In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Hi Norman, I think it's now done every week on "Poker News at Ten", which is usually narrated & written by James Hartingan Hartigan. Pardon the shameless spam, but I go to Vegas on Monday for a 2 week holiday, playing da pokerz 24/7, prior to 2 weeks "work" when the VLV crew arrive on July 4th/5th. I'll be Tweeting daily, from the Tables, & with up to the moment Vegas news, so if you want to follow it, just sign up to Twitter (it's completely free) & "follow" me, my moniker is Tony_Kendall I think.

    Hi TK,

A hand that played out last night in our local league.. Your thoughts/comments please.

Player 1 is holding full house A's full of 2's, player 2 is holding 2's full of A's, all five cards have been laid and players are deliberating over bets. Big pot has built up through flop, turn etc.

Player 1 raises 20k, player 2 throws in two chips representing the 20k and at the same time says "all in", player 1 does not hear him say "all in" and thinks he has just called (busy place, lots of noise!) player 1 shows his full house and player 2 thinks he has folded as he has shown his cards and trys to claim the pot, player 1 insists he did not hear the all in. Discussion amongst players follwed and the outcome was that player 1 took the pot including all of player 2's chip as the others heard the allin, they all felt that player 1 would still have called the allin had he heard it.

I wasn't there but feel the fairest out come would have been to leave the 20k call in the pot and player 2 stays in the game. I am aware that if your hand is declared to opponents, it is void, but in this instance he was showing to win the pot.

Player 2 was very gracious in the end and accepted that player 1 would have called the allin given his hand.

    Your thoughts?

    thank you

If I play in more than one game, how do I get the screen to "split" so that I can easily see all the games at the same time ???

And do you think Michael Chopra was a good buy for the mighty TractorBoys ?

    Hi usm

If you have a look at the top right hand corner of the table, there is a blue button with "Mini View on it, click on that, it will make the table smaller so you can move to be able to have more than one table at a time on you're screen :)

    Hi Tikay,

I was just wondering if Sky Poker has any plans to expand the player points opportunities. For example, I have over 20,000 sky points and the only option open to me is to play a freeroll each day. I must add that these freeroll tournaments are rebuy ones - so basically its not even a fair freeroll. People in general who are using points are doing so a lot of the time because they do not have money. Call me a cynic but it seems as if Sky Poker is merely trying to get people to "add on" in these tournaments and spend more money.

I could be wrong but 20,000 points is a lot in cash for Sky Poker in rake earned, so I feel the least they could do is actually have some decent sattelites for the points in question or implement some kind of steps scheme as done on the other big poker sites.

Does that seem fair to you?

    Best wishes,
    50crates

    p.s.

I wish sky would have some proper deep stack tournaments with longer blind levels. Starting with 2000 chips and having 10 minute levels puts a lot of players off. Sure have the turbo option, but dont make everything a turbo.

What exactly do you want to be registered in?............and any game you wish to actually play in has to be done by yourself.

If you are referring to registering for the forum DTD (Dawn Till Dusk) league, you need to inform them by posting your wish in the General Poker Chat  (gpc) thread and then look them up under the 'Forum DTD Monday 27/06/2011' thread.

I hope this helps 'notaclue2'...........and good luck.
Ps: to actually play in any game you usually have to register in the lobby of that game yourself. ......Billy

On two occations now i have raised pre flop with AK and AQ in early position playing dubble your money, and was called by a player in the blinds. The flop would come down completely blank with low ranking cards. My opponent [different one every time] went all in.I folded both times thinking he might have pocket pair.Is this the right play from me or should i call hoping he has nothing or that i might hit the turn or river?

I am really just getting into my game though I have been on the site for 18 months or more. I seem to be able to hold my own and win often, but then seem to lose it again which suggests consistency is an issue. What is the best way to get some close analysis and coaching of my game and what is the best way to gather meaningful data to help analysis?

Heads up Tikay.......there's plaudits coming your way!!

      Hi Tikay,

I'm new to the site and indeed the game. I came across the Sky Poker channel a couple of weeks ago and understanding your logical explanations, i became interested in learning to play. I'd played before for play money online some years ago but had no idea of the importance of position etc and found it very unedifying. I lost interest. The easy manner and friendly but informative presentation from yourself, Trevor, Richard(well sometimes!) and the rest of the team rekindled my interest. I registered on the site on 30th june, researched the internet for recommended starter manuals and was lucky to source two in a second hand bookshop for a few quid to go with my 'Playing texas hold 'em online' paperback. So with these and the skypoker clinics, lessons and winners journey progs i started to get a feel for the game. In fact, you could say i was hooked. Maybe as a retired(i'm 52 but enough is enough!) mathematics teacher, i've always enjoyed probablity, statistics and logic which is a foundation stone of the game.

So i summoned the corage to play....thoroughly enjoying it. I bought into Survivor on tuesday for £4 and managed to get through to the final on saturday finishing 12th/19 but reaching the final provided so much experience and insight. ......but more was to come.....

I'd joined a casino in Liverpool in january but hadn't been. However, i found that they put on live multi-table tournaments during the week. So last night i went to play in my first ever live tournament. It was even televised online for one feature table with chipped cards so you could see the hands.

Armed with a list of  of bullet points headed by words such as discipline and ended with the word, patience, in capital letters combined with a strategy for shifting gears thro' the quartiles, i sat down. Three hands in the first hour was maybe a little too tight but i wanted to ease my way into it and feel confident in what was going on. My third hand played, TT, enabled me to maintain an average stack at the first break where i got the add-on. First target achieved......

Now get past half way.  This i'd managed just as i was moved to the feature table. Lights, cameras, action! I sat down putting my jacket over the back of the chair. Had anyone seen my little poker book stuffed in my inside pocket? Hope not. I'd managed to get a text off to Sue and she, with great aplomb surfed the internet, found the site and start watching me playing!! Blinds got bigger and i was a little hesitant so got down to 10 BB's and looked for my spot to shove. Got two callers to my all-in and tripled up. Above average stack now. I felt more confident and more zoned though not having the exact figure of the pot size did aggravate when i was working out pot odds as compared to direct odds. In fact, Tikay, one chap at an earlier table had said that i wasn't allowed to ask. Was he right? The dealer said the rule had been changed now and that i could but to only ask three times in the evening as it hinders speed of play. For a big decision its essential to know, isn't it?

On another occasion, a chap on my left raised all-in and was folded all the way around. I asked for the pot size in order to calculate the pot odds. He got irritated telling me how i should just put it in as it was only £10k. I felt pressurised but refused to budge or be rushed. What could i have done about that situation. I did complain to the pit boss at the interval who was very good and said he'd keep an eye on the situation. By the way i folded my hand but busted him after the break with QQ.......very satisfying!! Maybe they should stack in separate piles of coloured chips thus making it easier to count for players.

Sue was seeing my hands on the screen and later told me that she was screaming "NO! DON'T BET FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!" at her laptop when someone the pot had a better hand. No, i know it's not as straightforward as that. After all,

"The bet is sacrisanct in poker"

another of your sayings, i believe! It really must have been hell for her. Bless!!

Well i did suck out twice, oncewith an Ace on the river to give me a Run T-A using my Q as my opps two pair AK's and J's. As you say though, 'if you're going to do well in a tournament then you're going to have to race a couple of times'.
FOn another occasion, flopping JT7 rainbow with 89 suited in my hand after an opening raise in early position to disguise my hand was particularly satisfying as it was a technique expressly mentioned and suggested in the book i've been studying about using suited connectors. Anyway he bet all-in with a low stack and lost.

We got down to the bubble and i smiled to myself as i'd been watching you and Rich that very day talking about the bubble and playing aggressively so i took your advice and went for the win! I bust the player on the bubble and become the chip leader dominating my opponents stacks.

So, in the money. Target achieved. I played heads up aggressively always raising but refusing to call all-in bets until i felt happy. Your right it really is a different facet of the game. Maybe it's purest form too. Time was on my side .The blinds were big (6000/12000) and whittling my opponent, Paul's stack away.  The rest is history when he went all in with high cards to my JJ. ......
......FIRST PLACE and £255 in my pocket. Was i dreaming?

Pul and i had a friendly drink and a chat at the bar to talk over outr thoughts about the game. When i'd told him how new i was. to the game.....he didn't believe me and thought i was joshing. Finally he did accept my version and we had a good laugh about it.

It gave me a real buzz Tikay and i can't thank you and the team enough. I hope that Trevor isn't too downhearted seeing his beloved Arsenal breaking up(Walcott next to go now, isn't he?) and one day i look forward to meeting you all, maybe on the Sky Poker tour to thank you for adding another hobby string to my bow along with golf, photography painting and the spanish guitar(now that DOES need some serious work!!)

Thanks for taking the time out to read this. I hope you enjoyed Vegas. I enjoyed your blog. Sue and i are planning a trip touring California and Hawaii for october lasting three weeks. Vegas is on the itinery for a couple of days so i may just find myself at the Bellagio for a afternoon MTT just for the fun of it as its on my Bucket List now!!! You never know, I may be staying!!!!

                                                  cheers
