My goal is to turn £10 into £100 by the end of the month. to do this i will only be playing NL4 and the odd dym. To do this it works out at average of £4.70 profit per day. I know ill need to run good for the first couple to get a little breathing room to cope with the inevitable coolers and bad beats.
However at just over 1 buy in per day profit it is an achieveable target.
finnishing off for now. Got a live game at 7.30 so tea time then away really. Will be playing tonight when i get back but since tht is likley after midnight im going to count any profit/loss for tomorrow.
So closing Balance for today: £13.85
Falling slightly below target but going onto night-time grinds for the rest of the month as of tomorrow. Will get someplay in tonight but as i will be pretty tired will likley not get as much in as i would like. Little disappointed as without maybe 2 or 3 hands im well above target. However thats the way the cookie shall crumble. Good news is i didnt tilt once, so theres a positive in every negative.
i know its money avaliable dictated but with £10 starting br, it doesnt leave you much scope to start with mate. gl,hope it goes well phil Posted by pod1
Yea definetly mate. Im more comfortable over 4 tables but thats just not possible. So i started with 1 table till i got to £12 then will have 2 running till i reach a minimum of £24. I may put this up at a later date, that will allow me to then 3 table. 4 tables being intoduced once i have around £40-£50 allowing me enough buy backs for bad beats or coolers etc.
Will be taking this far more disiplined and its the first time ive set an end goal for any BR challenge ive done.
In Response to Re: New BR challenge : just play ffs GRRRRRRR Posted by scotty77
this is the exact reason im switching to night time grinding mate. Less distractions, means more time to play, meaning more volue. Hopefully means more ££££££'s

GL with this Don!!
Remember Einsteins 'Theory of Profitability'
Less Distractions = More Profit [LeD MoP] !! Ya got me ! lol
I did used to nighttime grind on a different site as was up like 15BIs in a week. Then had one terribad session. Wass just coolers should have stopped at 2BIs but ended up blowing 10. I havent played much at night since. But i had a set routine which worked.
11PM - 1.30/2AM then an hour break. Then right throo till 6/7AM depending on how i was running. Will be going back to this routine as this hour break was enough time to feed myself for the night as long as i ate before i started.
And with telle as boring at this time i cant complain TV too good, and the xbox is worthless past 1 unless you want to be playing on annoying american connections. So win win win.
Lost money so far to day. But seriously how the deuce you meant to beat this.

that now means im well below target and actually need to nearly double my BR in a day to get back onto target. Not going to be easy expessially when your Kings can't beat 94 pre. People are open shoving consistantly, and slow playing Aces. Really not my day. Seriously feeling quite tilted right now. Think i may break for tea.
Cant even beat dyms either. Seriously not a good day. 2/4 so losses aint too bad but was chip leader in the last one. Doubled shorty who limped 3BB with KT i shove 77 they call hit a K. :@ then shove jacks. Get slowroll called by Kings. Peeves me off.
BR: £10.32
Thought this was possible, but these early stages really are a grind. Might just play NL4 till around 12AM then a mix of NL4 and dyms, if im lucky will get a load of drunker versions of dohhhh and wont need to play a hand. I though by sticking to £4.70 per day target would be simple. Clearly i need to get up to 10BIs and fast.
Got back on track. And for the first time im over 4BIs. Really didnt feel like i was playing well. It was mostly coolers getting me paid. The biggest issue was i flatted on the river after rivering a flush. I wasnt value hunting like normal. Almost as if i was playing scared money, and a comment i stated to Dohhhh before emphies this. "Im not 3betting AQ because 2;s shoved on my 3bet last night. I dont have the roll to flip yet"
I think that comment says everything, its a mammoth challenege and the early stages never sunk in until i started. I think the nitty poker will work at getting me out of trouble but may take longer than i would like. Meaning the last few days will bea rush.
4 big winning hands. Wont post em all, but heres a couple

I think in particular the A4 hand symbolizes that i wasnt playing well.
Bankroll: £16.03
New leash of life was injected to me by the help of a little run good. Gotta keep protecting the roll and start to open up a little more each time i earn a new buy in. With every pot im taking down i gain confidence. The amount im learning by doing this is unreal. Maybe everything will start to sink in. Poker isnt always about odds and percentages there is soo much more to it.
its been a brutal night of situations i just cant quite grasp. I was down to 7p at one point (4.45 invested in dyms however) i won both dyms but then was back down to 3.87. Dyms wherent going going great and in the end i decided stuff it. 100% BR on NL4. Not ideal but id decided to play as tight as i could and after an hour or relitive breaking even patience was rewarded with 2 big pots.
(i suspect i wont be forgiven for showing these)

Been suck a yo yo night. There was one point where i thought it was over. However the grit and determination pulled through. Ive realised i cant treat this as earning a minimum of £4.70 per day yet. But every profit will be good. Im finding it hard as it is to get anything going and the lack of buy ins really is effecting my game. However its improving the self disipline majorly. Although still bluffing dohhh when he has the nuts isnt clever, but who doesnt bluff dohhhhh.
Hopefully i can get a little run good in tomorrows session and start to get this up, i really need to get back onto 2 tables and more eventually. I think this will become a dash for the line at the end but i need to start gaining some more buy ins now!
Donald, you will continue to struggle with such a small roll m8 as you are basically playing with scared money which will affect your game. I would suggest, and await the heavy criticism from the regs, that you try playing a couple of sessions with a starting stack of 40bb. This will enable you to play with a little more freedom and you will be less afraid of the coolers/bad beats. By doing this of course it will be argued that you could be missing out on value by not having the max. in front of you but as you only have 3 BI you are on very thin ice m8.
pomfrittes has hit the nail on the head there, i thought u busted last night after dohhh stacked u?
also game selection is key for a small role mate last night you was in the most aggressive nl4 game ever! which isnt good and on the 10 seater you folded kings when we were doing a flip. you should have just got them in and the other hand because you didnt want take part didnt mean you should fold. your bankroll comes first mate dont matter if people get annoyed if it can boost your bankroll
thats my 2 pennies worth, if i were you i would get on DYM also dont play nl4 with solid(or better then nl4 players) untill you have at least 20 buy ins then your not playing with scared money
shouldn't have played in a forum cash game. why sit at a table which has a better standard than all the other nl4 tables.
i find it confusing. sometimes i get the impression that you play poker for money, then i get the impression you play for fun, then it looks like its some kind of ego thing.
while you are so shallow rolled your only goal should be on the money.
what do you want from poker? do you want a nice side income or do you just want fun?
Can i just say blame Dohhhhh for that forum game thing, he said set on up i said no. About 20 minutes later id set one up.
young gun, another point about folding those kings. Theres already 3 players all in. I know theirs at least 2 going in behind me (actually turned out to be 3) im no longer any sort of favorite to win the hand.

true but ur gettin gd equity for the money u wud be puttin in
if you're not willing to get it in why sit in this game and not a normal nl4 game?

i wasnt comfortable playing there tbh. I left shortly after.
What a night. What a session. What an we everything. From being stacked 3 or 4 times. and still showing a comfortable profit i cant complain. Started of on cash which didnt go well actually think it was my own frustration that done it in the end. Sop i moved to HU. Think i won them all bar one. Back to cash. Lost 2 BIs and suddenly i was peeved off. Went to DYMs, and put my £6 of a £9 roll down over 3. (3.30, 2.25 and 1.15) and despite having 1BB in one, and not playing anything bar KK, QQ and AK i cashed in all 3. So back i went to cash. And early profit was done by over pair v set. However what a session it was to turn out to be. I'm lost for words. And may i say some of the best poker TAG poker ive ever played. Not bad from a player whos traditionally got a wide range.
Some winning hands.

really did have warning lights flashing at me here but when i called my stack of i felt i had already commited too much to the hand to fold. If i re-raise less i can get away.
There are other big losing hands, however they all are pretty basic errors (stacking off TPGK because ur notes say so when the play clearly stinks) ive spotted myself so wont post em up.
There are two other hands both posted in the clinic so wont re-post em here.

I think i've learnt alot tonight. volume certainly does pay off. Scotty and Dohhh are two pretty clever guys and i fully recommend any one taking their advice. Its taken a while for it to sink into me, tonight was the first night ive not had a break. Right from the Mastercash game thing i failed at till now, bar 10 mins when i came off the HU to go onto NL4 ive not had a break. That 10 mins was only to take my mind away from my heads up game and back to my cash game. Despite not having a break and saying i would play right through to 6AM im stuggling to keep my eyes open now. Therefore i think it is best to stop playing 2 hours earlier than planned, although i did play through my break thats still and hour lost. Im disappointed for that be re-ajusting to this routine will take a few days and for a guy whos known not to sleep well i do value these times. However i did get lucky in a few situations, the QQ v QQ for example should always be a split, and in fairness i thought i was beat hense turning my hand into a bluff. Ive made a number of simple school boy errors in amougst all this pretty good poker aswell however that even i can't justify, although my notes stated they where likley to do the play with worse, its NL4 for christ sake.
One good thing with that though is i dont think i played like i was scared of losing tonight. I played every hand as if i was going to win something huge. I took pride in taking down a pot weather at showdown or not. I was please just to be playing again. And i think the passion that i was lacking that i felt played tournaments is now starting to show in cash. Its that passion that makes me want to play more and more. And reading Scottys comment from yesterday when he said he doesnt know if i played for money, fun or ego it got me thinking. Why am i playing poker? I started playing poker for fun and eventually i could beat my mates. This however created the will to have fun and win money. I read something the other day, "If your having fun playing poker, your playing it wrong" i don't know if that statement is true, but certainly it applies to me. Then came the Ego, ever since i could beat my mates i wanted to go out and beat the best. So Scotty in answer, you've stumped me, and im the one playing. In honesty it was a fun thing to start out with and then i won some money. And now alls i want to do is be profitable. By admitting this i think ive found yet another flaw in my game, i have no idea why i play.
I think that you can play poker for all the 3 reasons, but you need to get the bankroll situation sorted out first.
Part of being a poker player is being able to relax/cool off by spewing off/showing massive bluffs vs mates. However when I do that, and when others do that, we do it in a game where the stakes don't matter. You'll see a lot of the high stakes regs/mid stakes grinders do that by flpping for stacks at No Limit Omaha 2p/4p...but they can do that because they probably have 500BI rolls @ 200nl so losing 10BIs there means nothing.
I don't know about your financial situation/work committments, so I don't know what your endgame is. What I do know is that with hard work and the ability to grind, you can make very decent tax free money at nl20 or so. And you def put more work into your game than 90pc of the regs at that level.
So you should be focusing on building your roll. Don't play in tough games, don't play in forum games until you have that roll in place. Then you can spend a session or 2 just outplaying Dohhhh constantly by snapping his all in river bluff with Q high and being good
Once you get to around 150£ or so you'll find it a lot more smoother. Until then its either being on a big ginrd or depositing to top your roll up.
I don't agree that you turned your hand into a bluff against MP33. He can call you with worse, and you have an overpair with a strong re-draw. If you are thinking you can get him off a flush/2p or bigger overpair then thats a big flaw in your thinking!!
I like your bet, but for value, not as a bluff!!
Also bet the flop multi way with the set of 7's. 5 handed to the flop, 3 checks in front of you, 1 player behind, and an ace on the board, you gotta bet. I know the pre flop raiser is still to act behind you, but he only min raised the button, and he will check behind alot. I'd just bet myself here.
Other than that, nice 1. Keep the momentum going now. And stay away from that spt sat u were gonna play ffs. That £25 you were thinking about depositing to play it would be much more useful in ur BR!
Don't tilt when Celtic win the league this afternoon.

cheers scotty. My financial situation is a yo yo But i would say its not particularly great. This is partly because i dont have a job at the moment. Still helping out with the league but i gave that up because the money wasnt even covering the expenses of the job. I think thats been a big factor in my BR.
I apprechate the comment youve made here. And you have some pretty awesome advice.
Are you playing the freeroll MTTs Don? Worth considering as a decent bink could up your BR by a significant percentage, they're pretty easy to cash in, and also lets you blow off some steam without leaking cash.

nah mate. freerolls tilt me rather badly for some reason. I may win one but ill just tilt it off with extra
in a day where i just couldnt get anything to work out, i felt i played badly, ran badly and all in all let frustration be my boss. Early on when i first started 3PM yesterday i doubled early over multiple pot. Stacking on another table. Was £1 down. Lost a dym. Done a HU. Then went back to cash. Again just cudnt get anything going couldnt find payments for big hands. Not losing the min for losing hands. Was just one of those days.
Biggest winning pots.

I think again positives to be taken from today. I ran bad, didnt play well and despite all of this kept the loss to £2. The JJ hand ive not featured here as it wasnt a huge loss (32p) where i had 2 limpers and a raised 8xBB from BB, get a caller and think woohoo maybe i might get value. AKQ flop. nh sir. That sort of somes my day up in one hand. Breif moments of hope but in reality i really wasnt earning them. The whole patience game was against me. Hopefully tomorrow i might get a little run of cards.
Comments
My goal is to turn £10 into £100 by the end of the month. to do this i will only be playing NL4 and the odd dym. To do this it works out at average of £4.70 profit per day. I know ill need to run good for the first couple to get a little breathing room to cope with the inevitable coolers and bad beats.
However at just over 1 buy in per day profit it is an achieveable target.
Will be taking this far more disiplined and its the first time ive set an end goal for any BR challenge ive done.
Total Balance: £10.92
that now means im well below target and actually need to nearly double my BR in a day to get back onto target. Not going to be easy expessially when your Kings can't beat 94 pre. People are open shoving consistantly, and slow playing Aces. Really not my day. Seriously feeling quite tilted right now. Think i may break for tea.
I think that comment says everything, its a mammoth challenege and the early stages never sunk in until i started. I think the nitty poker will work at getting me out of trouble but may take longer than i would like. Meaning the last few days will bea rush.
4 big winning hands. Wont post em all, but heres a couple
I think this will become a dash for the line at the end but i need to start gaining some more buy ins now!
also game selection is key for a small role mate last night you was in the most aggressive nl4 game ever! which isnt good and on the 10 seater you folded kings when we were doing a flip. you should have just got them in and the other hand because you didnt want take part didnt mean you should fold. your bankroll comes first mate dont matter if people get annoyed if it can boost your bankroll
thats my 2 pennies worth, if i were you i would get on DYM also dont play nl4 with solid(or better then nl4 players) untill you have at least 20 buy ins then your not playing with scared money
i find it confusing. sometimes i get the impression that you play poker for money, then i get the impression you play for fun, then it looks like its some kind of ego thing.
while you are so shallow rolled your only goal should be on the money.
what do you want from poker? do you want a nice side income or do you just want fun?
the 40bb idea isn't that bad actually FWIW.
young gun, another point about folding those kings. Theres already 3 players all in. I know theirs at least 2 going in behind me (actually turned out to be 3) im no longer any sort of favorite to win the hand.
Some winning hands.
