In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Sorry to hear that, Walesy. Grit your teeth & batten down the hatches, to play through it, or maybe take a short break. Some players find a change of format helps - switch to SNG's, or DYM's, just to mess with the bad karma. One quick thing though - lots of players confuse a downswing with poor play - sometimes we lose our discipline, forget the basics, & we blithely motor on without realising we have developed a leak in our game. Make sure you self-examine your game, to ensure you are not developing bad habits, or limping too much, or ignoring position. Have you thought of changing your screen-name to "Englandsboy"? That might help. Alternatively, just get as lucky as Orford did, in Leeds at the weekend. He actually WON an Event! I know, you could not make it up, could you?

LOL!!!How could you say such a thing! I take back all the nice things I've said about you on other threads! MODS!!
Wasn't it a blue moon at the weekend? Maybe that's why Orford won? Or was it bribery?
This is why I like SP, can't beat a bit of banter. (It was banter right? You're not serious?!!)

Good idea with the hand history. Have been trying to develop my game with the help of people on here. Maybe something has sneaked in when I wasn't looking!

Will have to get things sorted out (with the Boss) and make it to a SPT. Now what can i bribe her with..........

    Thanks for the advice
    Hopefully see you soon (ish)

    Hi Tikay,
watched the live stream to leeds on Sat, well done to all. I was just wondering whats the score for railing and playing in side events at the SPT'S, although live in weston I fancy a couple of days in Cardiff. Is it okay to pop along evening times and join in side events and rail final stages of main event, that is of course if I'm not lucky enough to satellite in!1

    Hi Mr, err, Large.

Sorry I missed this yesterday, but I'll arrange free entry for you into next Wednesday's TOTTY.

You have to wear your hat whist playing it though, OK?

PS - Unless I am mistaken, it was not for wearing the "best" hat, I'm sure I heard it described by a fine judge of fashion matters as the "daftest hat", no?

It is being promoted at the moment by Trevor Harris, unless I'm much mistaken.

Sadly, no matter how much you & I may wish otherwise, because Omaha is such a wonderful game, one that demands & requires much more thinkage than NLH, it is not very popular with the masses, & never will be, I'm afraid. But hopefully we can drum up a little more interest than has hitherto been the case.

I'll also do an Omaha only PTP evening soon.

    Keep playing the beautiful game!

    (Sorry it's long)

Hi, I am a 19 y/o student (money is tight) and hence my age have only been playing online poker for a year... I play for fun but it's more fun when your winning and when your winning your winning money... I started with initialy £5 which I slowly lost (and planned to lose, to learn the online game) then I put in another £5 to play with, I play s&g DYM 60ps mainly and make a small profit from that nothing significant, over this year I have withdrawn a total of £30 from my account back into my bank, leaving me with (currently) £13.51. Most of my profit has come from playing free rolls I have got to the last table 3 times if not defiantly 2 times... comming 1st winning £42  (out of over 1k players about 1.5k think it was 0 points buy in promo month... £200 Night Owls FR). I also came 3rd (should have come second...) out of almost 500 player more resontaly winning £9.00. I know what your thinking I am making a lose on the DYM but I am not I have tried to enter some big torniments with large buy ins without sucess...

I have played about 60 free rolls so I am not sure if thats good going or not...basicly need some direction:

    Question:
Should I carry on with earning poker points through dym for free rolls or is there any low enough buy ins for tornements that are similar to the free rolls? (obviously free rolls are easier as allot of poeple sign up and dont play aswell as the amount of less able players attracted to them)

I do tend to enjoy tornements more than the fast s&g games.

    Hi Paul

It sounds like you are not doing too much wrong tbh, I would suggest, think about your position on the table, and the knowledge of the other players that you should have by the bubble, can you get someone off of a hand to a raise, or re-raise?, will they fold to a bet?, are they a station i.e. call anything?, don't overbet the pot, I also think, it depends on the level of dym,s you are playing, if they are lower levels, you are more likely to get a call, but, don't go moving up levels until you can continually beat the level you are on, it is possible, another idea for you, copy and paste some of the hands into The Poker Clinic if you are at all unsure you played it correctly, you will get some great responses.

One more little thought, depending on your chipstack at the bubble, if you have something like 5-6K, don't get involved in too many pots, let the other knock each other out :)

Let us know how you get on :)

Good luck (Unless you are on my table :))

    Hi Tikay,

Been watching on Skypoker TV the series of great interviews, Ian Frazer etc, by James Hartigan titled 'Poker Legends' or the like.

They were filmed in a spectacular candlelit wine cellar, maybe in a restaurant, club or casino!! If its someones Home I am very jealous!!

Simple question, Where is it?  Would love to see it !! As it is obviously laid out by a Big Wine Buff

Would be great if whoever looks after it could post on ma Wine & Dining Thread,[in the shed], if poss, would love to speak to them, am only an enthusiatic amatuer, [like poker, lol], but find the real pro.s fascinating to talk to, [ditto, lol]

    Thanks mate

    Run well

    Hi,

I'll ask & let you know. I believe it was either a Hotel by the river in Richmond, which we use for filming frequently (Petersham Hotel) or the basement of a Club in Kensington.

    Hi Buzzi,

I had some difficulty in tracing your original question, but I think it was this, in which I replied to someone else, & you commented.....

    My initial reply was....

".....But at Micro-Levels, if you just plan to have a little fun, the rules are different, really. If £10 is all you can afford, or all you wish to risk, that's fine, but Bankroll Management is tough at those Levels, it does not really work, truth to tell. If I were you, I'd relax, & enjoy it. Play some 2p-4p cash, or a small DYM, just dabble around, & see if you enjoy it. Poker is a fun game - until losing money starts to hurt.   If you can afford to lose a tenner, enjoy it, it's the price of as few pints, or a night at the cinema. If you can't afford to lose a Tenner, my advice would be don't risk it.  A friend of mine derives more enjoyment from poker than anyone I know. She used to Deposit £25 per month, by Standing Order, on the 1st of every month. When it had gone, she stopped playing until the 1st of next month, rinse repeat. She had no illusions of making money, she felt £25 per month was a reasonable price for a fun hobby. I met with her about 2 years ago & pointed out a few leaks in her game, mainly position, & serial-calling, never raising, finding soft spots, that sort of thing. She's never deposited a penny since, & has over £300 in her Account now.   Just enjoy the game, & if you have any questions, post them in the Poker clinic, or here. But if losing a tenner is going to hurt, or is more than you can sensibly afford, please don't play poker - you won't enjoy it. Take care now.
    Posted by Tikay10...."

    And you said.....

    "....Hi Tikay

I too am very new to the game and this forum, however, I wondered if you could please elaborate on the advice you gave your friend as I am having a real problem with consistency - sometimes okay sometimes very very bad and I get demoralised.  I do love the game but I have to be careful with my expenditure.
Would much appreciate your further comments.
Thanks very much - have a nice Easter all
    Kind regards
    Buzzi"....

I can't add much via the Forum to what I said, really. Just remember the very basics - betting is ALWAYS better than callling, position is hugely important, don't be afraid to let go of big hands if the betting tells you something looks bad, keep any eye on your chip-stack, so that when it gets down to 10 or 12 Big Blinds, you ONLY shove all-in, & NEVER call etc.

And please remember, no matter how good you are, you will not cash more than once or twice every 8 or 10 Tourneys, because of the very nature of Multi-Table Tourneys, & "variance".

    Good luck.

    Hi Wavebreak,

I strongly recommend you play the lower buy-in Deepstacks - you cannot beat them for value, & the players play them "properly", but in good spirit.

Try this, the Monday Forum DTD - it takes place every Monday, & if you play all three Tourneys, it only costs £5.50, or you could just play any of the three, the cheapest is only £1.10. The players in that will make you extremely welcome.

    See HERE

    Hi Paul,

Barry has summed it up pretty well, I can't add much.

But when you are 4 handed in a DYM, in ALMOST every case, remember...

NEVER call -unless you have a big hand and are last to act, always JAM.

Try to be first into any Pot.

If you have less than 10 Bigs, just jam all-in in any unopened spots.

If one of the 4 players is very low on chips, wait until he busts & try to keep out of trouble. Don't be taking risks you do not need to.

4 handed, do not even "make up" in the Small Blind - you must either bet, or fold.

Position, stack sizes, & betting not calling, are KEY when down to 4.

    Hi Who,

No, moving up the levels will not help much.

If you are being beat by "bad shoves" it suggests you are CALLING these shoves.

As a general rule, be the shover, not the bettor. You can shove with complete air, but mostly you cannot call even with marginals.

So, turn it upside down & be the shover in future - your results will insta-improve.

JHmm, that's very sad to hear, babydog, but Sky Poker cannot interfere with the RNG so that players do not get outdrawn on the river!

It's the very nature of poker that the River, which constitutes 20% of the Board, will mean drawing hands "get there" quite often. And sometimes it is YOU with the drawing hand that outbinks a better starting hand - or it should be, if you are playing the game correctly.

Whether you play Live, or Online, on ANY poker site, it will be the same, I'm afraid.

I am not aware of any sites which interfere with the RNG to deliver "non-outdraw" hands on the River. They would, of course, be acting improperly by so doing.

I know this bit is for asking questions but... Thanks for your advice it really paid off I feel like a capable player among the low tornments came 1 position of a prize the first game I played which wasn't a deepstack and I got beaten by the blinds... Played a low deep stack and came 2nd winning a respectable £16.80, I have signed up for the monday club as I am going to name it :P but may have to miss this Monday as I should be revising I have an exam the following day.

    Thanks again,
