aussie go to bed you are not providing any comment relevant to the thread. mere novices, provide some information that supports your theories or some that disproves mine on the laws of probability,,,PLEASE!!!!

I'm not exactly sure what your theories are.
If you'd like to expostulate I'd be glad to try and reason with you.

after stopping playing on sky for 6 months, believing through statistic compiliation that far too many amazing hands and beats occur, i have returned(not without some success) to find the same occuring! my question is this: however random why should the average punter on sky believe that the computer generators are not tweaked to make this happen? for my part watching and playing live i know it doesn't happen with the same frequency??? SO, comments welcome! Stoneface 1.

Please post your statistics on here so we can all have a look.

If this sort of thing is going on we have a right to know. If it's true I'm going to write to The Exmouth Journal as a matter of urgency and I'll be raising the matter at the next PTA meeting.

Don't go over the top mate.
If we think it's "got legs" we can start with "The Guardian".
If it gets really serious we'll take up your extreme measures.

Anyway, stoneface1, as a starting point, quote me one statistical certainty.
No cheating by quoting England being humbled at this year's Football World Cup.

As a clue, I can quote you several statistical certanties of things that have yet to happen.

Surely this whole thread is going over the top. It's just yet another 'poker player' who thinks he/she is alot better than they actually are and therefore it can't be their fault that they are losing, so it must be the site.  Of course there is always the small chance that you are infact a good player and just experiencing a bad run of variance, however if you were I imagine that you would be able to understand that.

mere novices,, that is absolute hogwash and no mathematician would comment as you have just done. not only has it been tried and tested countless times it is how casinos make money!! probability implications are certain over time and fixed odds generate certainty due to such, so save your lectures and demonstrate proof of your theory of chance,,,please!!! :)

If it has been as you said tried and tested so many times and thats how Casino's make money, then why doesnt some Mathematician just jump onto the routlette wheel and use this to their advantage by watching where the "graph" is going.

Because it doesnt work like that. Example of Blackjack, Card Counting does happen, now this doesnt garentee you will win but it increases the odds of winning.

Now as MereNovice says, a coin flip is 50% of the time heads, 50% of the time tails. Now flip a coin 4 times. Does it come heads twice and tails twice i rthink not.

    Jeepers.
Why are you sober at this time of night?
Also, if you are, why are you spoiling our fun?

P.S. Congratulations on a very rational post - I would never have suspected that you were capable of it. ;-)))

don 90, 37 numbers on a roulette wheel, 35 to 1 odds,, do the math ;)

That's not true either as far as I understand the relevant theories.

The probability of me reaching the speed of light is, however, extremely small so there is no need to worry.

Er, the maths on a 37 number roulette wheel would mean that each individual number has odds of 36 to 1.

    Next, please.

    Yes, because its completeley random.

32 teams in a world cup, does that mean that New Zealand would win it if they qualified 32 times?

Ive hit a royal flish twice does that mean ive played 7million hands of poker?

I think not, your arguement is flawed

Good or Bad random numbers/cards are generated, This is a fact! If you notice random cards not being deal in your favour this is called variance. You may not notice this so much in live games because not as many hands are being dealt. in a live poker room hundreds of hand are being dealt, however, on line hundreds of thousands of hands are being dealt so the variance looks so much more severe. But at the end of the day it is still variance.

If you feel that variance is not in your favour, then, is there any particular reason why you think it should be in someone elses favour? Sky don't earn any extra money whether you win or joe blogs wins. The only reason it is so prominent in online poker is because of the amount of hands that are being dealt and for this reason variance looks so much more severe. But at the end of the day it is still variance.

Ok. So in answer to your question:
"however random why should the average punter on sky believe that the computer generators are not tweaked to make this happen?"

Answer: Because it makes not the slightest bit of difference to sky who wins. Everyone payed the same amount of money and rake to enter the tourny and the final prize fund is the same.

Now admittedly if Tikay or Richard Orford or LML managed to get on the final table more often than most, I would say it was fixed, but unfortunately even they do not have a monopoly on variance in online poker thank god, and they need all the help they can get lol.

Hey lay off New Zealand! I got landed with them in the world cup freeroll, but to be fair, they provided me with far better entertainment than watchin England play! Now all i've gotta do is take down Saturdays Open from my free entry!

I used New Zealand as an example. I actually got them in my sweepstake at the local.

Having watched your "exuberant" style you're probably rather better than 32/1. Good luck.

P.S. If I had got 32/1 on NZ winning I might have laid them quite heavily.

mere novices,, cant believe you tried to pull me on the 35/1????? those are the casino odds not the real odds, if it were 36/1 they couldnt be sure of winning. fixed odds again ;)
  • edited July 2010
pokertrev, i accept your comments and well put. generating play and hands is not the same as cheating or even anything remotely fraudulent but it would be in the interests of any poker site if slight anamolies occurred. every1 is still playing the same deck but thats not to say that computer generated poker is 100% conforming to a cold deck. 0.1% would make a significant difference and it could occur purely due to software anamolies. However, i never said it was so but my analytical mind is suspicious at times. enough said i think, i still love poker  :)))))

You appear to be remarkably ignorant of the facts, again.

If they offer 35/1 odds on a 36/1 event then they expect to make money and, over a huge sample, they tend to.
However, there are no guarantees. They are not sure to make a profit.

Knowing that the odds are "against" them doesn't appear to stop people playing roulette and I am fairly confident in saying that there is no system that is guaranteed to beat casino odds at roulette.

my last comment and somewhat ironic to the guy who has had 2 royal flushes but not played 7,000,000 hands, whilst watching skypoker on t.v last year i watched a royal flush come up, apparently the 1st ever i think? fairly certain the very next hand(or very soon after) was,,,,,,yep, a 2nd royal flush, haha. somebody famous once said,"however improbable evrything is possible!" g.nite  :))))))

However, there are definitely systems that can beat "live dealt" blackjack games.
I use the phrase "can beat" not in the sense of a guarantee but with the meaning that an educated player can have an expectation of making a profit.
Sadly, casinos are allowed to ban such players (or else I would expect to be a very rich man).

mere novices, check your facts again please. pick a number on a roulette table and your chance of it coming up is 36/1. FACT! if it does you get paid 35/1,, factor that by millions of spins and the house cannot lose!!!! jeez,,,thought you was a mathematician? somehow i think not! goodnight and thnx for your belicose and belligerence ;)

That post is so ignorant on so many levels.
However, your last comment is fairly close to the truth, if you only knew it.

mere novices card counting is guaranteed providing you can do it!! thats why they ban them. works on a +1 -1 system of high cards to low cards so that you know what cards are left in the deck. unfair advantage to the player against the dealer!

In Response to computer generated poker : I love the ideathat you can tweak an RNG, tweak something that just produces a random number, just how exactly can it be tweaked! I was dealing a tourney last night at Alea Casino Leeds, I had 4 4 and the chap sat next to me had 7 7, the flop was 4 4 7. I shuffled the cards, I dealt the cards, I won with quads, do you think the people at the table thought I may have "tweaked" the deal? LOL I love the way you mention your statistical analysis yet fail to give us any hard evidence from your work! May I suggest your analysis is not exactly comprehensive? Was it over 2 or 3 million hands?
    Posted by SolarCarro
roulette machines in bookies and casino's are random number generated and are'tweaked' to 90something%, thats how but not what i was saying, actually!

I don't play much roulette but I seem to know more about it than you.
There are two different types of roulette wheel; the "American" wheel also features a "00" hole.
The odds favour the house, as I have already clearly stated.
