He was an aspiring footballer until a knee injury did for that
Ben was a young pro for several years and at various times it went well. At various times it didn't.
Ben was a party animal!
Last November, in what was an emotional win because it followed soon after the death of his Dad, Ben won the PokerStars UKIPT Six Max main event here at DTD for a lot of money
If you ever want a good night out, buy him a drink at the bar and see where the night leads.....
Kevin Allen from London is a poker player from a gambling background. Online monikers include "Gambling Pays"
A very knowledgeable football bettor and, this not always being the case for some poker players around the scene, universally respected by his peers for his ability and manner. Genuine as they come, which counts in the tight knit world of young poker pros travelling around playing big tournaments
Kevin won the DTD Monte Carlo here about 18 months ago for a six figure sum. Married with kids, the win certainly set him up
I hope those sort of mini-profiles are interesting of some of the regular "names" that play the bigger UK events maybe have not had much exposure to? more? don't bother? The PLO is now on its first break and has 53 runners The Hgh Rller is down to 10 with the exits of Middy, Mark Wilson, Vinson and Raja The Main is playing behind me with 59 entries and climbing Posted by SPT
Definitely more. Interesting to know for who to look out for next year when i'm there
Seriously. Great thread, info is very interesting, if people don't like it they can just skip past. Keep it up Mr SPT.
This is Joan. Joan is from Dublin and she travels round the world as a freelance poker dealer. All the exotic places. The Bahamas, Australia, Barcelona, Vienna, Nottingham She challenged me to take a nice photograph of her, something which I apparently have never achieved Until now Posted by SPT
Jeff Kimber has had a long and successful relationship with G casinos He has final tabled no less than 8 (might be 7!) GUKPT final tables He has final tabled a WSOP Omaha event one of UK Poker's survivors (a compliment, a lot of people fall by the wayside, Jeff is successful year in year out) What he doesn't know about basketball you don't need to know. Before becoming a pokerist, was a sports journalist Unluckily, because into each life a little rain must fall, he is a Newcastle United fan Posted by SPT
8 UKIPT final tables, but still cant afford a clean tee. Get the man a sky poker shirt
She's just a devil woman, with evil on her mind. So sang Sir Cliff Richard
Just a thought that sprung to me when i saw the knuckleduster on this unknown Omaha player, who has had quite a renaissance in his results this year including an EPT High Roller final table
this chap is Chinese Frankie, and he is sitting next to tikay Frankie is a DTD regular of much standing, his fish and chip shop in Mansfield being voted the best in that town last year by listeners to a radio programme I am not sure why that is relevant to anything, except that Frankie, loud, brash and loveable, knows his way round an Omaha table that is for sure..online omaha regular any night he is not playing live Posted by SPT
In other news....
... sales of ear defenders are on the rise in Nottingham.
Joe Grech, a poker tournament veteran originally from Malta and for a long time based in London
There was a spell in 2006-2007 when i first started around the poker scene that Joe was everywhere.
He travelled the circuit a lot, and these were the days before the big UK Tours where the various casinos in various towns ran their own festivals with names like "Midlands Meltdown" and "Christmas Cracker" and "Northern lights"
from mid 2006 in the following year Joe won no less than seven of the regional festival events put on by the various casinos and he dominated the scene
I spoke to him a couple of years later. The poker scene had changed somewhat because the Tours had taken hold of the UK circuit and progressively a lot of the younger players were drawn into the live scene having previously just played online
The games became tougher, and all the travelling had for a while taken a toll on Joe
It became fashionable to deride the style of the old "live pros" in this new environment
However Joe is still around. travelling less but still a great fan of a good Omaha event, of which you don't get many in the UK
He is just about a top 50 all time prize money winner of all English poker tournament players, live
In Response to Re: Sky Poker UKPC Six Max: The £500,000 GTD Main Event : Is it Stttttutter? Sorry, meant Rutter As in Stuart's bro. Or it could Richard Orford. Posted by MAXALLY
Yes Tom Rutter
Tom is a very talented poker player but was off the scene for a long time studying to become a Doctor
He qualified, became a GP, and for a while returned to playing poker recreationally
He then stopped, and I didn't see him around at all
A couple of weeks ago I found out that Tom had been working in the A and E of a big hospital in Australia for a year, a working holiday from which he is now back
Ben Dobson is from Dorset and plays successfully online as f3nix35
Ben's breakthrough live result was when he won a leg of the France Poker Series in Amnéville for €70,000
Those of you with good memories may recall that Ben, who travels up to DTD very regularly for the bigger events, won the UKPC Six Max event in February here for £40,000
This is Helena, one of the massage girls I am not aware if she plays poker. To be frank it wasn't top of my list of priorities to ask when was taking the picture Posted by SPT
Free massage for priority club members right? How many runners do you think there will be on day 1c roughly? Looking forward to it.

One of the biggest winners ever at DTD, Nottingham local Wadey won one of the first DTD Monte Carlos
A fearsome gambler and a superb reader of other poker players and their hands. Almost unbluffable
His big live success was winning a Genting Poker series event last year
I am going to guess Newcastle because i have so many tabs open i daren't open another
big win anyway

This gentleman is the brother of a Sky Pker presenter or analyst.
Name the family....
He played one of the really big DTD Monthlies
the buy in was £500. He satellited in
the guarantee was £500,000
He won it outright for £110,000
he is still a mild mannered estate agent with a poker hobby.......

A Bolton Wanderers fan, in fact. Unlucky Lee
Lee is a mature student. So mature, that he's been a student for years
History is his thing, specifically Irish Cntemporary history
He went to Bristol University for a year
"I found it too tough and found poker, gradually poker took over and i took time out of being a student"
Not unsuccessfully either, a regular on the UK circuit with GUKPT and GPS final tables and WSOP cashes too
"I am going to go back and finish off at the Open University" he tells me. In history, not poker
Paul branched out into poker training, across various brands and ventures and was also involved in the marketing of the DTD club when it first opened
Before that , having moved to Marbella in 2000 he opened the costa's first poker club 5th Street Marbella and got his nickname “The Marbella Kid”.
In one of the most unusual parts of a UKplayer's poker CV He won the Moroccan championship 5 times.
He appeared on Late Night Poker, The Poker Million, The World Open TV formats
