are selling action and/or to help cover travel/accomodation

so they may sell 20% of their action, but to buy that 20% it would cost someone 25% of the total buyin. (this would be him selling at a markup of 1.25)

i think my maffs are correct there!

Did you buy in direct or satt in Dyl? Any nerves about the buy in or just another day at the office?

I bought in direct on the Thursday evening at the Casino but I did sell % of myself to three backers.

It was the highest BI tourney I have ever played, £550 was the previous highest and I have played quite a few of them. I wan't to nervous tbh in the sense of the BI because my share was an amount that I can shrug my shoulders to losing and I happily accept that but I was a bit nervous when it came to the play. I was worried that the players would destroy me and that I would let myself and the backers down in that sense.

Im relatively new to live poker and especially at £550+ BI levels but if I had to BI tomorrow I would not be in the least bit nervous tbh.

    lol, Class Pic!!

I sent tikay some hands but they were not done with the idea to put them on the forum, this is tikay's idea and Im happy to help, some hands are quite brief and some were ommitted but once I see what hands he posts other smaller hands may have affected my play and if so I will be happy to discuss those hands as well in the lead up to the hands he posts.

Im lucky to have friends like Wayne and Dan who have played these levels in the past and they were always at hand to reassure me that I would slot in fine and also give me advice if I ever needed it - it's great to be able to share information and knowledge with great players who have been there done that and got the T-shirt and that does lessen the nerves tbf.

Were you worried when you saw your table draw?

It looked to me to be furthest away from the dining area.....:))))

Good stuff, nice to see a bit of team effort even if it's every man for himself at the end of the day!

I don't think it's my place to name my stakers tbh m8, if they want to let people know who they are then that is up to them, they are regular stakers for me and would never put their names in here without their permission. They are all well known on SKY and will all read this thread and if they see fit then they may let you know :)

There were a lot of hands that tikay will be unaware of tbh, I remember them all but they are all of me raisisng pre and cbetting the flop or raising pre and folded around etc type hands and are quite boring and just standard at the first few levels. I did have a hand v Orford and another v the Sky Qualifier, Nick which are not in the report and I may go into them if they are relevent to the hands Grandad posts. I only lasted 6 levels so not hard for me to remember some key hands (some of which are really embarassing) but in your situation running to the FT I would have barely remembered the hands that I reported to tikay tbh.

My next Big BI event is the £560 UKIPT at Brighton in July. I will not be playing the Summer Series I don't think, will be interested to see how the re-entry concept affects the play, if at all. Im hoping to play a few DTD £334 again in the next few months especially now that they are 15K starting stacks.
