Are all the Mini events now going to be priced at £5.50?

It seems the last 4 nights they have been and I understood that they were going to alternate from £3.30 and £5.50 nightly.

There has been no official announcement as far as I can see so I am asking for some clarification on this matter please.

    Regards,

    Alan

    Morning Alan.

I am a bit behind with stuff, & gave myself a strict "to-do" list last night, so I'll clear a few other things first then reply to this.

Probably better if I do so on Daggy's Thread, & I have already mentioned on there that I would.

In the interim, the short answer to your question is "no".

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Hi mr Kendall. Sowi forget my silly ak vs q9 post that was just abit of fun. On a more serious note, The mind its avery interesting topic. from the age of 4 till about 16/17 i was a big watcher of the wwf/wwe as kids do lol. But afew week ago i googled "were are they now wee". I came across a interesting documentary about a wrestler who killed his wife & kid. The documentary was about why he did what he did. They came to the conclusion that because he was a wrestler(even tho its all scripted) his head as took such a poundin over the years it was like he had alzeimars(spelt wrong maybe) & the brain of a 85 yr old person so couldnt have know what he was doing. They also mentioned as it was in american the incident happened that its regular in american football. Now these were scientist speaking about this, but ive only heard of 1 incident in the uk with a rugby player taking his own life afew years back. Whats your thoughts.
    Posted by seppe
Yes, I am familiar with the tragedy, the chap's name was Chris Benoit I believe.

I really have no idea if his actions were connected to the fact he took a few hits to the head over the years, or whether steroid use contributed to it.

It is my impression that safety standards in NFL & Rugby Union, especially as to head injuries, are extremely high, & I'm not aware that it is "common" to see such incidents amongst the NFL fraternity.

Steroid use, maybe more so in NFL, I really don't know. Personally, I would give life bans to anyone found using steroids & the like, when we start altering the chemical balance of our bodies there is no knowing where it may end.

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Hi Tikay Was playing in pub last night in the Redtooh Leugue 1 player was away from the table (outside talking to his g/f). His stack was a mess - all over the place in a pile but not over the line The dealer stacked them into piles. Then one of the lads m8,s who was watching said he (the dealer) wasn,t allowed to do that and knocked them over again, claiming if it was a casino he wouldn,t be allowed to do that. Even though someone coming from out of the game and knocking a chip stack over wouldn,t be allowed either My thoughts on this were the dealer ( also the TD , but a young lad who didn,t want any trouble) was right to do so as there were higher denomonation chips such as chips for a 1000 buried under his 100chips It caused abit of a row and i didn,t get involved as i,d forgotten about that rule showing the higher denominationb chips , which im sure ive heard from Sky TV Am i right and was the guy out of order knocking the chip stack back over. I,ve got a feeling i already know the answer to this but can you pls confirm this so i can tell him nxt week. Ps - From original post do you think i,m taking the right path to be a better live player and to play bigger live events? Hope you are well Thx Paul

    Morning Paul,

    Apologies for the slow response.

The Dealer has every right to tidy up the players chips if they were all higgeldy piggeldy as you describe. Live Poker Rules are unusually agreed on the fact that, (words to the effect)...

"A players chips must at all times be stacked such that other players can clearly see them, including & especially the high-denom chips".

In addition, the Dealer has complete charge of the Table.

Other players, not in the game, of course, have NO RIGHT to touch anyone's chips, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. In practice of course, it happens all the time, railers DO knock over players stacks for "japes", but it's all common-sense really, in a small game, it should not be viewed too harshly.

Are you going the "right route" for Live Poker?

In truth, I have mixed views on Pub Leagues & the like.

    For:

Anything that brings new players into the game MUST be a good thing. It's cheap, its fun, what's not to like?

    Against:

The rules are poorly applied, & I think this is nothing short of disastrous for the game. When starting a new pursuit, it is critical that newbies are taught the basics properly. I have done a good deal of Pub League stuff, all over the UK, mainly for charity & the like, & it pains me terribly to see players acting out of turn, touching the chips in the pot, making change from the pot, splashing the pot etc & not being corrected for it. Our lovely game will be as good or bad as we make it.

    Hi Tikay,

I am seeking some advise on accomadation tips i will be going to Las Vegas between may 29th and July 16th during the world series of poker.
I will be playing in the viva las vegas sats to try and win a package but if i dont get it i will be coming over anyway to play cash games during the wsop.  I went to Las Vegas last summer on holiday and stayed at the Imperial Palace and since then ive been itching to get back!  Id love to be there for the whole series to play some cash games and also to take in the whole world series of poker schedule.  My plan is basically to enjoy the experience and if i so happen to make any money while im there then that will be a bonus.

Was wondering if you had any ideas about the cheapest way for me to go about my accomadation for 2 and a half months as even staying in the Imperial Palace for 3 months could cost around $8000. Do you know if there would be a better option off the strip in an apartment maybe or do you think its possible for me to work out some kind of deal with ceasars entertainment to get a cheap room for 3 months if i am playing cash games in there poker rooms everyday. Ive heard it may be possible to get a reduced rate in their rooms from this.

With regards to an apt at the moment i will be going over myself at the minute so an apt might be pointless if its only for myself but it would be great if anyone else wanted to join me nearer the time to split the costs of an apt or a hotel.

I called a few of the casinos in Las Vegas this evening and some of them told me i could stay for 28 nights then have to check out for 2 days before i could come back at other casinos they told me i could stay a max of 12 nights before checking out and back in 2 days later due to Nevada law.

I reliase this is very early days with regards to this but i have been told by others that its best to get my accomadation booked early to get a good deal.

Not sure if youll be able to help me with this Tikay but i figured you would be a good person to ask as you have been to Las Vegas a lot.

Hope to see you at 1 of the upcoming spts soon.

    Cheers Conor

Is Julain Thew due back on the show soon, as its great to hear his views/ways he would play hands?

Also I know you said u want to have 'omaha babies'!  Will there be a show/slot about omaha sometime, that will also show omaha hands on the TV?

    Thx for the answer

I,m trying to balance it at the moment between playing live and online as i,m not getting much chance to play online as i was afew weeks ago due to playing live most nights of the week and as a well known poker player on here told me the best way to practise/get better  is get to play as many hands  as possible which you don,t get to do live although ive made many new poker friends who i can discuss hands with etc

    Take care

    Hi Tikay,
I am hopeing to enter the tournament in Luton but need to ask a bit of a favour.
I suffer from an illness known as COPD (a lung condition) and struggle to walk far. Along with that the medication I am on causes me to go to the loo quite a lot.
Would it be possible to be seated on a table that is convenient for the toilets?
I appreciate that on reaching the final table that arrangement would cease.

    Hi Vis, (Hi Vis.....!)

Yes, I can arrange that without a problem. As you will understand, some complications may ensue, but such as it is able, yes, it will be sorted.

Look forward to seeing you there. Come & see me when you arrive, & I'll deal with it then.

    Hi Derek, (see, I noticed.....!),

I expect Thewy will be back on 861 again soon, yes.

Omaha on 861? Yes, I hope it will be possible soon, though it won't be shown very often, as it is such a minority interest. It's incredible how we all have such different views. I saw a young man posted a few days ago that he'd "rather hang himself" than play Omaha, & there's me saying I want "Omaha babies".

Neither view is right or wrong, just different opinions. Lovely.

only recently started playing poker (always been good with numbers so thought why not) and so far every table i play at i come away up (not always by much) am i just being lucky?
    Posted by dveat
    Hi dveat,

Not necessarily, but more than likely, yes.

You have most likely had an early introduction to that wonderful thing, (without which poker would be so much poorer), variance, or more correctly, positive variance. Variance is female, & she has a bad-tempered sister by the name of Negative. She will come & visit you soon, & dish out a few bad beats.

You must embrace both of them, because they are your friends, & you must respond to them equally. If you learn to embrace Variance, you'll LOVE poker, but if you cannot cope with Variance, & not everyone can, especially inexperienced players, my advice would be that poker is not the game for you.

Enjoy it, & let us know how you get on.

Tikay, what should you do when you lose 90% races and lose 90% time with KK and AA allin preflop. What should I do? Give up the game, the game mayn't be for me?
    Posted by silchar
    Hi sil,

If you think like that, then yes, poker is probably not for you.

The reality, of course, is that scenario is only likely to occur in the extreme short-term, & in fact almost certainly would never happen over any sensible-sized sample.

But.....if you really think it did occur to you, & it upset you, made you feel bad, or uncomfortable, then yes, I would suggest poker is not the ideal game for you.

Lots of people come on this thread & say they have lost x consecutive times with A-A - one chap said he had lost with A-A 19 consecutive times! I asked him to send me the Hand Histories, but of course he could not, as it was his mind playing tricks.

Hope your luck changes soon, & remember the old adage......

Mr. Kendall... The Poker Clinic show has just ended and for another week it seems like there were too few hands to make up the hour. Is it now going to be the norm that the second half of the hour is going to be made up of Bounty Hunter hands? I think it's a shame as, back in the days when there were forum comments included, I thought it was probably the best show of the week. I've been sending some hands in myself because I don't want the show to go the way of chat box, but it seems like it's always the same few sending their hands in. Any thoughts about how more people could be encouraged to send in their hands and questions?
    Posted by BorinLoner
    Hi Borin,

It is a shame, yes, but that Show is a product of what the Producer is given to work with, & if he is only sent "bad" hands, there is not much he can do. As poker players, we generally get what we deserve.

There has been quite a trend towards players asking for hands to be shown on 861 simply because they want to see what the opponent had.

I cannot think of a worse reason to show a hand, & it has very limited interest to anyone except the sender, and we can spot the hands a mile off, with our eyes closed. But as I said, that Show is a product of what players send us, & if they only send "bad" hands, there is not much we can do about it really.

Hopefully it will improve soon though, failing which the Show format will have to change.

    Hi Conor,

6 weeks in Vegas next year? How utterly wonderful!

$8,000 sounds a lot, but unless you share an apartment, it's actually very good value, & any comparable Hotel in the UK would cost three times as much. Anyway, good things do cost money, & for a poker players, it does not get better than Vegas at WSOP time. If I did not have my job here, I'd go there every year for 6 or 8 weeks, it's the greatest, so once they put me out to graze, I'll be doing that gig every year.

Sharing an apartment with other poker players makes it cheaper, but - & this is just my personal opinion - I could not share a place with other poker players for 8 weeks, or not unless they promised not to talk poker 24/7!

The "12 night rule"? Don't worry about that, they have to tell you that, but the reality is much different. Book for 11 or 12 nights, & then when you arrive & check-in, just explain you want to stay for x weeks or whatever, & they'll sort if for you there & then. You will NOT have to check out & check back in every 12 nights trust me, though you may need to refresh your room key once every 12 days, which is no big deal.

The Vegas Hotels are wonderful, especially compared to what we have become used to in the UK. Most of us were not raised in luxury, & walking into a Vegas Hotel Suite is one of the great thrills of the Vegas Poker Dream, they are huge, well-appointed, with every possible mod-con.

You are a very lucky man to be able to contemplate 6 or 7 weeks in Vegas. Don't spoil it by trying to save a few dollars on accommodation. You know it makes cents. ;)

    PS - Enjoy!

Hi there Tikay just a quick thought, i know there is a consolation prize for winning the main and final tabling the mini but Gazza127 was horrifically close last night by winning the mini and second in the main and i think some consolation prize should be given to players doing this, could you ask the powers that be, because if i were Gazza127 i would be sick as a parrot.
    thanks Lee

Well I have at last caught up with replies, so this seems a good time to draw a line under "Ask tikay".

3 years, 2 weeks & 2 days, 4,700+ posts, & more fun than I can ever begin to tell you.

Many thanks to every single one of you for making the thread such fun, & I was very grateful for the chance to try & help players, most especially those new to our wonderful game, or who struggled with some aspects of it, especially handling the essential adversity of poker.

    Why? 2 reasons mainly.

First, some players are inhibited from replying on this thread, as they think it would be rude or improper to reply on my behalf. This Community is at its very best when a newbie comes on, wide-eyed, & asks innocent newbie questions, regulars here fall over themselves to help, it is truly a thing of beauty, & we see a refreshing lack of ill-manners & sarcasm on those threads. So we want to encourage those threads, & closing "Ask tikay" will assist in that respect.

I've also been tasked with bringing three very exciting new Sky Poker projects to fruition, & I need to be able to find time to focus on those for a while, they are very important, & very exciting. If I got any of them round my neck I would die of embarrassment, especially as they were not my baby, so to speak, but I have been entrusted with them.

I need to clear the decks a bit to do these, & I have other plates to spin, here & elsewhere, too. Not enough hours in the day!

So, if you have ANY questions for Sky Poker, or myself, start a thread on the Community, & you'll be well served by our wonderful Community, & I'll chip in as & when needed.

I'll "unsticky" the thread now, & lock it, & it will slip away quietly.

As I used to say on my first ever TV Series, back in 2005....

    it's been emotional
