Sky Can Make You Thin!!

edited April 2013 in Poker Chat
I have been asked by a fellow fatty to begin a fresh thread in order to help us both with our weight loss aspirations

My fellow fatty is more of a live than online poker player and he is never seen without food in his gob so it will be interesting to read how he copes at the casino now whilst playing poker and dodging the fried breakfast.

Hopefully this thread will give us an insight of how my fellow fatty is even luckier than our very own Julian Thew at the poker felt!!

I have set my goals on the other thread but here is again, copy and pasted...

Right anyway, here goes...

I weighed myself this morning and from that have set myself the following target:-

Starting Weight:- 18st 4lbs

Target Weight:- 16st 4lbs

I haven't set a definate deadline to achieve this goal but would like to achieve it by at least the end of June.

As an incentive for myself, I am 90% sure that I will be able to go to Las Vegas again this Summer but need to tie a few things together before then (have a mates wedding in August and the Stag is in July so awaiting dates of that to see if it is possible to attend the stag and Vegas). However, if I am not down to at least 17st by the end of May then I will not be going to Las Vegas come what may!!

    Hi all
Inspired by Dylan (i never thought i would ever say that) i am going to have a go at downsizing i will get on theweighbridge in the morning and get some targets together for tomorrow. With the help of my wife we have worked out the calories of all the food i have had today.

Breakfast   Mcdonalds - Sausage Egg Cheese Mcmuffin W/ Ha sh Brown         600 calories

Lunch 2   Gingsters - Large Cornish Pasty                1160 calories ( my faveret food)

Dinner Takeaway - Tandori Mixed Grill, 12 oz             1000 calories

    A TOTEL OF   3506 calories

    SO OFF WE GO

To me this is ok but Mrs Boot said i was a greedy something. Off to look up on how to drop some pounds it can't be that hard can it.

    Thanks Paul

I wasn't going to weigh myself every day but a few people I know swear by it but I think I will stick to the once a week weigh in and see how that goes for now.

Don't know where my fellow fatty is at, I have text him and told him to post in this thread, sorry for the slow roll!

    Welcome Dai :)

Please learn how to post better though yeah ;)

There is an app out there Dai which calculates all your calories, is that the one she uses or from some specific site?

    Sigh dyl
    What have you started!
The site Mrs boot used is myfitnesspal. she has just down loaded a free app from the site on to my phone so i can keep a track.
My IT skilles were not up to the cut and paste bit though.

    Hi Dylan!

I started my weight loss journey 5 years ago. I lost 120lbs+ in 2 years, and I've been stuck yoyoing during the past 3 years. I've got another grueling 40lbs to go before i'm considered a "healthy" weight.

I've been using a site called "myfitnesspal". It's a free calorie counter, and overall weight loss helper. You can download an app and just scan or search your food, and it'll keep track of your intake. It even includes popular meals that you'd find on menus in restaurants.

You can also use the site to work out your BMR (basal metabolic rate) so it calculates the calories you need to maintain your weight, and you can adjust your calorie goal to the appropriate defecit.

I've got a few points points which I think are important.

    • Don't deny yourself a treat! As long as you keep track of your calories consumed. Protein is better carbs, so choose Nandos over McDonalds.

    • If you haven't got some, invest in some digital food scales. Weighing food is important. Especially cheese, which is evil. (Love cheese :( )

    • Sugar is also evil. Replace it much as much natural sugar as you can. Failing that, artificial sugar. After a while, you'll forget how nice real sugar is.

    • Never shop hungry.

    • Purchase "The Hairy Dieters". It has a really good section on fakeaways.

    • Whether you're standing in a queue, playing some poker, or doing mundane sedentry stuff - keep your limbs active such as tapping your feet, marching etc. Every calorie burned counts.

    • Weigh yourself in the morning, naked. After you've had a wee.

    Good luck!

    Hi Emma

Wow, that is a fantastic post and bloody well done on your achievement to date, now that is some inspiration!!

Thanks for the tips, I have cut out the sugar in my coffee as of this afternoon so that is a tick :)

This myfitnesspal app doesn't work on my iphone4 unfortunatley, it says that I need the iphone5 so I downloaded an app called mynetdiary, seems ok but we shall see.

I don't plan to starve myself or restrict myself to the max as it is a long journey and I will need some 'cheat' days to keep me going along the way i think but we shall see how it goes.

Played some poker tonight, just splashed about really but I did start to tap my feet as you suggested :)

Did you used to weigh yourself every day or just once weekly?

I am looking into that Hairy Dieters book right now! Thanks again for that fantastic post and any further tips then please pass them on :)

Burn more calories than you intake = weight lose
Intake more calories than you burn = weight gain

simpels! eat less and healthier + exercise

DO NOT DO EXERCISE THEN EAT A CAKE !! defeats the object - no treats -

Sumo wrestlers do not eat breakfast, why ? Because it slows down their metabolism.

Must eat breakfast, and not a fry up )

Speaking from a standpoint of someone who loves food, I feel your pain )

Eat healthier and exercise more. The key is to change your lifestyle permanently. Always have breakfast and if you need to snack between meals have fruit/veg. If you're hungry between meals, try drinking water instead of a snack. Sometimes we mistake dehydration for hunger, top up with water and the desire for food wanes.

Lisa, my mate has myfitnesspal on his iphone4 but alas I can't get it through the Apple store as it is now only compatible for iphone5 but the app im using is doing the business though so all good!

When I lost 2-3 stone a few years ago what helped most was a calorie counter (used weight watchers software I 'found' on the net) and weighing myself every morning. The software pointed out easy wins (replace soft drinks / beer with water, realise how bad snacks are etc) and the daily weigh-in showed the correlation between taking in less calories and losing weight, even if it's only marginal. After a while both the counting and weighing became routine and I also changed my behaviour permanently, so when I stopped eventually I didn't put the weight back on.

Right at todays weigh in 93.1 kg

    Target over 6 months 80 kg(about a lb a week)

I have downloaded Myfitness pal onto my windows phone.

    Looks good.
Tells me to reach my target, I will need to consume 1600 calories daily!

I have planned in 2 sessions of 20  minutes exercise per week.
