SRL: Introducing "Free Agency"

Last night, several people asked me which division I'm playing in.  The answer?  None of them!

When I enter the SRL events, I do so as a "free agent."

So, how would you like to "trade" for this free agent?  How would you like to swap finishing positions with me?

For the first four weeks of the SRL, I will allow TWO players from EACH division to make such a trade.

So, if you think a score of 77 (I finished 5th and 72nd in last night's tournaments) is more appealing than your current total, please read on...

    * Each SRL participant is allowed to request ONE trade between now and 15th June (Week 4 of the league).

    * If more than two players in a division request to trade in the same week, the "winners" will be drawn at random.

    * IMPORTANT: If your bid is unsuccessful, you will NOT be able to request another trade in future weeks.  Sorry!

So, if you wish to request a trade this week, please post your name and SRL division in this thread.  The trading window closes at 12pm tomorrow (Thursday 26th May).  Details of which trades have been successful will be posted shortly afterwards - along with the amended league tables.

As ever, if you have any questions, please ask.

(EDIT:  I will allow players who missed last night's tournaments to take part in the Free Agency process for ONE WEEK ONLY.  In future, Weeks 2-4, only players who've entered BOTH events can apply for a trade!)

    Yes, that could happen.

But nothing's stopping the players who "did play and pay" from requesting a trade!

Not liking the idea of someone who has 'paid' for a night of poker being overtaken by someone who hasn't played or paid.

I can understand your need to keep all players interested for the 5 weeks of the league but I would of hoped to of seen a better solution TBH.

great idea.  might need a tweak though to offer trade only to those who paid both entries.  anyway, interesting, very interesting.

i paid and didnt play. how i roll.

Please don't assume that it will only be players who didn't "pay" who request a trade.

In fact, I notice that JockBMW - who played both events last night - has requested a trade.

Both chrispip and MAXALLY are also welcome to ask to swap finishing positions with me, if they so desire.

I'm sorry if you don't like the idea of Free Agency.  This league is meant to be a bit of fun, hence the twists and turns along the way.  Yes, there are some great prizes attached, but please don't take it too seriously.

In response to your feedback, I have amended the "rules."  Please see my original post.

great.  but, as they say in legal circles, "for the avoidance of doubt, i do not wish to trade, defo."

I dont like it, it would be better if you done an average and discounted there 2 highest scores

I think this gives people an underserved opportunity which it is limited. Why cant it just be run fairly as above? that way those that missed the first 2 can still do well if they play all the remaining games, they could have easily registered and blinded out as Bigshann did and still got 35th in the DS although he did build it up to 12k in the first half hour

I will still be playing it but i think this is a silly idea and dont see how it can add any more to the event?

Are you saying that the chance I'm giving these players is insufficient?

Regarding the idea being "silly," once again, I'd like to stress that this league is meant to be a bit of fun.  The addition of Free Agency is like playing poker with a joker in the deck, or making deuces wild.  It adds some spice!

All poker should be fun but this league will be equivalent to a buy in to the primo so I feel a few players (esp the lower BR ones) will be taking it very serious TBH.

+1 it was good fun regardless of any twists, i think as the rewards for finishing at the top will be good for us smaller bankroll players £55 primo entry + chance for entry to DTD final surely it should be on a level playing field

it is a level playing field.  i guess that people are thinking about what is best for them personally, not what is best for the tournament.  the twist is probably against my interests, the tweak is probably against my personal interests too.  but let's start thinking more clearly and safeguard the interests of all not just one person.

Well I was thinking on the overall situation for ALL the players TBF. The 'twist' will only benefit a couple of individuals and hinder more. Go figure.

Alan - the "twist" will (potentially) benefit eight players each week for four weeks.  That's 32 players.

Please remember that this is only the first week of the league!

Now, do you want to request a trade, or not? :-)

A random draw is a level playing field!!!

Yes, there's an element of chance...just like in a poker tournament (AK vs 77, anyone?)

Can I trade with Glitterbabe?...his a/c for mine thanks! Cheers.

BTW James, contrary to JJ's belief, I do appreciate you  running this league and the late night updates you do. I am just offering some 'opinion' on it; that's all.

+1 again JJ is obviously just brown nosing....

Valid point 32 people will benefit so not all, it shouldnt be like that it should be 1 per person for everyone or no one

i shouldnt really keep on because i wont be taking a trade and will still play it all, i can see why its been introduced but it just doesnt appeal to me, surely it does someone though :)

And I thank you for sharing your opinion, Alan.

There have been a lot of points-based leagues on Sky Poker recently.  I just wanted to do something different.  But I appreciate it's not to everyone's taste.

What if, hypothetically speaking, you bust early in both of next week's tournaments (variance can be a cruel mistress!) and I make two final tables?  Would you not be tempted...?

    The key difference being...

They now KNOW that they won't be able to trade in future weeks.  So, if they're "unable/can't be bothered" to play in the next three weeks, they're now aware that they won't be able to improve their scores.

And, now they've been warned, they may wish to follow in the footsteps of hurst05 (i.e. if they're unable to play, they can register for both tournaments and be blinded out).
