    Hi guys,

Great show as always, my question for Julian is when raising on the dealer button, how many times the big blind is your usual/standard raise in the:
    1) Early stages of a tourney
    2) Middle stages
    3) Final table
    Regards
    Dan

    Julian

I find that I am comfortable with the hand range that I start with in an MTT and and the fact that I open it up a bit as we progress.

This is fine with an unopened pot,  how to you reassess your hand strength when you have pre flop action before it comes to you.  e.g.  Ace Ten suited looks great to raise with into an unopened pot from late position, how much is it worth after a raise and a call before it comes around to you.

Hope I've made myself clear with that one

Do like the idea of a Sky Poker Golf Day...

Happy to arrange it if we have enough interest...

Have started a thread on it so please go post on there if you are interested.

    Hi Team,
As the past Captain of a golf club, I'm all for dress code, I wouldn't dream of walking in the clubhouse in jeans and trainers. This could be the down fall of the golf day, all those hoodies and trainers with no laces !

I'm not an old fuddy duddy though, I was the youngest captain of my club in 1999 at the age of 29 ! 2 young kids now so golf has taken a big back seat ! sure i could dust off the clubs if there were an event, used to play off 5

Right- here's your essential guide to your TV 'tainment on 865 this weekend.

Two big live shows for ya, and let’s begin by looking at Sunday night’s show.

Yes, from 9pm we have a triumvirate of top poker talent. Well, a duo. And Tikay.

    Here’s the full cast...

    And...

Yes, James and Tikay will be joined by live show debutante, poker journalist Nick Pryce. He’s a regular player on Sky Poker under the alias Pryce6 and a familiar face from the Sky Poker Tour. Nick works for an online sports betting magazine as their poker correspondent. As for his playing style, he’s described as ‘aggro’. If this floats your boat, and you want to know how an aggro player’s mind works, be sure to tune in as Nick gives his informed take on our hands.

Nick’s a tournament specialist, so you may want to ask him a few questions about to how he handles those or, since he seems to be right across the worldwide poker scene, you might want to ask him about his views on the big stories, famous players, trends, predictions or past controversies. Remember, he has the inside track!

You can post your questions on this very thread.

    Meantime- here’s Nick’s Twitter page

And here’s his latest poker article, which is a fascinating one about possibly the biggest poker hand in history as won recently by a young chap called Tom Dwan. $11 million (£7million) apparently. Although it seems there’s some debate as to whether it actually happened. Perhaps someone could ask Nick about this too?

They’ll be updates throughout the evening from the Viva Las Vegas semi-final as players go through to that dream final and a chance to bag a seat on the plane this summer. And they’ll be a smidgeon of cash action.

But the main focus of the show will be the biggest game of the week-The Sunday Night Primo.

So, for the world’s ultimate home game, pull up an armchair this Sunday with the chaps, log on, register for the Primo and play the game whilst watching the experts commentate on it LIVE!

So that’s Sunday night 9pm-1am but what about Saturday night? i.e. TONIGHT?

Keep reading, dear reader, keep reading...

  • edited March 2011

Welcome to your Saturday night in. Armed with your laptop, your beverage of choice and your favourite channel 865.

Yes, we’re live at 9pm for FOUR HOURS of poker, poker, poker.

Your hosts? An incredibly handsome, eligible bachelor who's always been popular with the ladies...

    and Ed Giddins...

Together we'll be bringing you Mastercash. Four hours of testosterone-fuelled poker from the cash tables, with 3 hours of Cash 300 from 10pm.

The Cash 300 tables are where the buy-in's a minimum AND maximum of £300, the blinds are £1.50/£3 and all the big boys come out to play.

In fact in recent weeks they’ve become increasingly popular. Last week we had FIVE full tables on the go and, as word spreads, the numbers keep getting bigger and bigger.

Even if it’s way out of your bankroll, tune in and enjoy the action from the comfort of your armchair without the discomfort of losing pots worth thousands!

Also in the mix this Saturday- the Top 5 biggest hands of the week from the TV cash tables. We of course, count all that down from midnight- it's one of the highlights of the week on 865.

And we’ll have 3 more rounds of Orford’s Disastermind- our light-hearted general knowledge quiz where somebody will win entry into Friday night's Take On Tikay tourney.

Our current champion is TheDon90 and back to a take a tilt at his title will be DannyMcs. We’ll need another challenger of course, so if you’re up to the task email skyopen@bskyb.com between now and the start of the show along with your contact number for tomorrow night and we’ll get you on the air!

Unfortunately, no guest tonight, as our original booking Mr James Williams aka LJamesL has had to pull out due to ill health. So it’s just Ed and I....and you!

So, look out for our infamous bet. Every time Ed and I work together we have a genuine £5 bet on air on whatever takes our fancy. Traditionally Ed has thrashed me at this over the last 3 or 4 years, but in fact, in recent weeks I’ve been milking Ed like a big old sow.

If anyone has any good suggestions for a good bet between the two of us, we’re all ears. Please post below.

Also, I have a TSP Classic entry to give away to our favourite post or email.

Tonight’s topic: In your opinion who or what is over-rated?

Possible examples: Phil Ivey, I-Pads/I-Phones, Colin Firth, Al Pacino, Madonna, Wayne Rooney, holidays, etc

What’s the one thing that everyone else in the world seems to rate but you think...meh!

TSP Classic entry for the best one!

Plenty to get your teeth into tonight then- Ed and I will see you at 9pm!

OK- the countdown to tonight's live show at 9 starts here.

Will you be the star of it? Get on the Mastercash and Cash 300 tables and you'll have a four hour national TV show with everyone on it bigging you up!

    Can't say fairer than that.

Don't forget tonight's topic as well-

In your opinion who or what is over-rated (and why?)Possible examples: Phil Ivey, I-Pads/I-Phones, Colin Firth, Al Pacino, Madonna, Wayne Rooney, holidays, etcWhat’s the one thing that everyone else in the world seems to rate but you think...meh!TSP Classic entry for the best one!

Richard, Johnny Vegas is over-rated as a comedian, some people try to say he is an alternative comedian, that would be alternative to being funny.

    WEST BROM.

I do think you should start a new thread for each show TBH. The amount of new ones created this week shows there can not be a ration put on starting new threads? Then again, Sky poker seem to be making the rules up as they go along.....
  • edited March 2011
Continuing on a footy note, how about the England football team - look at the World Cup, you were going to be winning it were you not? :P  I know that Scotland is far far worse in fairness, but the difference is, we know it!

Looking forward to another good show lads!

It's an experiment Alan. I'm just keeping it tidy for this month and having everything to do with the live shows on one thread.

We'll see how it goes and then maybe revert back, if it doesn't work. I'm not seeing any particular downsides to it at the mo.

As for West Brom- nice idea. Wrong timing. Have you caught today's results yet? We're only 4 points off the top half of the Premiership! :)

Fair point mate- although having followed England for 30 years I've noticed that no-one automatically thinks we're going to win anymore as we head into major tournaments. It's a mood that's changed imperceptibly in the last couple of tournaments and it's come from bitter experience.

Fans used to say getting to the semis was a minimum requirement and that we had every chance of winning it, but now I think everyone accepts that reaching the quarters is about our level and anything beyond that is punching above our weight.

Yeah to be fair England have some great players and they will always have a slight chance but it just seems every tournament the press whip it all up into a frenzy so that it sounds like they will win all the time lol! If the build-up was a bit lower-key, then they may actually get to the Quarters/Semi's more regularly which is still a good result.
