i agree toa point jj, but and its a big but, is where the players come from ie cah sngs . i might be wrong but we have had some top cash players on here , sparce springs to mind, pretty much untouchable on the cash tables, but didnt convert his game over to mtt. surley seasoned mtt players will still outdo a top cash player in there own format.
not many can cross over at the top ,but he does. if you scored people out of 100 in mtt disapline and 100 outta cash and add them together he i think would be at my top.

+1 to this as well.
flexibility and common sense ftw.
Stake sparce for a big cash game. UK cash game? whatever....
The more options the better. Thats what will make the whole thing more appealling to a wider client base.
Offering a prize that appeals to 10% (optimistic estimate) of the clients is rubbish.
agree,i think the likes of peg both lols etc would feel much more comfortable repping sky in a big cash game than an mtt. you dont put steven gerrard in goal do you!!!

In Response to Re: Winning a place onto TSP : I've been watching this thread since it started now but haven't posted yet... I agree with some statements and disagree with others but I think the above sums up people's opinions... I said, give him a place on TSP , I didn't mention anything about a £1000 buy-in event and the reply was, well he can buy-in himself now. Surely there should be more to TSP than 1 buy-in, even if it's bragging rights. I'm by no means having a go at Poker_Fail but this seems to be the general concensus among the community... Would no-one even be the slightest bit proud to be in it? Not that I'm of a high enough standard but I'd love to Don the TSP hoody and get out there playing some poker, could wear it down to the casino in Liverpool (bit of free advertising) Posted by Lambert180
Just to clarify, what I said was just a little joke. He deserves all the prizes he gets.

I did say but I didn't mean it in any way as an attack on you, I just thought it was funny that when I mention joining TSP the first/only thing you/people think of is £1000 buy-in. Sure it's a big deal, but It'd mean alot more than that to me.

Oh ok, I agree it would be pretty cool to be on the TSP, but for me, you're right the main allure is the chance of playin in a tournament of that caliber.

Thier are flaws with how the qualification and the one off MTT decides who gets into the team in my opinion but i'll leave that alone as thats not the thread was started for.
Regarding what people get out of the team i think it's 100% clear cut you get what you decide to put in. Eventually if sky do retain people long term like scotty i don't think it will be a shock that it's the players that rake enugh to cover i would say £750 + a month as i think GUKPTs are every two months ? that pays for the buy-in.
Scotty has how ever put in alot of effort with the community since he joined the team to help retain his status on top of his final table which in my opinion was enough anyway. No dis-respect to others who joined with him and before him but i can't recall they have all that much baring robbierott who unfortunatly i think didn't rake enough to justify sky keeping him on.
Dan / James / Reds / Wayne aka the origional four don't perhaps participate in the forum very much because you have to appreciate their time on this site is to purely make money and rake. People tend to forget poker is their job and time is money ! as dan stated posting on a froum while 4-10 tabling can seriously dent thier pockets when you consider they sit with £200 a pop x thier tables. People that attend the Sky Poker Tours however will know these guys will happily talk to anyone who comes up to them and wants to know anything or just chat .
Waffling over for now but a small "jibe" with people saying smaller bankrolled players don't get a chance - This is a game of skill and luck ! if your good enough sure it may take month's or years but you will climb the stakes and be where those bullies are to. I'm fairly sure 99.9% of todays big players where once the small fish looking up just like i was, work for it and you will get it.
First thing is a big wd to Dylan, I missed it, but still cant believe it. Didnt think it was ever gonna happen !
The whole TSP thing is a bit confused I think. But we all maybe have different reasons for wanting to get into it. Some people may want the recognition of their peers and really treasure the blue hoodie. Others like me see it more as a way of getting a seat in a big event (and it would be a one off for me as I would never generate the rake to stay in the team}
Having qualified for GUKPT Luton by other means, the chance of testing my game against some of the best players in the country meant a lot. And although I was not a TSP member, I still was representing Sky Poker, and was not treated any differently to them.
Obviously Sky need a core of the TSP team to be people with the game to succeed at these events, but they also need to give a cross section of players some chance of getting there too. And this should not exclude STT specialists or us donkament players. The current 3 league system gives everyone a chance and rewards people who play a lot on the site, but still requires them to win whichever discipline they specialise in. Its not perfect, but it works.
Yes it is theoretically possible for someone to qualify for the final by Russian Roulette, but the rake would be horrendous. And in the quarterly final there are probably a few players who would be wasting their time playing a big live event. But there will also be at least 30 players who would deserve and welcome the opportunity to play a GUKPT.
But maybe there is a better way than a one off final to make sure the cream rises to the top, or would that overcomplicate it ?
I agree that there are some excellent players in the DTD league (I played twice this month and havent cashed once !} But most of the regular better players there have developed their game (and bankroll) enough to qualify through the MTT league, if they have the desire to do so.

Some excellent well thought out points. I think everyone appreciates the way in which Ryan, Redmond, Wayne and the rest of the team conduct themselves. Their ability and commitment was never in question. But they represent the site and most of the Sky members don't know what their role actually is or what they've achieved outside of SPT. Every site has to evolve and if you compare poker to other games/sports investment at grass roots level sets the foundations for a solid sustainable future. You only have to look at the sites that have failed because they didn't have the forsight to realise you have to keep your punters happy. Other sites give everyone the opportunity to win packages for Series events I cannot see why a request for the a very small number of the best performing DTD players to take part in the Sky Team Tournament is such a big ask. I also think that Sky are foolish not to have at least one Lady in the team I'm sure they make up at least 5% of the site and most other sports acknowlege the importance of being seen to promote equality. You only have to look at the contributions Vicky Coren and Liv Boree have made to see what a positive influence they create! This whole thread has not been meant as a dig at certain groups it has been to discuss ways the site could be improved. If anyone has been offended by my posts I apologise I simply meant to put my opinions across
hello from corsica. i am just about to go and lie by the pool, apparently it going to be 28 degrees today.
my thoughts are...
i dont think there should be a voting system for people to be invited to join TSP. This would exclude the thousands who dont participate on the forum and would skew the results towards popular players.
Although admiring the work that Chris (scouse_red) and his people do with the DTD awarding a place would not be a good and fair idea as it is solely a Monday night game.
The blue hoodies are five sizes smaller in real life and don't fit. I wore my skypoker badge to all sponsored events and even as a spectator on the final day at the GUKPT. I have the skypoker logo tattooed on my arm. (one bit of that paragraph is untrue.)
I think that the qualification rules are fine. I see that we all vote for what's in our own interest. Nevertheless, I hope that we all see that skewing the qualification as a result is advantageous for the few yet a handicap to the majority.
I am proud to be in Team Skypoker. I anticipate that my place will expire at the end of this month but I am trying everything I can do be in team next quarter. I am an average MTT player and could never accumulate sufficient points to finance a continuation like the top cash players.

That is why we are also proud to have you in Team Hitsquad!!
In Response to Re: Winning a place onto TSP : Hi mate! & is Vegas a yearly donkament too?? In any competitive enviroment, Business, Football, Poker, the cream will rise to the top, That is the law of the Jungle!! The Vegas & TSP tourneys,[NOT Donkaments], Have always had the cream reach the final stages, they may have some under-rated players make it or get close!! BUT IS THAT NOT THE DREAM!!!!!! We were all under-rated players once, some improve fast, some slow, some dont.......BUT dont tell me it is not the dream of EVERY player on here, to win a big live tourney like GUKPT/SPT or Final table WSOP, just some are ALOT further away than others!! The beauty of The FA Cup is Crawley drawing Man Utd, Europa league, Lil' Fulham getting to a final...... AND was not the Poker BOOM started[apparently], when 'hobby' player Moneymaker won the WSOP!! Everyone who wants to pay the entry should get the chance!! Fact is seems some do not take advantage of their TSP oppurtunity, SOME DO!! THAT IS A LIFE FACT, NOT POKER! A hungrier 'lesser' player may make more of it than a talented star!! who would have thought 6 years ago that Scotty Parker would be more in demand than David Bently!! GL!! [Football Analogies FTW!!!] Posted by HITMAN_RV
well if were doing football analogies....
the football equivalent of TSP team selection wouldnt be the FA Cup, it would be like gettin the 22 best players from the year....letting them play an end of season football match, and awarding 'Footballer of the Year' to the man of the match...which would be ludacris

did i say football match...i meant Coin-flipping contest
I'm glad TSP exists, I enjoy supporting the team. Long may it continue, it's great having somebody to root for in major live events. However actually becoming a member of TSP is of little or no interest to recreational low-stakes players like myself.
However, I think the poker league is now pretty much a wasted promotion, it only appeals to the small proportion of players on the site who are seriously chasing a place in TSP. For everybody else there is longer any incentive to win league points. When the leagus and the league stars freeroll offered cash prizes players like myself would play more to chase league points. Not any more, the league is now irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, I don't bother looking at it any more. Every poker player wants to win cash, not many would prefer to win a spell in TSP.
1) I think the TSP project is very good. As Tikay among others have said in the past, it needs tweaking as many things like this do after the first year. I think they desperately need to have the TSP page on the website kept up to date constantly. I know getting poker people for a photo shoot is a nightmare but the professional photo is nowhere near vital. Use the forum avatar, ask the player to email in a photo. With the page so out of date you never get a feel of who is on the team other than the first four. Would also like all members of TSP available in the 'find a player' option on a list.
2) Agree with all above who said being a member of TSP is what you make of it.
I also think that Sky are foolish not to have at least one Lady in the team I'm sure they make up at least 5% of the site and most other sports acknowlege the importance of being seen to promote equality. Posted by DUNMIDOSH
They are promoting equality, anyone can be in the team if the earn it. Simply giving a place to a woman is not equality at all.

Couldn't agree more. There are no men or women at a poker table, just poker players !
