i honestly dont know how you MTT heads cope with the variance. if i get a hand cracked and lose a buy in i can just play another 10 sng's in an hour and usually forget about most beats. but to have a 3hour grind get shot down and only be able to play 3-4 MTT's max in a night i can see why it would tilt any rationality right out of you. Posted by TeddyBloat
Its tough sometimes, but like chicknmelt said FT'ing a big field and/or taking it down is a great feeling.
I love poker, sometimes the beats are hard to take, especially the 1/2 outers when you have been sat 3 hours like you say, but that's parts of the game. I guess the way I see it (when im in a good mood lol) is its entertainment. If I play poker for 3 hours and play well and lose its annoying, but if ive enjoyed it I don't feel as bad.
I agree. Nothing beats coming through a large field and winning. I could finish 2nd for £1000 and fin first for £900 and I would still get more of a buzz from winning!
On the flip side it does suck big time when you get unlucky after playing for a few hours and get busted or crippled.
£300BH so after having my KK cracked by QJ even when I've hit my set, im crippled to 180 chips, I get a triple uo and pick a pot up to get to 600 chips then this happens
So, I've had a bit of luck in the £150 BH. very first hand I had (late reg) I get JJ, raise, get a call from a station (notes) flop come KJ9 2 hearts, so very draw heavy board, I bet out, villain calls, turn is a brick, I check, villain bets, I shove he calls with A9 lol. Bounty and a near double up. Took another head but then got a bit short. Thought I was actually gonna win a race (silly me)

Currently in the £300 with no heads EDIT. Just had KK cracked by 66 for a big pot and a head. the run continues
Well haven't posted in a while because I cant bring myself to tell you about all the bad beats. Basically on a £200 downswing, which considering I play lowstakes is pretty brutal.
The annoying thing is I'm not just getting it in good, I'm getting it in 95% good, and losing EVERY SINGLE TIME. The beats are just never ending.
Yesterday I lost 2 £30 buy ins at cash. QQ vs AJ on a 10 high board with only the river to come Ace on the river. KK vs QQ villain hits 4flush. Every tourney I enter my exit hands are unbelievable.
Yesterday I had 22 in the sb with UTG limp. I limped bb checked. flop Q55 I check, bb leads utg calls (obv im behind to one of em) I float, 2 on the turn. I lead out bb raises utg folds, I re raise bb shoves I call. Villain shows the expected 5 for trips to my FH. 5 on the river. Standard.
A9 suited in the bb, folded round to sb who limps, I 3x raise he calls. Axx flop, he checks I check as I feel I'm way ahead, turn brings in my nut flush draw to go with top pair, villain leads out (maybe 2 pair poss) I raise he shoves I call. Villain shows A6, so I have him dominated and one of his outs completes my flush, but noooooo he hits 1 of the 2 outs he has.
These are just some of the horrendous beats. On top of this I never win races, or even 70/30's. When my QQ gets called by ace jack its either the ace hitting of some spurious 4flush or straight that comes in. Everytime some has suited card they hit the flush against me. When I get it in with the same cards AK vs AK I still manage to lose.
I don't play high volume online, so when you get 10/15 really bad beats in the space of 2/3 days its really hard to deal with. Especially when your are 95% to win the hand. I can cope with losing flips but c'mon give me a break.
I think my poker will be taking a back seat for a while, off to the gym to get ripped for the summer and going to try play more live. I will play the DTD's as they are great fun but at the minute playing on here is no fun at all. (except when mrsduck rails me!!) She is witness to some of these beats.
Sounds like you're running bad at the moment.....but I can't understand your out of position float with 22 on a Q55 board. With 2 villains, and nowhere for your hand to go (so unlikely to improve), I'd just bin it. This isn't a time/situation to float IMO.
It doesn't get any better. AA cracked by 89 off. 3x utg raise, called by villiain on my left. I'm sat there when the turn is a 10 after ive bet the 67x flop I check and villain shoves. So not only do I think surely he cant have 89, then I think would he shove the stone cold nuts..... He would. 1K left shoves pre with AQ get called by QJsuited, Jack on the flop. Standard. Exit hand is my AJ vs 10 10. Once again I don't win a race.
I'm playing 1 or 2 more tourneys today and then that's it, i'll be here for the DTD's and maybe the odd main event. I'll keep a look out for sky live events. But I simply don't believe how often terrible plays get rewarded.

Variance sucks mate, we've all been there. The downward swings always feel much worse than the upwards trajectories. Take a little time off and enjoy your other interests, you'll soon feel like getting stuck back into it again and winning the moniez back!!
Thanks guys, but I'm off (sort of) wont be playing nearly as much on sky.
Will be playing more live and doing other things. I am stuck because I don't enjoy playing high volume (to even out the variance) so I wont be doing that. Sky have no speed poker (which is quite profitable for me). So from now on it will be the DTD's on Mondays and a couple of games here and there. I am also in receipt of loads of free money and offers from others sites that I haven't been playing as I have been on sky. So every cloud has a silver lining.
Also I am not just taking the easy road and saying its just a bad downswing, I'm sure there are ways to improve my game and spots where my play has been at fault. So I will be reading rather than playing too.
Since I started my diary I am around £180 to the good (it was near £400 at one point) so i'll take that. Just to add insult to injury I got home from the gym, registered for the DTD's and played the £500 bounty hunter. I will post 2 hands and see what you think.
So my money is withdrawn and the DTD's are regged. See some of you tonight. If I get a good result tonight I may be in contention for a monthly prize
Before I get flamed, he had FISH at the end of his name so I have just deleted the first part lol.
So this is the problem playing stations. Why on earth did he call the post flop raise?? I put him on an open ended straight after he did, so when the 5 came on the turn I didn't think it improved his hand much as I thought he had one. I wa hoping to commit him with the 900 bet I know I should have just put him all in, and the river call was pure frustration. But for 395 into a 4k pot plus a £10 bounty can you ever find a fold there?

I have 10 outs to win the hand if I put him on a set (which I did but called anyway.... DONK) but was hoping he had a massive draw or possibly 77.
