I entered two satellite tournaments for the same prize not knowing i would make it through the first time of asking, but i did. Then i almost made it the second time, what I want to know is could I have played twice in the same tournament if I had made it?

    Hi jamie,

    No - absolutely not!

    Sorry.

Some sites do have multi-entry Tourneys, but Sky Poker have no immediate plans to go down that road, so far as I know.

I think he means play it 1 week then hold back his second ticket until the next week......

Probably the same answer normally but if he mis-understtod he would prob get away with it...

Why enter 2 sats simultaniously for the same thing though???

    Aah, I seeeeeeee

You read the situation well, judging by your reply. I'm really not sure why anyone would enter 2 satellites for the same thing, to be honest.

It was the last 2 chances to satellite my way into the 12k bounty hunter at 8.00p.m for £1.60, while I was playing the second to last chance I didn't think I was going to make it so I registered for the last one at £1.60, which I nearly got through but luckily just cashed, then I just wondered would I have played both but now I know you don't, thanks.

    Hi llandody,

What exactly, if I may ask, would you like Sky Poker to do about all these so-called "bad players"? Ban them, so you only face good players? We'd never win then!

I'm afraid I don't subscribe to mocking lesser-skilled players, or berating their abilities. Respect your opponents, & you'll find your results will improve dramatically.

Poker must be the only game where participants complain about bad players.

The worse they are, the better it is. Embrace it.

Enjoy your poker, hopefully here at Sky Poker, but it's no different wherever we play, the range of skills our opponents possess will always vary.

If you can choose between playing less-skilled opponents, or really good ones, I'd strongly recommend you try beating the former. The latter are the ones to avoid.

    Have a good weekend.

    Hi chezzy.

Yes, a big ask, but off the top of my head, if you can include these tips, you'll be OK.

    1) Patience. One of THE biggest assets in poker. Without patience, you will lose money at poker.

    2) Understand, & use, "position", the most powerful weapon in poker. I doubt 20% of players understand the value of position. Exploit it, all day & all night.

    3) Only play with what you can well afford to lose. When you lose more than you can afford, the game is horrible. Don't go there.

    4) Win & lose with dignity. Nothing worse than a bad loser, except a bad winner.

    5) Enjoy the game for what it is. Few players have much of an edge, as there is so much luck involved, but follow the basics & you will not lose money over time.

    Good luck.

hi wondering if your can help settle a small debate i had last night? basically i was playing a cash game top 5 get paid theres 6 players left. player A has most chips, then player B, player C  is shortest in this hand other 3 not involved, as ABC all push all-in pre flop

    player A  has 99
    player B  has AA
    player C  has KQ

    flop K Q 2

    turn 7

    river 9

so obv player A wins other two are out but debate goes as who gets 5th place who gets bubble as player B says i had next most chips so im 5th regardless of hand. player C says but my hand beats your hand so im ranked higher than you because if player A werent in pot i would have doubled off player B and poker is all about who nhas best hand.

basically just wanting a answer to this so instead of saying well im almost sure you win, i can say actually the rule is you win as i see both points and have never realy thought about this situation thanks alot james

When you,ve had a bad result and reflect on it afterwards and you know you made the wrong move how do you get over it?

I got knocked out of the survivor final round after playing well, but when down to 2 players although I was behind on chips (4.7k  vs 7.3k with blinds still only 100/200) i still felt confident.

I then made one mistake by rasing with 6-4 off ( I had been at it for a while and should have slowed down) , then got involved on flop and didn,t hit when i shoved on turn

I could have been in the survivor final, but even 24 hours on i,m still beating myself about it as it could have been my biggest paydays to date and there are some gr8 prizes in that final

I haven,t played since because off it as Im not in the right frame of mind - Whats the best way off getting over it?

    Hi Tikay
    Keep up the good work

I am having a bad time of it at present. Can't shake players no matter what I do and sometimes it seems allin is the only option.
Not blaming them or Sky, just a run of bad luck. At nl4 you've got to expect it!

Any way my question is how do you or the pros you know cope with a downturn (mine as been about 6 months now). I've taken breaks, taken advice - some from you I think, etc..
Is it just a matter of playing through it, trying to adapt, and hope the cards don't hold a grudge for too long?
My first major downturn in under 2 years of playing, so still a youngster (in this at least!).

    thanks
    David

Hi Tikay, My poker name is Nano, I am new to playing on this site, although I did try it along time ago but got very frustrated, so I gave up for some time. I have heard you mention about a formula for playing sit and go and other tornaments. Can you please give me some starter hints.
      Kind regards,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

    Welcome back.

    SNG formula?

    Sit pretty tight early.

Don't fritter chips away by "limping", ever, in a SNG. Be disciplined, raise or fold.

As the SNG develops, gradually open up your range, but note the table dynamic first, if 1 or 2 players take a big hit early, or are clearly going to implode early, sit tighter for longer, & let them bust themselves.

Really, a SNG only starts on the Cash Bubble, so try to save your chips for then. At this stage, you can bet big, or even shove, ANY unopened Pots. NEVER be limping, or calling, on the Cash Bubble - it's raise/shove (usually the latter, due to blind sizes relative to stacks).

Don't take too many risks ion the Cash Bubble if one of the players is ultra-short stacked, just let the maths do the work.

    Good luck.

    Sorry to hear that, Walesy.

Grit your teeth & batten down the hatches, to play through it, or maybe take a short break.

Some players find a change of format helps - switch to SNG's, or DYM's, just to mess with the bad karma.

One quick thing though - lots of players confuse a downswing with poor play - sometimes we lose our discipline, forget the basics, & we blithely motor on without realising we have developed a leak in our game. Make sure you self-examine your game, to ensure you are not developing bad habits, or limping too much, or ignoring position.

Have you thought of changing your screen-name to "Englandsboy"? That might help.

Alternatively, just get as lucky as Orford did, in Leeds at the weekend. He actually WON an Event! I know, you could not make it up, could you?

    Hi Tikay

Was good to meet you at Leeds for the first time, trully you have too much energy. Anyways my question is, im trying to start to move up the stake Live at the moment, as i actually prefer to playing live, but now feel as though playing the same people all the time i can no longer progress my game, i know theirs, they know mine.

How would you suggest to a low stake live player moving up?

    Cheers.
    Don.

    Afternoon hinton,

You cannot avoid this, nor do you ever want to, & it should not trouble you.

In the example you quote, you win the hand 8 times out of 10, slightly more in fact, maybe 83 times in 100.

What's not to like about those odds? I'll take that every hand of poker I play!

    Please remember 2 things.

    1) If we can win the hand 83 times in 100, (until he goes skinto) so let's not begrudge our opponent who wins it 17 times every 100, that's a bit churlish, don't you think? If we win the coup 8 times in 10, should we really begrudge the villain winning it 2 times in 10? Give him some love!

    2) A little respect for our opponents (especially one's who don't play as well as us) goes a very long way. If you call them "fish" & think of them as "fish", karma will come up & bite you right on the nose. Karma is like that, it's a very clever thing. ;) Good players never disrespect bad players, it makes no sense.

    Good luck mate.

Beat yourself with a big stick for days on end - then you learn from it, & don't make the same mistake again!

    Hi Don,

Good to meet you, too, at the weekend.

Live Tourney poker is just about the most fun you can have with your clothes on, but I would guess that less than 5 players in 100 makes money at it over the long-term.

I'd stick mainly to Online poker, & when you nick a few bob, treat yourself to a live game. Live games are VERY soft, but the expenses & time, & the fact you can only play 1 per night, mean variance is a killer.
