In Response to Re: Welcome to Area 51 : Hi 1080chest. Great question. As others have mentioned, the act of 'burning' cards is only necessary for live poker. I've done some research and we don't burn cards in our games, and this doesn't affect the randomness of the next card dealt in any way. Hope this helps :-)

6 seater table 2 hole cards [12]  then betting, then the burnt card is 13th flop 14/15/16 then betting rnd then  burnt 17 so turn would be 18th betting rnd then burnt 19th betting rnd river is 20th final betting rnd, so why is peter  not mentioning the burnt cards                                    gl to all at the tables

The software doesn't need to do 'burn cards', it's a requirement of live play only.

There are no burn cards in online poker.
The general reason given for the use of burn cards in live poker is so that players cannot gain an advantage by knowing what the next card to be dealt will be (if the deck is marked). This does not apply to online poker and hence no burn cards are required.

We've been somewhat surprised by the popularity of discussions focused on randomness or fairness of our poker application. As stated elsehwere our software is fully independently tested (by industry-leading experts) and we're regulated by the AGCC - however maybe there's little point to going over this again. So - we thought we'd provide a dedicated area for our conspiracy theorists to get things off their chest, maybe feel better and still continue to play on our site! I'll leave you with a wee thought... Q. What does the random number generator in our poker software actually do? A. It shuffles (very effectively) 52 cards once per hand - and once only That's all really. For example - if there are 6 people seated at the table - the software shuffles the cards - then deals 2 cards per player and the three flop cards. Which players then fold, call or bet is irrelevent - the turn card is the same card that was next in the deck from the original shuffle. In this example it would be the 16th card (given the numbers seated at the table before the hand was dealt). The same applies to the river card - it is the card that is next in the deck from the original shuffle. In this example the river card would be the 17th card in the deck from the original shuffle. So the question is - with only one shuffle per hand  and no randomisation between the flop, turn and river cards being dealt - plus no prior knowledge (how could we?) of which players will fold - bluff, slow play etc - how do we still manage to produce all these bad beats? I spent 3 months in email communication with the AGCC trying to get them to explain how the Sky RNG worked and at no time did they provide the information you have, even though I asked them precisely this question. I askeed them if the 52 cards are randomy generated before the deal or if each card is randomly generated from the remaining deck in real time and they refused to answer. They also refused to provide any information on who audits your software (apparently it has to be audited every month) or to provide any audit results. I am very happy with your explanation and I absolutely don't believe the software is rigged but, really, the AGCC should be rather more helpful and forthcoming with information in order to help your reputation and beat off the conspiracy theorists. I'm sure you know that one of the other major poker sites published their RNG algorithm to "prove" it was fair and then had to change it because some mathemiticians found that it was so simple they could predict what the rest of the deal would be after seeing the first few cards and running them through a computer, and they could do it in a few seconds!

That's not strictly true. They were able to improve their odds but not precisely predict the "rest of the deal". Using only 2 hole cards (and then up to four community cards) then this would be a fractional edge at best. In fact since they would need to be sitting in the same spot on the table (relative to the dealer) it makes the instances where they could "predict" a flop very rare indeed even given the highly flawed RNG that was being used on that site.
I PM'ed you with more detail on this topic earlier.

Sorry mate ...but its all bullcrap...you know it ...i know it....ELECTRONIC RNG / CARD SHUFFLERS is impossible.....
NOW.......I dont care what tests is done on what ever poker softwhare...they are all FLAWED and corrupt....

Lets take a live tournament... say ...800 seats ....That would take about a week to complete! ....Now, online poker players dont have a week to sit at there pc's !!......So ...we play with a softwhare designed to elliminate players asap..... That way a large...ish tourny can be done and dusted in ...say 4-6 hours! ..Great now we can do that every hour...on the hour...ect ...what a way to generate cash flow...Also ...lets say 10% get paid...in this case 80 seats...... So 720 losers.....So ....not only do you have odds of being elimimated of  1-90 but  only 1-10 chance of winning ! So before we even start....your odds of losing far far far outweigh the odds of winning... So ok....lets argue the skill factor....we cant ...guess why....no mater what you may be holding....all to many times does the softwhare spot an oppotunity to fizz you out....hence ...stack position...how many times do i see the short stack push all in ...because he has to...and has KK....only for the chip leader or high chip stack turns over A-6 off suit....then of course an ace hits the flop .....bye bye muppet ..fancy having the cheek to go allin with KK ....Ie seen it a 1000 times on the sky tvchannel! Online poker softwhare is a complex/sofisticated and very clever !!

    LETS DANGLE THE CARROTT....
Your are short stacked with another player....you get poket 8s ...the other short stacked player gets 9-10 suited  ...the chips leader or higher stacked player flips over QQ  ...bingo you are both out because a Q suddenly appears on the turn or river.....

NOW THEN...TRY TO GIVE ME THE ANSWER TO THIS VITALLY IMPORTANT QUESTION....

WHAT IS THE MOST FUNDERMENTLE AND HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LIVE DEALER AND AN ELECTRONIC DEALER?...

If you can answer this question....and im impressed.....i will deposit.....but you wont...If you do...and you are proved wrong ...you deposit for me .....

i been on to the regulator,

      he sent on some laxatives,

where is the 3 muck cards in real poker there is a muck card b4 all flop, turn and river with no muck cards it changes the fate again, i have never had so many bad beats in line as i have on here i have 95% of the time put my money in way ahead and been turned and rivered about 90% of case's when i should be coming out ahead 90% of the time it seems to favour players who are more gamblers then poker players look at the hands i have played and see the bad beats yourself. and alos why is it when i go against a pocket pair they hit trips every time about 90% of the time they are drawing to 2 cards out of 36 cards but they hit 1 most times and when the short stack pushes in a tornament the larger stack will hit runner runner to beat the small stack to keep your tornaments moving forward

  • edited September 2010

    Good evening all.

I have been playing poker for some while now. Played conventional, loose tight etc. I joined sky poker site earlier in the week as i was fed up with the stupid aggrssive play with garvage which one finds at Full Tilt and Jokerstars.

I must say i had a gr8 time on Wednesday and Thursday and got ino the money and points a couple of times. The standard of play was excellent, yes! some people were being creative and no doubt some good bluffs took place however i can honestly say that on the occasions i got to see their hands in the showdown their betting strategy made sense.

Ok , So far, so good, so now i am looking forward to playing on Friday night and can honestly say that I cam across the bigest bunch of clowns who have no idea how to play poker. Bad beats usually occur when idiots play stupidly and catch lucky so i guess I am going to put it down to egos alcohol and week end idiots who just can't fold.

Let me share with you one example.. I am in a £5 Bountyhunter with about 12k chips... Under the gun bets 100 (min Bet) and the next guy shoves for 2500, fair enopugh! so i am now looking at my hand at a strong pair QQ so I do what any normal person would do and go all in to isolate. Low and behold, the guy who limped calls off 6000 chips and I am thinking to myself, Jeez, did i realy walk into AA and what has he got KQ! Now this has to be the most idiotic stupid decision in the world especially as he is in for 100 and about to lose 6000 and his competition. So the guy gets lucky and hits his King.

Durng ths game i then prceeded to watch half a dozen people shove to a shove and a re shove with KQ as if KQ is the new AA. 20 minutes later i watched a guy call  a 3 bet off last in line for 9000 (his whole stack) with K4

It is this stupid play, especially when it gets paid off which makes the good players want to run a mile. In my opinion there are genuine bad beat stories and then there is the idiotic play for no rational reason which gets paid off. So my thoughts are as follows:-

Seems to me the alcohol fuelled idiots with ego's the size of a galaxy and emotionally can't cope with the "all in" turn up on Friday nights. They must think its personal so they see red and hit the call button with 7 4 clubs and hit the straight flush leaving the real players with the KK AK AA out in the cold. I don't think i will be playing on this site much at the week ends.

To be honest i dont mind being beated by 7 2 if the play was executed well and not just some gormless numpty's all in shove pre flop for 10,000 chips and no logic or rational. So if anyone reads this please let me know if you also believe that a lower  standard of numpty plays at the week end or is it my imagination..

    Thank you and have fun
